Hello all,

Been a while since I was last on here!

I have a question for you all!! A friend of mine has found a Sand Scorcher in his loft which is 30+ years old still in its original box untouched! and also he has a spare un-touched shell which is also 30+ years old. He tells me that he also has a load of spares. He was asking me what it is worth so I told him I would ask the TC community. How much are these worth and what could he sell it for?

Cheers

Tell your mate to look on ebay, where he'll be in for a very pleasant surprise!

<_< What is that a question? Don't make the mistake I made once. Just say, "man that thing is so old and they are doing better cars now, worth nothing. I'll give you a 100 bucks and rid you of it" That would be me. 30 years unbuild with spares deserves that fate.

My opinion, so shoot me for it.

Cheers

I'm surprised at that price with the upcoming re-release of the Sand Scorcher

I am a little surprised at this comment :-) You have been around for ages and have seen re issues come and go, prices go up and down. With the exception of the increase in availability (temporary, due to unnecessary panic and kits being dumped on eBay as well as the economic climate) the price of good NIB Scorchers won't stay down for long and might even increase if recent sales of mine have been anything to go by (I just sold a NIB for £4500, black bumper, true mint condition).

The way I see it is this, now we know that the re issue isn't the same. It will satisfy everyone who had no intention of ever buying (or possibly couldn't afford) a NIB Scorcher from the original era. There is now a clear distinction between the original and the new one. People are already finding out that the Buggy Champ shares few metal parts with the original and that the ballraces are a different size, the shocks leak etc etc. An original will still be an original (even if the shocks do leak!).

In fact NOW is perhaps the time to buy one whilst the prices are lower because of the supply and relative lack of demand. Why? Well, the cat is out of the bag regarding the re issue and it has a different body and recast metal parts. The number of people with interest in this model has now been massively increased and therefore I suspect the number of those wanting to buy an original.

I saw this with the Hotshot and certain other re issues, although I have to say I wasn't following it thoroughly, as market prices and ups and downs have never really interested or bothered me, I just wanted my models :-)

Hotshot/Boomerang/Frog/Hornet/GH re-re shares a lot with their originals, would be hard for novice to differentiate imho.

And i don't think Frog NIB kit prices have recovered to what they were before.

Original Hotshot NIBs? i'd hate to need to sell one next 2-5yrs

Wild Willy 2 was a tribute... WW1 NIBs didn't take much of a dip imho, back to where they were.

It is true that the differences between some re issues and others is more profound. I reckon the Scorcher is actually very different. Most of the cast metal parts are either slightly different or completely different. The mail body is different, as are the mirrors and some of the other details. A full description we will have to wait for however, although decals (phew, good news for you, Willy) will also be profoundly different.

I sold a Hotshot two months ago for £500. That is about $800. It was in shrink wrap and very good condition. 5 years ago, well before the Hotshot re issue was even considered, I bought 2 Hotshot kits (admittedly in worse condition) for $900. These are the only details I can go on, as they are my own (scant) records.

When I got my buggy champ I knew the SS was on the horizon. I'm surprised that the prices stayed at this level considering how close the re-issue is to the original.
