Hi Guys,

Since I was 13 I have always wanted a Tamiya RC CAR, I had all the magazines. However, my parents didn't see it that way.

12 years later, I love cars and have been looking on and off for 6months for a 911 GT2 Taisan. Is it me or are these going up in price all the time? Over the weekend I bought one which is in reasonable condition for a very good price. I have searched this forum and seen a guy who started to restore his one. Which is a good guide for what I want to do.

Aim: Completely refurb shell and paint in one colour

Q1) - Taking the decals off - Been told to use brake oil, hot soapy water is this the best way?

Q2) - Get out the sratches - Use wet and dry paper (very fine), primer twice and then spray top coat twice, is this the best way? I'm going to mask the windows from the out side. What is the best primer/spray to use - Halfords or Tamiya?

Q3) - Technical question, see below link of the electronic parts. How can I test that these parts are working? I don't have any of the radio gear yet. I have noticed that spares for this car are hard to get and really expensive.

Q4) - I have a list of items to buy is this right to get it working: battery pack, esc, trasmitter, reciever, would I have to change the current servo as well?

A have a question to ask you, if you don't mind

But aren't those front knuckles from TA02? I mean, the TA02SW was just an ordinary TA02 with red TA01 knuckles, bearings, and axles up front. I'm quite puzzled seeing a TA02SW with blue TA02 knuckles :S Is the front as wide as the rear end?

EDIT: Forgot to tell ya that you've bought a legendary car IMO. I've driven one of those with very worn tires, but still it stood glued to the ground!

Hi Floppydisk, When I'm home I will have a look at this, I bought it with the box and instructions. Hope I have not been conned, I know the TA02SW, was the only chassis with a wide back, is this right? I haven't had much time to look at the chassis, is the number printed some where? Thanks Jit

no no no, the TA02W had the red knuckles on the front and wider dogbones/steering arms to widen the FRONT track, the TA02SW didnt, it had normal width track on the front (albeit +2 offset wheels). so yes taisan has blue front knuckles. also, both the TA02SW and the TA02W had normal width rear end, the wide track was made by the gangster offset 32mm rear wheels.

and OP, why are you repainting the shell on the outside???????

You know I feel like a child, I have spent all day at work looking at images of Taisans. This forum is toooooo good. I'm a massive fan of 993 911's my uncle used to have one. So I really want to take all the decals off and repaint. It has quiet a few sratches and scuffs.

Do you think this would make it worse if not done well? The whole car needs a really good clean.

Hi & welcome. You've picked a great car as your first project!! You could maybe get a new body & keep this one for a runner although new bodys for these are expensive. Worth it though on a car like this IMO. Normally you would paint the clear lexan shells on the inside & the hard body shells on the outside. If there is too much damage to it you could use it as a runner as I said.

Sorry to sound stupid, is what type of shell is this? I'm sure it will be ok for the respray etc? The shells are over £110 from ebay Japan. I'm going to cheap my eye out on the bay. But I think these are in demand, they always sell for alot of money.
