Ok, I've been out of the game for a long time. I had an original rough rider 30 years ago bought with my paper route money (it was awsome) and just received my new racing buggy kit from tower hobbies. Why they changed the name makes no sense to me but that is another topic for discussion. They changed the stickers too....errrrrrr

My problem is...(the instructions of very limited especially about battery, esc, etc.)

1. the battery...what do I buy? Do they still sell the 1100 tamiya battery that the instructions mention. Tower hobbies says they dont stock it, it is discontinued or something. Whats that all about then??? the battery it wants is not the old hump back 7.2 6 cell.

2. the ESC...is this an elementary ESC, will it hold up to another type battery if i had to substitute the battery for something?

3. the receiver battery box...where is this supposed to go? does the ESC provide power or something?? back in the old day it fit right in the sealed box with the battery, reciever and two servos.

4. battery charger...i've seen some discussions on the different batteries and chargers here. please recommend anything that will work with this kit and stock rs540 motor.

also...if the stock setup here is not practical, please feel free to recommend a hop up scenario for the battery, motor, ESC. I'd be interested in learning about what I could possibly put in here and the performance gain that would come with it. (speed, duration, etc.)

Please make any detailed recommendations with links if it can help me. I'm confused and frustrated and could use some good help.

Thanks so much for your patience!

hi there the battery you require is a 7.2v hump pack, carson make a 2700mah nimh pack available at most shops inc tower, the tamiya teu-101bk esc with take the 7.2v battery, and the stock motor that comes with the kit, your esc powers you reciever using bec, no need for extra receiver batteries as before. Charger wise any delta peak charger should do the job, some do the job better than others but as long as its delta peak for nimh's your fine.

any more question please ask away.

TEU101bk does not have a built in BEC (probably the only ESC these days that doesn't). It only feeds main battery volts straight through. Rx must have the BEC

There are plenty of people running their receivers off of the 101BK on a 7.2v/7.4v pack without any problems. This depends more of the radio gear you have. I've been using Futaba R603FF receivers with 2S LiPo packs in my M-03 and M-04 without any problems.

Hello. Sorry, hope you dont mind my jumping in, but I have an issue with my new to me but second hand Monster Beetle that I seek advice on. Apart from a few new chassis parts needed as I expected, I have a problem with the Acoms AS7 steering Servo. It wont centre after I turn left, instead it goes almost fully right. I then flick it to the right further, using Tx, which then allows it centre. It always centres after a right turn and the Motor Servo is fine. Should I just renew the servos, or is there something else I should try first? Running with MSC which has seen better days, and a new Tamiya RS 540 Sport Tuned Motor and Acoms Rx/Tx.

If i was you i would swap the servos over and give it a test.If the steering problem is solved then it prooves that the servo is faulty.Be careful when testing it though as the faulty servo will now be operating the power to the motor.
