Snetterton 2010

Recommended Posts

Thinking bout it when you say race do you mean timed or just track time like rest of the classes, one thing I really enjoyed about the previous Tamiya Club meets at Snetterton and Kidderminster was just the informality of it all, it was organised as much as you had similar classes on track at a time like tourers, vintage 2wd, vintage 4wd, monster trucks, Blackfoot/Monster Beetle, Lunchbox/Pumpkin etc. It wasnt all timed nor was it a demolition derby as everyone seemed to respect others cars (are you paying attention Twinset :) ). I do think Quincey is right dont halve the track just run different classes at different times.

What do you think?

id be up for the 19turn and mod tourer as for half a track for 19t cars id say no way,if im travelling all that way id want all of the track, plus weve got all day so there shouldnt be a problem, as long as it aint a free for all demolision derby then i will be alright.

can we have a heat for mardave's as well? mine's just sitting here and needs a good trashing.

Turnout wasn't huge last year, so the only (not very) formal events were the conga, lunchkin football, a lunchkin "race", and a session for big rigs. The rest of the time it was pretty much drive what you like, and as long as you tried to pay attention & avoid collisions, pretty much where you liked.

"Race" in this context really isn't formal at all, it just means that everyone will be driving something fairly similar, in a pre-determined route and direction around the track.

Believe it or not (hard from seeing some of the photos I know ;) ), some lunchkins did emerge unscathed from last years "race" - you don't have to take the ramps, and (AFAIK) any carnage was by mutual consent.

It was harder to avoid contact in the Lunchkin football, but it was mostly low speed tangles & rolls.

The idea for the "race" under discussion comes from an earlier meet at Snet, when Russ leant on my FF01 pretty much all the way round a 180 bend, finally getting ahead by backing off so I spun ... we both found it funny & thought we should have more of it. The idea is therefore to have a few amusing spins, _not_ break anything, but if you don't want to risk it, there'll be plenty of time to run your tourer around when it's not open season on your bodywork.

The advantage of "halving" the track for some of the time is that you can have different things going on when mixing the two wouldn't be wise - for instance drifting on one half, trucks on the other. If we get, say, a dozen people up for tourer "races", then I'd expect to use the full track, if it's like three or four, then it's not reasonable to expect use of the full track.

quincey - I guess it depends what's in your Mardave - if you're talking 4.8v & a silvercan, well, I found the track is just too big & open for there to be any skill (& therefore fun) in driving at that speed - Even I managed 3 laps without rolling. It's also very unlikely there would be enough interest to justify an exclusive track session - but if you don't mind running it with other sorts of cars, bring it along anyway :D

The biggest obstacle to having specific sessions is setup time - we _should_ be able to get at least a dozen twenty minute sessions + time for the conga in a 7+ hour day, but it seems most people need at least twenty minutes to plug a battery in & turn on a transmitter :)

I'm with Rich and Quincey, I didn't go to the last Snett do but whichever Kidderminster I went to was huge fun because the racing was informal and free from serious competition ..in fact after Quincey had cried out "Oh no! I think I'm on the wrong compound!" during a Lunchbox race I was laughing too much to see properly let alone compete! :)

As for the lunchy race and football it was hilarious, Im not sure about the mutual consent but I fully expected it from Twinset :)

As for tourers full BTCC rules is fine i.e. leaning on and nudges are epected. So basically, thoroughly enjoyed last years "chaos" and looking forward to more.... not sure my Durga is.

I have managed to blag the wife to let me come to this one. She and the kids will be comming to , I had to remind her tho of how much fun we all had at kiddiinster 07.

I have also manged to get hold of a zafira to make sure i can fit all the cars and camping things in. I could not get much in my astra coupe.

Will there be a list of set races ( i dont mean timed ones just fun ones) so I know what cars to get ready with what motors in ect.

ie i dont want to be entering a brushless 11.1v lipo vlb in the football lol.

I am really looking forward to this.

I'd be interested in a touring car race, as long as I can use brushless (10.5 or 13.5) as I don't own any brushed electrics.

do you have any idea of costs for the event ? cheers

£6 track fee (this was discounted to £3.50 last year, but I wouldn't guarantee the same for this year), + £7.50 campsite fee if you want to stay over the night before - both payable to the shop when you get there

If anyone needs directions, I have written up a bit of help, complete with photos - but only from the A11 heading north ... still, it'd also help with coming from any other direction.

If anyone wants a copy, pm me with your email address

Website for the track is http://www.spmcc.org.uk/, for the shop it's http://www.spmodels.co.uk/, BBC 5-day forecast for the area is http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/24?area=NR16 ... though there's no point looking there yet :D

Shop opening times are 9 am to 5 pm seven days a week.

There's no earliest time you can get there on the Sunday as such - though according to the track's website there is a latest time - the gates are locked up at 9pm.

I plan on getting there around 3pm on Sunday to have time for a leisurely look around the shop, pay my fees, and maybe blag a free hour on the track

Ok, with just over 3 weeks to go, I thought I'd summarise:

This event is for camping overnight on the 29th (optional), and all day on the track August Bank holiday (30th)

Attendees: sorry if I missed you, or put you in the wrong category:

Definites:

Blacque Jacque

skip665

subsea

sludgeguts

Jonny Retro

wolfdogstinkus

TWINSET

BiggusDitchus & Erica

pastonperson

mooter

Azkuma

_4-0_

mymonsterbeetleisbroken

quincey & wife

tynhead

Juttie

Dazza1 + wife & kids

Paulzippy

lurgy

Maybes:

Leethal Driver

Matt_N

schonbacher & mate

Etiquette:

Everyone is responsible for paying their own track fee (& camp fee if you're staying over the night before). Don't drive on the track if you haven't paid your fee.

You must use the frequency control peg board - bring your own clothes peg with your name on it (or find one at the track), take the appropriate peg off the board, and replace it with yours while you're using that frequency. If the peg for the frequency you want has already gone, use a different one - I'll have a few spare crytals, so will Russ (though we might want to keep a pair of yours hostage), or there's the shop right there.

No deliberate collisions with other peoples cars

Pay attention to the route other people are taking round the track, and either follow it, or give way to them

Give way to faster drivers

Overnight entertainment:

Alcohol is no problem on the Sunday night - but you will have to bring your own.

I think a few of us are up for a BBQ - nothing too involved, just bring a disposable unit or two & stuff to cook.

Events - we're planning on dedicated whole track sessions for:

Careful driving (early - while TWINSET is still asleep ;) )

Drifting

Trucks (as in big rig type trucks)

Jumping

(Static) "Conga" car line up

Including "Worst Presented Vehicle" & "Best Presented Vehicle"

5-a-side Lunchbox/Pumpkin football match:

"Official" ball will be a Round Ball Float ... also known as a Ballcock - I just bought three :)

As the Lunchbox bumper isn't up to controlling the "ball", we'll say up to 4 clothes pegs clipped on will be allowed.

Chassis/motors as per Lunchbox/Pumpkin "race".

Touring car races:

Any 1/10th scale electric tourer chassis (M's, TL01, FF, FF02, TT01, etc), any tires, any 2/4/5 door tintop road car shell

Depending on numbers, we'll hopefully run two classes: 19T brushed, and no-limit brushless.

If interest doesn't support that, it'll be mixed class.

"No contact", so head-ons & torpedo runs prohibited ... but using the car in front to help your braking, and leaning on another car in a corner to increase lateral grip is ok - but you need to be aware your bodyshell _IS_ going to get marked.

Lunchbox/Pumpkin "race"

No limits on motors, suspension mods allowed - but basically must be a Tamiya "wheelie car" chassis - Lunchbox, Pumpkin or Wild Willy 2 ...

I guess Willy's Wheeler & wild Willy M38 are also eligible, but you'd have to be nuts ...

Remember, it doesn't have to involve carnage - but it usually does biggrin.gif

+ several "run what you like" sessions.

Shop opening times are 9 am to 5 pm seven days a week.

There's no earliest time you can get there on the Sunday (I'm planning on around 3pm) - though the gates will probably be locked up at 9pm.

If you're just going for the Monday, I had no problem getting on the site at 8am

I'm suffering with a slipped disc atm ;) so don't be surprised if I need some help & don't offer any in return, I'll also be travelling fairly light, I plan on just bringing:

FF01 chassis (Escort body, 19T motor) for the touring car race

TA03F (Xsara body, 6000kv EZRUN) for drifing (I'm frit, pa!)

Lunchbox (Sport Tuned motor) for the Lunchkin race

Vintage Holiday Buggy for the careful driving session

Optima Pro for the "Worst Presented Vehicle class"

+

TL01 Badger Beetle (19T motor)

Schumacher Wildcat chassis (Capri body, Sport Tuned motor)

Frog (Bowler body, 35T motor)

M03 chassis (mk1 Golf body, Sport Tuned motor)

TT01 chassis (carbon RS200 body, Sport Tuned motor)

...all for general hooning about

Finally, pm me if you need directions.

Two weeks to go :D ... and another essay for you:

In order to finance the weekend and/or clear a bit of shelf space, I’m looking to sell a few kits… I’m posting here as at the moment I’m not looking to go to the hassle of taking electronic payments, parcelling up & shipping – just raising a bit of folding on the day itself.

All been stored in the proverbial cool dry place & shut away from sunlight, but if you’re a collector rather than a builder, the boxes are not great.

I think it’s likely the model shop would get a bit upset if I hawked these during their opening hours, so please PM me if you’re interested & I will bring them along on the day for a furtive out of hours exchange trackside ;)

Anyway …

#1 - NIB/unbuilt late 90’s Revell 1/32 McDonnell Douglas RF-4C Phantom II kit

Has been unsealed & looked at, 1 tiny bit has come off sprue but has been kept safe with a bit of blu-tac. Box is a little deformed/worn. Original price ticket (£29.99) still on it, looking for £15

#2 - NIB/unbuilt late 90’s Revell 1/72 Avro Lancaster “Dam Buster†kit

Has been unsealed & looked at. Box is a little deformed/worn. Original price ticket (£12.99) still on it, looking for £6

#3 - NIB/unbuilt late 1970’s Matchbox 1/32 PK-502 Messerschimdt Bf/109E.3/4 ‘Emil’

Box by collectors standards is the poor side of fair – it’s worn around the corners, a bit faded, a little warped in places, and has had some sort of big round sticker removed (badly) from the white space on the front … this never bothered me as I was planning to build it. The protective sheet over the transfers is poor, but the transfers themselves look perfectly useable.

If you’ve never built a Matchbox kit before, they are extremely well moulded & go together very well – well up to Tamiya standards IMO (although the super fine detail isn’t there) a lot less flimsy than Revell, and they whiz all over Airfix IMO. Paid £30 for this about a decade ago & I’d like to get that back.

#4 - NIB/unbuilt Italeri late 90’s 1:72 MIG-29 Fulcrum-A

Box is a little deformed/worn.Original price ticket (£5.99) still on it, looking for £3

#5 - NIB/unbuilt early 2000’s Academy 1/32 Sopwith Camel F1 kit. Pretty much perfect as still shrinkwrapped, though the shrinkwrap does have a small oval hole on the front. Original price ticket (£10.99) still on it, looking for £5

#6 - NIB/unbuilt recent 1/24 Tamiya Eunos Roadster kit (same as Mazda MX-5/Miata).

All internal bits still sealed in bags, box has a couple of creases in it & sides have warped a little. Paid £12 for this, would like to get £7 back.

#7 - NIB/unbuilt Tamiya 58325 Eunos Roadster (same as Mazda MX-5/Miata) this is the (semi) re-re on the M-04M chassis. Eastern Import so no speed control, was missing mirrors so I had to buy them separately, so they’re in different packaging. Looking to get £95 for this.

Also a couple of pairs of shoes: not quite new in box as I tried them on … both are size 11, but feel more like a 10 (so they don’t fit me ;) )

#8 – Firetrap lace up plimsoles, black upper, yellow sole, £5

#9 – Karrimor Traveller Hiking shoes – blue & grey, £10

Prices are very firm, but on the RC Eunos Roadster kit I might be interested in a trade –especially hard body 4WD scalers (e.g. Pajero Metaltop Wide, Isuzu Mu, Honda CR-V etc), a vintage Pajero, a 4WD F1 type car, or possibly a FWD or 4WD tourer.

B)

edit - And finally (for now) -

#10 - boxed Taiwanese fake Wild Willy M38 - complete with flashing lights and really, really annoying siren, paid £19.50 for it, would like to get that back. Box is in fairly poor condition, car itself is very good.

ps this one wil definitely be coming with me - either to sell, or throw into TWINSET's tent, mid-hangover ;)
