Hi Folks,

After seeing the Re-Re of the Sand Scorcher and Buggy Champ, doe's anyone know, or at least think that Tamiya will Re-Re the Superchamp?

I had one as my first rc car back when I as about 7 (1989ish), it was second hand but I loved it. I even remember having the creamy coloured hump packs. I honestly didnt remember the car much until I saw a photo of a superchamp and the bottle of fluid on the rear, with the pipe to the rear shock brought back all the memories.

I really do hope they do re-release it!

I hope so too. Its one of my favorite SRBs even though alot of people don't consider them true SRBs. I love Tamiya's quirky early ideas and the Super Champ's rear suspension certainly is. I don't see it happening since it will require even more parts to be made over the current SS/RR, but who knows. Folks said the SRBs would never be re-re'd and look what happened.

I would like to see the Super Champ re-released, but I doubt it will. I don't think it'd be popular enough for them to make a profit on it, now they've saturated the market with Buggy Champs and Sand Scorchers. Plus there are quite a few differences between the kits, which adds to Tamiya's cost considerations.

The front section of the Super Champ body shell is a much nicer shape than the boxy Rough Rider, and is much closer to the shape of the full size Funco body.

I have seen a member here graft the front half of a Super Champ shell onto the back part of a Rough Rider shell, it looked sooo much better!

I've always preferred the SC's looks to that of the RR, so I'd hope they do re-re it.

We've said "it'll never be re-re'd" in the past and been wrong, so I guess anything is possible.

The Superchamp is the only one of the four SRBs that interests me enough to fork out that sort of money - I never had any of the others, no-one I knew had any of the others, so there's no interest there for me.

So I really hope Tamiya do re-release the Superchamp ... but then I was positive Tamiya would re-release the Ford F150 Ranger XLT & Superchamp _before_ the Sand Scorcher - so what do I know ;)

Wasn't there an unused hole in the FRP deck of the re-re SRB's? ;) I read it somewhere here on the forums, attached with the rumors that it would be for the front post of the upper deck of the Super Champ?

The Super Champ chassis was just a revision to the original SRB plate - it has the slotted holes for the radio box mouldings even though they weren't required, so the current SRB chassis are probably made to the last revision of the drawing ie; when it was changed for the original run of the Super Champ

I havent seen a Super champ or Rough Rider in years,

If I bought a Re-Re rough rider, how difficult would it be to fit the superchamp suspension setup? Would the parts be hard to source?

You can get the parts to do it , but you would need quite a lot of parts , as all the rear end is different , including the gearbox (4mm holes for bumper mount), suspension A arms ( larger diameter rear holes for damper arms ) , damper and arms set-up rear bumper and mount and other sundry hardware.

Superchamp gear box and arms in there ,the rear cage lower mounts are drilled out to 4mm to bolt onto gearbox ,the shell is RR heavily modified to look like Belray Bullet - kinda Champ like innit

Kev, that looks mint. That is so what the Rough Rider should have originally looked like... Unfortunately, the original RR body was a bit distorted, because it had to clear the big square radio box...

Do you have any more pics of the work in progress for that body? I'd love to see them!

Thanks James , Yes Tamiya could have easily made the RR like this but they made the SC instead .There was quite a lot of work modifying the body and I enjoyed every minute of it . I will take some shots of this a bit further along the way as it is very much in its early days, I have some shots of the redesigned chassis layout to accomodate the radio gear which is on a small custom made deck ( like the Superchamp but smaller , and it has direct steering and quick release battery

ill say it again just like how I said it about the sand scorcher re-release and buggy champ,

"they wont release it due to the molds have been busted and lost through the years"

"the metal would cost too much to make just like the sand scorcher costing tamiya tons of money to mold"

"they are out of date cars why make them when others are better"

"I doubt they will re-release anything"

and finally,

"tamiya wont release the super champ cause its so old"

and by the way tamiya I LOVE BEING WRONG!!!

I think Tamiya have proven that the only consideration is if there is enough demand for the kit, so that it will sell well enough to justify the production cost... I am sure they still have the body shell moulds, and they most certainly could if they wanted to... For now, I think that the Buggy Champ and Sand Scorcher have satisfied the current market for these kits, so while a Super Champ is possible, it's unlikely.

I see what your saying, however anyone who's aware of the Scorcher and RR, will more than likely be a collector, and therefore Tamiya are almost gaurenteed most will also complete their collection with the Superchamp!

Lets hopeso anyways!

I must agree! When I first decided to get a SRB to see what they were all about I liked the Super Champ style a lot more than the Scorcher or Rough Rider (F-150 shouldn't be on a scale VW chassis), so that's the one I seeked out and bought.

The Rough Rider/Buggy Champ has grown on me now and I like it too. Nothing wrong with having them all is there?
