Well my other half has kindly offered to buy me my next car for my Birthday so the question is as the title, She could buy me a Hornet which I quite fancy as my Brother had one when we were kids and it would be nice to see the old girl again, however I kind of remember it not being that much fun for some reason? Or I could put a little money too and get a Boomerang...

So what would you guys do? :)

I'd go for the Boomerang personally. Nothing against the Hornet but I just like the Boomerang better. Funner build. [And yes, I know funner isn't a proper word in English, but I just like it. :) ]

Of course, I wouldn't be any kind of TC member if I didn't recommend you buy them both. :)

My vote goes to the boomerang although i have never owned 1 or drove 1 i love the look and will be buying a re re boomerang later this year.

I love the hornet and havnt driven 1 for about 20 years when i last owned 1 but from what i remember it was great fun to drive. The fact the boomerang is 4 wheel drive gives it the edge for me.

Wow thats a good deal, It looks like she may of already bought the Hornet from a local model shop as we were supposed to get it online tonight but I have just been told I am not allowed to buy anything until after my birthday :)

If she did she payed £120 eeek I am sure the Hornet will bring back happy memories :)

Any Tamiya bought for you by a girlfriend is the PERFECT model and just the one you were hoping for. Trust me on this. :)

The Hornet is a lot of fun to drive and a real Challenge to keep on its wheels, but that's half the fun of vintage 2wd buggies. You will love it.

the hornet is a great car, and a lot of fun, even in stock form.

make sure you build it with bearings though - a must.

the hornet was my first proper rc back in 1987.

try a slightly hotter motor in it too!

coincedentally, my wife bought me a hornet for my birthday 2 years ago.

the boomerang is technically a better car though. but as mentioned in this thread, get both :)

120GBP? That translates to about 195USD. Is that the going rate over there? If I can get that much I might start an export business.

They are £89 at Model sport, however local model shops seem more expensive. Ours wants £120 and has next to no Tamiya stock, Model Zone (there is one not too far away) want £99 for one.

I vote for the Boomerang too, lovely car, my first RC model ever :-)

Bearings all round are a must, an absolute must, plus follow the gearbox assembly instructions carefully!

I have a boomerang in bits in a box somewhere. Got it from a garage sale in that state for £10 last year.

Looks to be mostly complete, but no body or screws. thankfully the front and rear gearboxes are complete and screwed together

Reading this thread has made me want to put it back together.

Mine is definately an original release as the bottom is Gravel Rashed & wheels have fadded yella from age. the battery locking pin looks like its been put in and out 100 times, LOL

Most probably would have been striped for a clean and never reassembled. (what a waste)

I guess re-release parts will fit if theres anything missing.

Well Boothy, I hope you get your tamiya and enjoy it!

I would say the Boomerang isn't that much more sophisticated to be worth so much more than the Hornet. I personally love my Hornet (had it since I was a kid) and it runs great with a cheap (£3!) Ansmann 15T motor in it.

Don't overlook the LunchBox though. Can't be anything half as fun for the money in my opinion. My motto in these threads is "you'll never regret buying a LunchBox".

Well guys today is my birthday and my other half got me the Hornet :) I am really looking forward to getting it built up. I have just ordered a set of bearings for it ready for the build :)

So I now own my old Monster Beetle which will be finished as soon as the parts arrive, a Hornet re re in bits and nothing that works :D

I'll probably get a Lunchbox at some point but I guess its similar to the Beetle so I fancied a buggy, When I was a kid I had the Monster Beetle and a Thunder shot and my Brother had the Hornet so there is just the Thundershot left to get now :)

Famous last words. :)

Soon you will be sitting in a circle with a bunch of other people saying, "Hi - my name is Boothy and I have a Tamiya problem." Just you wait and see. :)
