Hey all. Newbie on board...

After many years, I have finally dug out my old Monster beetle from the loft, with the intention of restoring it back to its original state for my son (and me :D ) to enjoy.

Ive managed to locate most of the smaller body parts like the number plate light housing, spot lights, rear lights etc...

Parts so far that i require to replace are: wiper arms, window, front lights, decals.

It was MB red when my dad first built her for me, however for some reason throughout the 90's i wrecked it by coating her in luminous yellow, pink, and matt black  .

Because of this i have firstly paid attention to the shell. i got myself some Mr muscle and started to strip it back. Found that it is white plastic.

yet to charge up the battery and test her. I do remember having trouble with it though? i'll keep you posted.

Welcome to TamiyaClub!

Nice to see you restoring your old beetle to it's former glory and giving it a new lease on life!

You are probably having gearbox problem's as the diff spread's and the bevel gears slip causing drive issues?

If so you will be happy to know there's a fix for it!

Theres' quite a few Monster beetle fanatics on here and no doubt they will endevour to help you the best they can.

Enjoy your stay!

Gotta get me some Mr Muscle for my SS shell! Looking good so far 'cal. You can pick up the wipers, nose, lens/lights and VW symbol on ebay cheap enough.

Keep us updated mate, glad to see another MB being brougbt back from the dead!

Thanks for the welcome all!

Charged up the battery and tested the car. Got no response from the front end. So opened her up and evently found that part E9 of page 5 from the manual appears to be missing. Must of took a good knock i suppose all them years ago. My description of this would be, the thick plastic circlip type thingy holding together the splined steering servo piece to the track rod coupling? <_<

Can anyone please assist in pointing me in the right direction to locate one? very important to get this project rolling. I'd rather not make one.

Ive just won some window glass off flea bay today to.

cheers.

The E parts tree is quite hard to find and expensive to buy because of the body mounts on it.

Your other option is to use B7 off the B parts tree which was also available on the Subaru Brat and because it has been re-released, parts are plentiful.

The blackfoot with the same chassis uses this instead of E9. B7 works with the K5 and J7 or J10 you have on your beetle.

I would guess there is a tension difference between E9 and B7 because the bettle used CVA shocks and pin spike tyres, but it will work fine.

You also have the option of using #51000 Tamiya Hi Torque Servo Saver,

or a Kimbrough Servo Saver which a few guys on here use.

Yeah that's the one. It also has the bearing sleeves on it for the gearbox if you decide to rebuild it at a later date.

Man some of you guys have all the luck with MM, I tried it and it didn't even touch the paint :o

Ive put a lot of work in with wet 'n' dry though.

Ive just purchased the 51000 tamiya servo saver kit, thought it looked stronger. It was cheaper as well B)

In the meantime i'll just keep on rubbing.

Update on the resto. Got the glass through the post that was smashed, super glued the offside corner of the front screen. You will never see the damage as its hidden by the shells pillar.

I used a spare part i had to act as an aerial holder. Also used the inner of a trigger spray bottle for the aerial tube. Works perfect.

I fixed the spotlights to the nose cone using some mecano strips, securing them into the back of the headlight bowls. All good peeps.

Body is flat and ready for primer now also. I was thinking about either painting her in the original red or maybe a 70's orange!

what do you think?
