I decided today is the day that I build a new Monster Beetle :)

The wheels are the only "used" part in this build but they are in A1 condition and everything else is brand new (the shocks were purchased/made a month or so ago). A couple of changes from the original kit; an RS Sport Tuned motor and a standard Tamiya ESC, but apart from that she'll be original all the way.

Let's see how much I can do today, updated pics will follow as I go.

Will I run it?

No ;)

It was a fun way to spend my Sunday, for sure :)

I'll add some pics this evening, but I managed to get the whole chassis completed. She looks fantastic! Not a scratch on her, although very hard to tell it apart from my other shelfer really. That may not be so surprising when I think of all of the new parts that went on my first shelfer.

I resisted the urge to make some mods as I went (I really wanted to put a bolt/nut through the rear suspension arm mounting hole and then do the same to the body mounting posts) and I even thought about stopping and adding an MSC/second servo in place of the ESC. In the end I decided that modern electrics are fine as I am building it in 2009, not 1986. I only have the shell left to do now but I'll be taking my time on that one - it's got to beeee-eeee-eeeee, peeeeeerfect..... yeah! ;)

For those interested, when all is said and done (a trade here, sale of some spares there...) I think I managed to do the whole project for less than £300 (including paint/esc etc). I need to finish my maths later though but it definitely cost me much less than buying a NIB (which I wouldn't have had the heart to build....).

I'll also update my showroom with pics of the custom one later this evening too - it's looking good. I am going to have to think about selling one of these soon though, 4 box-art's and a custom build are probably a little too much. Everyone on flea-bay seems to be breaking theirs up to sell it at the moment though, maybe I'll wait until the new year some time. I could always trade for something else I guess.

Thats gonna be a beautiful MB. Now when its done, put it on the shelf! If you have to drive one, buy a used one. :D

No need, I have another three sitting here

My name is Pete and I am a Beetleholic.

I booked Friday off today, just need to get some primer on tomorrow and then I'll have a day to paint at my leisure. I'll update with some pics as and when. Cheers for the comments so far but making a nice MB is easy when the bits are new ;) The custom project is fast becoming a thing of beauty too, I should update the showroom...
