Hi Johnny Retro,

It is with great regret I cannot make the event for personal reasons at the end of the month now. I'm a stickler for punctuation and realiability and feel sad I am ducking out at the eleventh hour. Even though it's an informal get together rather than an out and out competition I would like to send some parts down for prizes as recompense for all you guys meeting up. You may wish to have some 'for fun' competitions with best and worse shells, longest jump etc.

Please PM me your address and I'll send some parts down to you.

Once again sorry

Chris

Very sorry to hear that Chris :P

I never say no to a free lunch, so I will PM you my address - very generous of you :o

To all - can we have some suggestions for categories for these prizes? We already have some (and I use the word very loosely) _trophies_ lined up for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in "worst presented vehicle" and "best presented vehicle" categories, so what about some more silly ones?

"Longest Jump" (and or "highest") sound good, how about:

Most inept hill climb (we find a bank, and the scaler that makes the _least_ distance up it wins?)

Most satorially inelegant (aka "stupidest hat award" ;) )

Biggest contribution to the conga?

Furthest travelled?

Most RC cars in the smallest 1:1 car ?

etc, etc - please post your ideas/votes B)

Preparations are fairly well advanced in the Retro garage ... seriously, apart from finding some spare chuddies, all I have left to do is buy some pork chops, marinade them (the pork chops, not the chuddies) & load the car up :D

Got the week off so spending time in shed repairing cars (some still broken from last year LOL) and charging batteries. One proplem at minute is the Volvo, MOT has expired, as has the handbrake, the car seems to be running on at best 4 cylinders (its supposed to have 5) and the MOT garage cant put it through till thursday :D so fingers and other digits are well and truly crossed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ!

Gate Closing times

First up, an important note: the latest information we have is that the gates will be closed at 1930 (seven thirty PM) each night – if you’re travelling down the night before, you need to make sure you’re there before then, and on Monday, unless you want to camp overnight, you’ll need to be out by then too.

Help Needed

I also need a couple of volunteers to bring some stuff:

1 - Someone who’ll be there on the Sunday to bring an old hosepipe (or a cheap new one) that they don’t mind getting cut up

2 – A Monday attendee to bring a loud, CDR-capable Ghetto Blaster in case there are issues with the PA

Sunday Night Entertainment

The “bring your own BBQ/food/booze” recommendation still stands, but in addition, I want to try to run a couple of events:

Hill Climb

Car – anything at all – scalers, crawlers, minis, whatever.

A suitable grass bank will be selected & the course marked out, head to head runs (either time to the top or distance covered) will decide it. There may be a prize for the overall winner.

Lunchkin Sumo

Car - rules as for Lunchkin 5-a-side/Lunchkin race – i.e. If you think you can handle it, put it in…

A suitable dohyo (arena) will be marked out, cars will “wrestle” two at a time on a knockout basis from a head to head start in the centre, best of 3 falls per match. Again, there may be a prize for the overall winner.

Monday Timetable

A 10 minute warning will be given for each of the main events, a further 5 minute warning/track clearing instruction, and the event will start on the hour and last for 20 minutes - with the exception of a late start for the Musical Garages and a late finish for big rigs.

Times are fixed – if you miss the start of the event, well, you miss the start …

This gives the badly organised 40 minutes to get ready for the next event, and for the well organised, plenty of extra 20 to 30 minute sessions to run what you like in between the main events.

Up to 0840 - free running for those who have already paid their track fee

0845 Driver Briefing

0900 Shop opens – if you haven’t paid your track fee, you need to be in there the moment the doors open …

0915-0935 Musical Garages

I really shouldn’t have to explain this.

Cars – any.

0935-0955 free running

slow/careful/vintage driving only

1000-1020 Lunchkin Football (10 minutes each way)

1020-1055 free running

1100-1120 Tourer Race (up to 19T brushed)

1120-1155 - jumps (on the last corner/main straight/first corner), free running elsewhere.

1200-1300 Conga, best/worst vehicle judging & trophies

1300-1330 Big Rigs only – trucks cost an awful lot of money & I don’t think a 1/2 hour session without the risk of getting twunted by a fast moving tourer is excessive.

1330-1355 free running

1400-1420 Tourer Race (unlimited/brushless)

1420-1455 free running

1500-1520 Lunchkin Race

1520-1830 (one hour before the gates close) - free running

Finally, a quick note to anyone not happy with the above:

Unless I’ve made an errors/omissions, this will be the timetable – all the discussion has already been done by the organising committee (me, Ian, Russ & Simon), & if you think that was easy, well, you’ve obviously forgotten that more than three people can’t generally agree on what to have for lunch, much less anything else …

If you don’t like it, come down the day before the event starts when there won’t be any restrictions, and/or volunteer to organise an event next year :D

Would it be worth having the Lunchkin race before the football? (there might be at least two more competitors that way :D )

Also, how about a WW/WW2 race?

I have a reasonable CD/R comp blaster, but it'll need a mains feed

Thanks for the offer of the Brixton Briefcase - mains power should be no problem ;)

Regarding your other points, you're well and truly bolting the stable door after the steaks have been eaten.

IIRC the only things that came close to breaking in the Lunchkin football were the marshals ankles, so if you could manage to hold off deliberately torpedoing Biggus until the Lunchkin race, I don't see why you couldn't take part in both events.

Wild Willys are catered for in the "vintage/careful" track session, and as I've already posted, Wild Willy 2's are welcome in the Lunchkin race.

I also refer you to the final two paragraphs of post # 114 ;)

Tiddly oggy & gravy.

See :D

What, we all have to eat the same thing? no wonder it's taking so long ;)

Sumo sounds a giggle, I'm not winching Biggus into a nappy though
