I bought 'Team America - World Police' on DVD at the weekend. As I rolled around the floor in fits of laughter I noticed what I think is a Tamiya in the movie...!

For those of you that have seen the film (or have it on DVD) there's a part where terrorists and the Team America infiltrator are escaping central Cairo in a Jeep being chased by the Team America Humvee. The Jeep pulls over to let the Humvee by and then sets off again. The part where you see the Jeep setting off, I swear that the model is based on a front wheel drive M-chassis. The wheelbase looks right, the wheels are blatantly Mini Cooper wheels and when it sets off, the front wheel spin like crazy.

Anyone else seen Tamiyas in the movies...?

I think its a 1/6 scale nitro/petrol in Oceans 11.

Just watched BB2 today. I thought TXT but shocks are mounted vertically on the one in BB2

I remember watching a film when I was much younger in which a guy that never leaves the house robs a bank with a modified sand scorcher that held a gun. He even used it to do his shopping.

Can't remember the name of the film as it was so long ago, only thing I remeber is it was defo a SS in orange and white. Anyone else seen it?

I will have to watch that scene again. unless they made the puppets way smaller for that scene, theres no way a M chassis would be big enough

At the end of the '80 there is a tv series for children called "Punky Brustel" (or something like that) and, in an episode, Punky run with her own car in a race full of old tamiyas like FAV, Hornet, Frog...but i was too young to understand the beauty of that episode[:I]

Just did a quick bit of research and that show is called "Punky Brewster" Apparently the epiosode the race is in is called "Girls will be Boys". It has come up on these forums once before aswell.

I remember that Punky episode....

There was a Clint Eastwood movie where Jammin Jay Halsey of Associated fame drive a '67ish Corvette bodied car I believe through the streets of San Fran. I remember reading the article in RC Car Action way back when. I cannot remember the name of the movie though.

Nope, the whiny engine noise was dubbed on afterwards. Doesn't it reverse at one point? Try doing that with an IC one.

Movie was an Australian one called Malcolm. Good shots in there of the guy buying at least one boxed SS from the local toy shop..... lots of rc in that movie.

I remember a TV commercial from Nissan that had a 300zx driving around the living room. This was just around the same time that the TA01s first came out.

Hey Alex, you're right, the movie is an Australian movie called 'Malcolm'.

However, the NIB kit you remember is not a Sand Scorcher, but something else (not a Tamiya). For the life of me, I confess, I cannot quite identify it. I suspect it's a Marui.

The Sand Scorcher in the movie is seen being driven around, participating in bank heists and the like - Tamiyaclub members (those who haven't seen this movie) will be truly stunned by the great Sand Scorcher footage [:)]. Frankly, it's the best classic Tamiya moment in any movie I've ever seen. The Sand Scorcher virtually has a minor cameo.

I've already encoded the clips, do I hear any votes for them to be uploaded? (Or objections from the mods? We're talking a few mins worth of clips, nicked from DVD).

If the clips are wanted, please just bear with me for the moment as I currently have some things going on that leave me with little spare time (my father, a Tamiya fan also, is very sick with terminal cancer). I'm pretty strung out, and reading tamiyaclub each day is actually a nice way to relax.

But I'll endeavour to upload as soon as possible, if necessary.

cheers,

H.

Hi there,

Great to hear you have dug out the clip, I'd certainly be interested in seeing it, but we have a bit of a problem with posting it in our movie section.

We have a simple rule for that section which is, the movies you post must be created by yourself. The reason for this is we had people taking movies from other peoples sites etc and posting them here, which is not really on - we wouldn't want people doing it to us, so we think its only fair we don't do it to them.

Now I know this different being just a clip from a movie but the principle is the same. It would set a precident that others will argue with me until the end of time and mean that I can't quote my very simple rule at them any more as they will say this one went against that rule.

I know this clip in isolation is harmless enough but it opens the gates to people digitizing small clips from RC DVDs etc. and posting them. Yes people probably would find them interesting, but thats not the point. Its the headaches for me and the club it will cause that is more of a concern. I've already taken a decision to post copyrighted tamiya material but thats as far is it goes.

Hope you understand.

The best way forward is if someone can host it for you then just post a link to it here. No problems there.

Cheers

Chris

Yep, that's no problem at all Chris.

I'm a web developer by trade, so I fully understand, and suspected this would be the case anyway.

Perhaps when I get my own Tamiya site up and running one day, I'll be able to offer a few such goodies for download. This clip isn't all I have [:P]

cheers,

H.

I didn't see that on Mythbusters, but I'm pretty sure it was a belt drive r'c car I saw behind them whilst they were sitting at the drawing board, also on Mythbusters.
