How doooooo!

Just testing the water here chaps. I keep getting a few requests for a disk of some sort with my movies on.

So, I was wondering if there would be enough people interested in buying a CD or DVD from me with ALL my movies on? At a cheap price too..

Just let me know your thoughts really. It wont happen just yet, But I was thinking of re-making all my films in really hi-res so you can have superb quality etc.

Plus there could be lots of unseen footage on there like ya get on ya DVD extra's [;)]

Deleted scenes.. LOL!!!

The only thing I'm not keen on is the compatabilty problems with DVD's/CD's etc.

I'd rather do DVD's to be honest, But my software is not so good.

Any input you got would be much appreciated.

It's just an idea as I'm gona have some spare time on my hands soon [;)]

Cheers, Mark.

Hey mark,

I've also thought of doing something like this, but like you I am unsure if the work involved would warrant the demand...

If I did do it, it wouldn't be just a disk of the same movies you can download of TC - I mean, even if you don't have broadband you can often get a friend to download them etc. After all it only costs maybe a quid to burn/post a DVD - how much would people be willing to pay if they didn't have downloading abilities?

Personally I would do a DVD, with full TV res versions of the movies (some rediting work will be necessary to get titles back into the TV safe areas, but otherwise it's easy to do as all my movies are done at TV res and then converted down for online use). Then I would do DVD menus etc and some other bits, photo slideshows and whatever else came to mind. For this I would probably only charge to cover costs and not profit from it because if you are selling stuff, you have to bear in mind the music situation.

It would make much more sense (in terms of demand) to do a proper official TC DVD with new movies featuring great footage from other TC members, and again I've been toying with the idea of doing that. Obviously the demand would be much higher as you have a much wider scope. However, I'm not in the best position to do that yet (time-wise) and it would require some work and some help from other members... And for this it would probably have original music, which again is another whole boatload of work (for example, the intro music on the TC video intro took an evening to do, and that's only 15 secs or so, although I did try out a few ideas).

Certainly if this ever went forward you would be one of the guys I would be asking for footage, rest assured of that! :)

Hi Mark,

I've got all the software and a multi-format writer plus a bit of experience of making DVD's but what I don't have is time, else I'd master a disc for you.

What I would say is be careful about selling the discs at any kind of profit given that there is copyrighted music on the movies. I only thought about it *after* I had flogged a load of DVD sets.

Hi Mark,

basically that is a good idea. I would buy one.

Be cautious if you want to use music from someone else. I already started once a thread about copyrights and according to my opinion, it's already illegal to use songs for our videos even if you put them here online in order to share your hobby. Illegality is one thing - being caught is another one. I' m quite sure that no one will take legal action if you use a snippet but when you sell your videos, copyright owners might become a bit upset and show no mercy.

All the best

Cheers guys! This is what I needed honesty.

I had a feeling the music would be the main problem with the idea.

I really wanted to do a DVD as well now. But there is no way I'm risking it or using differant music.

The music is the key to all films, 50% of the fun if you ask me, without a doubt.

I might look into how much it costs per year to cover using the music.

Bands, Groups pay it when doing covers of other artists songs etc. in public.

Leave it with me.... [;)]

Funnily enough on the music front you might even want to look at approaching bands for use of a track or two for this purpose. up coming bands often do it for next to nothing for a bit of exposure. In the past year alone I've had two completely seperate mates have tracks picked up to be featured on top games (fifa 2005 and Burnout Revenge) They got paid peanuts, then again I guess their tracks are heard by 1000s because of the games so its a bit different but it may still be worth while trawling the web for some of the unsigned bands sites out there...

Id be willing to do some guitar work for it . I dont have a setup at home here to add the drums , bass but I can record straight into my comp. off my guitar amp . I can swing anything from head trippy echoy clean toned strumming to full blown Slayerish speed metal . Oh well , the offer is there if you want it . Not looking for any money either other than maybe geting a paid subscription out of it [:D] lol ....*sigh*
