Is there any advantage to locking the diffs on a clod, and would you lock both or just the back or front? And how do you do it?

Is your clod standard and being used for general bashing or are you rock crawling?

Locking the diffs will help on off road traction but you will loose some cornering ability at speed if you were hooning it around.

just off roading really.my garden is a bit of a slope and i noticed it struggled a bit with it last night,so it got me wondering

Worth a try then. I would suggest packing the diffs with blutack or playdough as a trial. Playdough is easy to get out as will dissolve in hot water with some scrubing leaving the gears undamaged. Blutack will come out too but if there has been movement in the diff it can be a pita to unpick it all.

Glue gun also works.

May as well do both. Are you using the standard motors and mechanical speed controller as if you have it stripped, it is always a good opportunity to upgrade. Changing to the tamiya dual motor esc will help no end with driveability.

Before you strip it all down, check the wheels aren't spinning in the tyres - If they are, wrap a couple of elactic bands around the bead groove in the wheel and give it another go :)

If you do try locking the diffs, hot glue or polymorph are your best options as a temporary fit, they both come out pretty easy (especially if there's still some old grease on the gears)

Ah ok

Try the rear diff first - that way you will still have a turning circle measured in inches not miles

Lol so true. I have a good mod for that using the standard single servo setup. Instead of using the servo horn that comes with the kit, fit a large 4 arm one. I had one come with my futaba hi torque servo. The extra arc makes a huge difference to how much the wheels turn.

if you are willing and able to spend the money, companies like crawford performance engineering (cpe) and thundertech sell diff lockers that are aluminum pieces that bolt in pace of the diff side gears. they aren't cheap, but if you want to open the diff again, just remove the parts and put the gears back. there are also some ball diffs out there, but again, they aren't cheap. check out clodparts.com for a good list of parts available for clods

The Integy gear is a replacement for the diff, just take the diff assembly out, drop the Integy gear in.

Yes mate - that pic is Integy's entire Clod gearbox replacement set BUT you can also buy them seperately.

The gear on the bottom left of that photo is a combintation of the gears in the diff and also the brass drive hexes

All the highlighted parts are replaced by that one gear ;)

good man thank you

personally, i'd never have anything made by integy. their stuff is junk. their wheel wideners are the only parts i haven't heard terrible things about. those diff gears are weaker than the stock ones.
