Well my plan to buy a XB Lunchbox went out the window as there all out of stock so it looks as if im going to be building and painting a kit before xmas.

Has anyone got any tips on the best Yellow to go for from Halfords ? I used Halfords stuff on my MB and it was great.

Thanks

Ian

I've never keyed a brand new styrene shell, if it's going to spend most of its time on a shelf and I haven't filled anything, (i.e the shell is no longer one continuous white or black colour) I will just sand the mold lines out, but If I'm bashing it (i.e my lunchbox) then just wash the new shell with soapy water, hose off, let dry, paint, lacquer, wait for paint to harden, rub it with rubbing compound, polish, wax. The white syrene shells are bright enough to bring out the correct shade of most yellows.

But I've never used Halfords

Will I need white primer with this or will keying the body be sufficient?

If this Lunchbox is going to be run I wouldn't spend too long worrying about the perfect paint finish. Just wash the shell well with warm soapy water, rinse off with fresh and make sure it's thoroughly dry before you paint it. Just spray the colour directly on the shell - fit the stickers - then go outside and enjoy running it. Within one batteries worth of use you'll probably have scraped the paint off in places already but you'll have a big smile on your face from doing it and be glad you didn't waste time and money on the perfect paint finish.

Tamiya don't key the factory finished Lunchbox before painting it.

In case you want to, you can buy a factory finished Lunchbox body, but they aren't cheap.

Does Halfords exist in New Zealand?

Paul.

I dont think we do Paul, hence why I mentioned I'd never used it. Although we do get Humbrol/Testors/Pactra etc. Plus we dont have any problems getting the Tamiya range like the UK do, so I use that 99% of the time.

Haha he will love it Ian :o

Pics as promised - sorry for the bad quality but there off my phone.

Was planning on putting the stickers on tonight but found I haven't got any scissors for the stickers :)

I've got to say I *******in love this thing, looks boss and a quick run round my flat makes me thing I might buy myself one as a nice runner ;)

I have a whole can of Signal Yellow left and it seems a shame to waste it :D

Looks like a great colour, just an idea Parma PSE do a lexan LunchBox bodyshell It might make sense to get this for your nephew as it will take the abuse a bit better :)

Looking great so far ian, the only thing you might break with the Lunchbox is the plastic body mounts whenever it has a few too many roll overs. Either buy a few spare ones or try and get some made out of metal, i got some off a guy on ebay, don't know if he still has any for sale.
