I have been eyeing the Slash up for some time now as I wanted a decent / modern runner that I wasn't afraid to drive a bit wreckless with so popped into Modelsport in Otley to purchase one. I ended up buying a Proline Hardcore Shell to paint & customise to my own taste. Now this shell will be painted with my leftover waterbased paints from work which work a treat, but I'm after something to "seal" the paint in there as with the lexan shells I have painted before the paint can be scratched off if you try hard enough! Is there a product out there that I can use to effect this???

Sometimes the paint sticks better if you scuff up the inside of the shell with Scotchbrite or steel wool before you paint. The scratches don't show after it's painted. Just be careful not to scuff the windows too...

no idea what paint he's using, probably not even suited for polycarbonate

with Fascolor in winter i have to warm the shell to make it stick better, once painted its not gunna scuff off too easily

Nope, too brittle. The paint will crack when the body flexes. PS is Tamiya's line of paint for lexan.

I've also used Rust-Oleum Plastic formula spray paint and Liquitex Artist's Acrylic (brushed on) successfully.

Thanks for your help, I keyed the plastic before painting with Scotchbrite which helped the paint stick. I have used a textured aerosol paint normally used for plastic molded bumper repairs & this seems to have worked okay. Its flexible enough to bend with the plastic & strong enough not to scratch off if I try to scratch it! I guess I will find out after I take my Traxxas 4x4 into the field (when it arrives that is!!!). Here are some pics of the shell so far, the painting is done & I've just started decalling:

I'd be curious to know how this holds up.

The only paint I've gotten to stick to a lexan shell is the stuff made for it. Everything else, including paints made for other types of plastic, ends up coming off.

Time will tell I suppose, the paint is the new waterbased car paint, very flexible as it has to be used on plastic molded bumpers on 1:1 automobiles. It will be run from Wednesday next week & as soon as any I detect any paint damage I will post pics on this thread.

As far as I've ever been able to tell, the flexibility is the key. After that, adhesion is just a matter of good surface prep.

Truck is looking good, Connor. I like those colors.
