Manta Ray + Pickup Body = Possible?

Hello

Has anyone here fitted any sort of truck body to the Manta Ray?

I was thinking of getting a Subaru Brat shell as they are readily available but the wheelbase on the Manta Ray is a couple of cm longer from what I can see.

The guy I am doing it up for is quite a fan of the Hilux and F150 bodies, but doesn't want to spend scary money on an original one. Would they fit the 'Ray and does anyone do a repro version that would be suitable for bashing?

He really wants a flat bed style one rather than anything like the Slash racing truck bodies.

I assume you would not be interested in stadium truck style bodies of this style: http://www.hpieurope.com/gallery2.php?catId=B10M〈=en - these have tha adavantage of being narrower, to allow more clearance for wheels or suspension, while providing the right wheelbase. I'm in the process of painting up a monster energy silverado for my DF02

otherwise somthing like the brat will look a bit silly with the wrong wheelbase, and I cant think of many modern alternatives to the 'proper' pickups from tamiya

The lexan Ford F-150 Racing truck (#58161) is built over a TA02 chassis. You can bolt the DF01 arms and dogbones straight to this kit to make a 4WD Stadium Truck type Truggy. I have done this here. This is a lexan body. The #58161 kit is a mix of TA01 and TA02 parts, but with a set of DF01 arms and wishbones the finished result is a short wheelbase DF01 (MantaRay).

Or, do you mean the hard bodies. F150 body from the SRB models or Blackfoot. Or Hi-lux and F350 body from the 3spd High Lift. These bodies would be very nice scaler type models but would not hold up well to the abuse one would be wanting to dish out to a truggy (big jumps, high speed rollovers).

The Kamtec Landrover 'flatbed' looks acceptable, but I have no idea on the dimensions or if it is suitable for 1/10 or 1/12 bodies. Only mentions Crawlers on the ebay auciton.

Any ideas?

Yer they are good shells. The with is 19cm or 7.5 inches. The lenght is 38cm or 15 inches. The height to where the shell mounts is 7.5cm or 3 inches. The overall hieght is 15cm or 6 inches. The windows and wheel arces come filled so you have to cut them. I am going to put lexan in as the windows once I have finishe the rest of the shell that i got for christmas. I need to cut the arches and paint. Then it can go on my newly built blackfoot.
