Hey Guys

It's been a while since I posted properly on here, about 2 years I guess after I finished off this project TLT Custom 1/10 Dodge Ram.

Well, I dug out all my Tamiya gear last weekend after it being in storage and made the mistake of getting back on here a few days ago to see how the RC world has changed. The result of this is that I popped into my local hobby shop yesterday on the fly and picked up a Nosram Evil Power and 10.5T brushless combo for £80 which seems to be a good price and an easy opportunity to give brushless a try whilst supporting my local store. Big mistake though as I have the spending bug again.

I have a Blackfoot Xtreme which is fully ballraced and been runing a Reedy 19T since 05 which I thought I would chuck the brushless in. I have my Super Clod set up with a Ripmax nolimit ESC to run two motors and was planning to chuck 2 Super Stock BZ's in. I have 1 but need to purchase a new one. So my shopping list comprises.

1 x New Tamiya off roader - possibly CR01

1 x Super Stock BZ

2 x Brushless Combos (ezrun 9Ts)

2 x 2.4Ghz Radio Gear

Batteries and Chargers

I have always been into my trucks so for an off roader was thinking the CR01 as I have the BFE and Clod. Are the CR01s pretty nippy with the right motor or are they really a 5mph crawler? Otherwise I was thinking of the CC01 which I know are quite good.

The other big thing is batteries. My 3000mhh Venom NiMh packs don't seem to hold their charge well so I was thinking of a Vapextech 3700 or higher. However, I could go up to a decent lipo and charger and keep the older packs for my Brushed set ups.

Is it really worth spending out on Lipo at this stage?

I am also disapointed to find we only have two hobby stores left in the area (Bournemouth / Poole) worth going in. 3 or 4 have closed in the last 3 years by the looks of it which is very sad.

Right I have put the nosram brushless in the blackfoot xtreme and it is almost too quick. I had to buy a new charger as my pro peak didnt appear to be working. Got a ansmann xbase delux off ebay on sat for £16. Local seller just down the road from me and I picked it up tonight. Total bargain and stroke of luck. Its charging my venom 3000 nimh packs in 30 mins which is nice. Ran one of these through the nosram and me thinks lipo would be overkill. The motor is rated at 10.5t 4100 kv so 19t brushed class. Plenty of punch enough to kick the back wheels round when at 2/3 speed even on the 3000 nimh pack.

The nosram has a lifetime warranty which is nice. Its an ai sensored unit and really just plug and play. The lack of settings may frustrate some but for no hassle bashing and entry users, it seems ideal.

If you're into your speed and power then the CR-01 isn't for you really. Unless you want to spend a lot more money modifying one. I built a Unimog over the Xmas holidays and like yourself have just returned to the hobby after a couple of years away. I must say that I'm totally bitten by the whole crawler thing. I've got a massively pimped out TXT-1 with RZ motors in it and the Unimog is way more fun. A 3600MAH battery will last for what seems an eternity compared to the 10 mins or so of run time I got off the TXT with two batteries in it. I've had a lot of fun so far tinkering with the set up of the Unimog and have just spent a small fortune on Ebay and and at the Junfac website on new bits and pieces for it. Slower but with massive amounts of torque is the way ahead for me now with my RC trucks. I'll defo being be ripping the RZ motors out of my TXT to turn it into a crawler too when i'm done with my Moggie.

Just out of interest has anyone here ever stuck a BZ, RZ or similar turn motor in a CR-01 chassis? I guess you'd definitely need to put much stiffer suspension in there and definitely replace those plastic drive shafts before even thinking about it. I just wonder how the planetary gearbox would hold up.

Cheers for the reply. I thought the cr01 may be quite slow but great fun either way.

On another note, I have been striping my super stock BZ tonight and its easy to remove the tab which fixes the timing so it will go in reverse or set at neutral in the clod which is a result.

I found some SS TZ's on ebay cheap so will get one to compliment the BZ.
