Hi there,

Just built a new M03 but the drive shafts /stub axles seem to have lots of play is this normal? about 1mm of float..Is it best to space shim them up and which side between the bearing and hex drive or go for the inside hub/bearing? also is it ok to use the stock pinion or is it better to get a robinson racing one

I used a washer on the inside of the hub on mine to take up this slop, 5mm centre hole.

I wouldn't use the Tamiya alloy AV 0.6mm pinion at all. Once the kit one wears (happens quickly) it will cut into the spur and you will need to replace both pinion and spur. I recommend going for a Robinson Racing or RW Racing steel pinion straight away and get much longer life from the gearbox.

Tamiya make steel pinions in 0.5mm and 0.4mm sizes. But not in the more common 0.6mm size.

48dp is the common US size and will not fit a M03 (SAE vs metric). 0.6mm module on M03.

I refuse to ever use Atomic again on ebay after his last shipping jokes (after I'd paid even). His competitor can ship for reasonable postage so why can't he...

You won't find Robinson Racing pinions in the UK as they aren't imported. Any decent hobby shop will stock RW Racing pinions.

Was waiting for somebody to post a link, Cheers Terry!

I'm not really up to play with modules and pitches, but I know I would like to get steel pinions for a few of my cars.

How do you know what module or pitch a pinion is in a specific car/chassis?

Yeah My_Atomic on feepay are ridiculous - AFTER you pay for your order they send you ANOTHER invoice for more shipping charges! When I asked why they said they had calculated original shipping costs wrong! What a fraud. Stay away from them!

modelsport seem to have a nice selection of the RW .6 pinions in stock think i will a couple while they have them in stock' also order from tower hobbies RR pinions at £2.00 each grabbed a dozen diff ones

Most Tamiyas since the AVante use "AV" pinions = 0.6module metric.

TRF & higher end cars use finer 0,4mod.

DF03 went 0,5mod just to be annoying.

Cheers Willy! Would like to get some steel pinions for my clod/bully and DT02, so AV it is :)

The DT02 is 0.8module. I've not seen these in steel for sale anywhere. 32dp is so close to 0.8mod it's hard to measure the difference so steel 32dp are a sound replacement for alloy 0.8mod.

RRP0170 for 17T and RRP0190 for 19T 32dp steel pinions. Again searching for the part number will bring up results. I bought 3x 17T ones 3 weeks ago from eBay (RCboyz). If you tick the 'Include title and description' option it will find more than My_Atomic.

The Traxxas 3947 (17T) and Traxxas 3949 (19T) 32dp pinion will also work for steel replacement for 0.8mod. I'm using Traxxas E-Maxx steel pinions on my Fox.

nice one never ticked that "option box" before and it has brought up 3 sellers now instead of one for the same thing' I'm glad Rcboyz sell these pinions as i point blank refuse to buy of my_atomic although tower hobbies and stormer hobbies stock them and there good to post to the uk. I think tower was 8 dollars to send me 12 pinions which is very good
