Sonic's post has just confounded my sadnesss at more and more of the old school moving on from the scene. Such a shame, bit like people leaving a party. There are some new names, but not enough to replenish the deserters [:(]

Surely they should all hang on to some of the cars as some of my biggest regrets were selling cars I loved. I know I won't make the same mistake twice. Also most people's reasons for leaving is having kids or moving house or real cars etc.. Should I be growing up too? **** I have 2 kids and another on the way and want to poison them with my addiction.

Just a bit sad and wanted to share. Go on cheer me up :D

Mate - not everyone will leave.

I too have 2 children - and another due in 11 weeks! I live in a house full of females!! I am happy that they love the cars like their dad - and even drive them occasionally.

Many different stages of life.......to some material things do not matter......however I, like you could not let them go again.

Once you have been addicted to this hobby - it never leaves you. Your number of cars may dwindle - but I dont think the passion or the memories die.

Cheers

I'd like to think I can contribute, even though I am new. I've been a tamiya fan for years, but actually only got on forums about a year ago, and found this a couple of months ago. I have contributed some $$, but am not yet a subscriber. Hopefully the guys you speak of, will keep that one or two special cars they really enjoy.

There was another thread similar to this one late last week....

I think that the 30 somethings might be growing up, not in the sense of thinking there beloved toys are truley toys, but more so along the lines of maturing with life itself, mostly attributed to buying new homes, putting kids into college, etc... you know all that "important" stuff that takes up a lot of $$$$$$, that we would prefer to spend on the hobby.

my 2 cents....

I agree ^. Ever since my daughter was born last year, my priorities have really been revised. I still love the hobby, but I just can't devote as much time to it. Though, I am never going to sell any of my cars. NEVER!!! [}:)][:)]

I have been talking with 2 very loyal collectors over the past few weeks and they are leaving the hobby as well! :-( One needs the money to stay afloat and the other one just says it isn't as much fun the 2nd time around! They are both selling their entire collections. I, myself, will be cutting back on the collecting as well because I am saving for a house! But I am not leaving the hobby completely...just scaling down a bit!

You just got to think bigger. For every big collector we have on our books I'd put money there were another 10 out there yet to discover us - so spread the word! I still amazed by some of the collections of people joining on only now, just when you think there can't be any big collectors left - another one appears out of the blue with the same story as the rest of us :D

Its sad to see people move on (and get real lives) and leave the rest of us behind to struggle with our addictions, but its inevitable I suppose. But for all those that can't be cured the club will be here where you can talk to people with similar problems.

Also I think its good to have a hobby, (even if sometimes its only a very *occasional* one), to give you a break from the supposedly More Important Things In Life [;)].

There will always be things that seem more important than just relaxing and doing something you enjoy. However, in my experience setting a bit of time aside to do something you really enjoy regardless of what else is going on is actually really theraputic. I believe the phrase for it is some quality "me" time....... It doesn't need to be much, just as long as you do make the time to do it regularly.

Well uKVintage,

I am staying. Ofcourse kids take time (and money) but my third one turned out to be twins so there are four of them.

I have to collect more cars otherwise it will be unfair when the have to share later [:D]. Wait this made me think....Yeah I need 4 Hiluxes, 4 Bruisers, 4 Sand Scorchers, 4 Prerunners, 4 Jeeps, 4 Pajero's, 4 Mu's 4.......

Don't worry I stay for a while LoL [:D][:D][:D]

(Don't tell the wife I wrote this please[;)][:I] or I may be gone after all !)

Sometimes this works the other way round as well. When I were a lad (queue Largo's new world symphony) (thats the hovis add music).. where was I .. when I were a Lad we were the more important things to my parents, and they would rather spend (their) money on the important things, like house car, clothes for us.. etc so we couldn't afford R/C cars. All me mates had one but me[:(] However, The boot is on the other foot now my friends. I have the house and the kids, and the burning desire to make sure we get some good r/c cars in the house for them to play with. and they WILL ENJOY. (or I'll send em to bed.[:D] (Does this make me a good dad, or a bad dad. lol.

I didnt get back into it until i had a kid and a house and found one at car boot and away i went. Brought it all back. I suppose the light was always there just needed some tinder to start a raging inferno [:D] Now i cant stop there in my wardrobe,in my shed, under the bed even on top of my sons cupboard . My son is 6 and as expected is getting right into rc offroading he really wants a wild willy 2 as i built a tamiya willys war jeep with him. Well thats my 10 pennys worth. I will be here as long as my battery pack keeps running!

I haven't really slowed down yet although I would like to focus my collection a bit and sell of a few that I no longer hold interest in.

Not to get off subject, but whatcha selling Jim?

Well, since I've had my two kids, my collection has risen to eight cars, two helicopters, one hovercraft, with a further four cars having passed through my hands.

I love my kids, but I need a break every now and then - and RC is the perfect choice! I must admit, I'm looking forwards to the time when the kids have the skills to come and 'play' with me aswell...

For every one moving out of the hobby there will be at least one moving in. The re-releases will only add to that. I wonder how many 30 somethings there are out there who owned an 80's Tamiya buggy who have no idea about this club and the current re-re climate and would jump at the chance of indulging all over again? A lot IMHO.

I have been a Tamiya Enthusiast for over 25 years now and have a wonderful wife and 3 starving children. I know i should give up some of this hobby or all of it to feed them, but somehow we always manage to survive eating M&Ms and drinking water, so i will never give it up.

I hope nobody took any of that seriously. I would never feed my family M&Ms when they clearly love Reeses Pieces [}:)]

Hope that little joke cheered up some of you.

LOL - Reminds me of Eddie Murphy's "RAW" standup video.........(this could be the collectors version):

"we were so poor because of dad's car collecting - so poor that we ate eagle racing hornet tires - so poor that I didnt have a birthday cake like any normal kid - I had a strikler kit box - with shocks for candles"

I am 32 and I am expecting a baby girl next January. At this stage I realize I probaby can't be so devoted in terms of both time and money like when I got back the hobby 2 years ago. My TC subscription expired on 14 Oct and strangely I haven't yet renewed it. It seems like I am holding on to my 50+ models and not knowing where they would lead me to...Maybe one day they would all go to make room and money? [?] [V]

I think I grew up when I hit 30, this meant I stopped spending money on 1:1 cars and boats, spending money on 1:10 models is soooo inexpensive compared to dumping it into the 1:1's, plus it takes up a lot less space.

None of my local friends think much of it, but stink on them, this hobby is wonderful.[:D][:D]

I feel I am in it for the long haul.[^]

That was a good one Darryn. In this Hobby you need a sense of humor, without one you're not really enjoying this hobby.
