I have had a quick search, but thought i would ask as well :

1 - Were the clods ever ballraced as standard or have them supplied for any parts as standard?

2 - What is the cheapest motor you can buy that will give better performance? i am running 2 std silver cans at the moment and would like it to be quicker but dont want to spend loads if possible.

3 - does anyone use duck tape because the chassis front is missing due to a 'ahem' bump

ta :)

Hi Glyn,

1. Clods were not ball raced that I can recall. An obvious upgrade though.

2. Sport tuned cans are pretty good for what you pay. And it will work on the standard MSC.

3. Where on the chassis? Sound a little vage. Chassis are cheap get a new one.

Cheers

Henk :)

I run an emaxx evx esc with two batteries In my clod digger. At the moment it still has standard cans and it FLIES. so my advice look on fleabay for a cheap second hand traxxas evx or the hpi equivalent out of the E-savage.

The clods are not ballraced as standard so a good cheap upgrade.

Buy a chassis very cheap. Duck tape for chassis repair NOOOOOO

All Clods I've ever had/built only had one rubber-sealed bearing in each axle tube, where the axle tube meets the gearbox - Page 11, Step 19

TimeTunnel have recently advertised cheap bearing sets; Clod sets for £11.60

If you want to source your own, you need 16 or 20 x 1260 bearings (depending on the state of the 4 originals) and 4 x 850

1, Unless the Metallic Special comes with them, (it's Tamiya, so probably not) then no they didn't. But yes all Clods come with 4 1260 sealed bearings which (from memory) go on the inside of each axle.

2, There are plenty of aftermarket motor's out there for cheap, it depends on what speed control you are running, but sport tuned motor's are pretty cheap and the stock MSC or ESC (TEU-103-bk) can handle them. You might even get away with something a little 'peppier' as per the TEU 101-BK can handle more in most instances, so maybe the twin motor TEU can. Other option is to go for a Traxxas ESC (like posted above) or something like the Novak Super Duty XR for be all/end all brushed fun.

3, Duck Tape seems to be quite rare and hard to get ahold of at the moment as all the ducks have flown south for the winter. You could try Duct Tape, or buy a new chassis, they are cheap as chips

Screwfix sells Duck Tape

Other parts worth looking for are the 'Bullhead' chassis plates - They weren't fitted to the original Clod, only the Bullhead and the Super Clod

Page 6, step 6

They're steel plates to beef up the suspension mounts.

Pretty sure I got two of the smaller ones kicking around if you want them, but not BP7, although they're all in the 9405624 parts bag and there's a couple of sets on ebay for £4 + post

I have an ESC now Ripmax Xtra no limit SC in there now running the 2 motors, and it is not slow, but not fast, if you get what i mean.

Also the chassis, they appear to be £20+ new on ebay so will probably look out for a used one, the tape seems to be ok with keeping **** out at the moment!

LOL! I didn't think down was that strong. Although I am disappointed it doesn't have little pictures of ducks on it similar to Snoopy plasters

Oh cool, well there's plenty of options out there for you, I just figured you may have a Super clod with the factory twin motor ESC. Although I would advise you get motor's with plenty of torque, torque is more fun than super high rpm, and you have to shift 9lbs/4kg's of monster truck around.

I run this set up in my super clod. Just dug all my rc stuff out after nearly 3 years of it being boxed up. Found a new tamiya bz to put in it as well which was buried in one of the boxes, score. Just need to find another for the front lol.

get bearings. you need them

motors and esc? two options i'd suggest:

1)find a good esc that can handle 10 turn motor. get cheap 21 turn motors like venom fireball. two 21s in parallel is like one 10.5 turn. good to go.

2)run the silver cans with a good esc and just use more voltage. the silver cans have best torque of anything for the price. with more voltage, they'll fly.

you can still find the esp clodzilla chassis brace if ya look for one. making one can't be that hard
