Does anyone know if the mini-Z chassis will fit a Yinrun Vortex body?

Bottom left with the picture of the box

I stumbled across another member's modified slot car and custom suspension, (with vid of it running on a tennis court) but haven't been able to find it again with the search. Any help would be appreciated.

That was me :)

Showroom entry here. Video is here.

There's not much left of it that is actually Mini-Z. The radio board and the motor is all. The gearing is from the slotcar. Steering servo is micro flight (from a park flyer plane) rewired to match the odd Kyosho wiring (4 wires instead of 3). The front suspension is hand made with the dremel.

The Mini-Z is a bit of a strange scale. It's 1:24 wide and 1:28 long. If you extend the chassis at the T-Plate it will fit neatly under a 1:25/1:24 static model body.

I've done it twice now, but the next time I used static 1:32 model kit with Losi Micro-T motor and the Mini-Z radio board powered by a Losi battery pack. Far easier to work with on 1:32 scale. Shelby Cobra 427.

The Yinrun website wouldn't open for me, so can't say if it will fit.

Here's a pic of my Yinrun car. I picked it up in the dollar store years ago (for $2? huh??) to satisfy a sudden urge to build models again.

Apparently they were intended to be fitted with radio gear also manufactured by the company for r/c slot car races ala the "Record Breaker" craze of the late 80's (no steering). It's actually quite good quality as these cars go, the only downside being the matte finish decals. I'd very much like to make this one a full function r/c leaving the slot car guide wheels intact just for fun's sake, though I might not bother with attempting to make front working suspension.

Just because it's Uncanny:

So anyway, in my quest to get the Yinrun car converted into a full function R/C, I decided to make a trip to Pacific mall (local mall that sells mostly knock offs and toys directly from Japan/China/etc) to pick up a crappy R/c of similar scale for donor parts.

I see as soon as I walk in through the door:

So, to be clear here. Years ago I bought a random toy in a thrift store, then recently had the urge to make it full R/C and the first store I go to for parts, to start the project, has an exact replica of the car that's already a full function R/C. Worse than that, it's better in every possible way than the car I was going to hack apart AND it's on sale for $15CDN! Madness!

Here they are for side by side comparison, along with a Tamiya tool for scale. You'll notice that while they're clearly based on the same car, the Yinrun is sporting fake made-up decals while the new car is sporting replicas (probably still not liscensed) of the real decals.

You can see here that the new car is a bit longer than the Yinrun, but just as wide, for somewhat more realistic proportions.

Far better molding and decals on the right (guide wheels not withstanding). Also the new car rides a bit higher.

Ah yes. I know the ones you are talking about now. I have a Repsol Escort Rally and ST202 Celica Rally of the same. These too are an odd scale, sort of squashed like the Mini-Z, but smaller, 1:24 width and 1:32 length.

They are too small for the Mini-Z. But they do fit perfectly on the wheelbase of a Losi Micro-T 1:36 with the wheels sticking out stadium truck style.

Good to know. I may have to do some hacking anyway, since I just put batteries into the new car and noticed that it doesn't drive at all. The rear wheels don't run freely even by hand so I'm pulling it apart to see what's obstructing them.

Wow. Totally doesn't work at all. Nothing in the gearbox obstructing the wheel, the drivetrain simply siezes every half revolution or so. Without the motor everything turns fine, but the motor alone also turns fine. Obsessive modification attempts left me with a destroyed and cut up drive gear in both and no success whatsoever. Maybe I'll go have a conversation with the guy at Pacific mall tomorrow :)

Fixed. Turns out the reason the tranny was siezing was because the plastic pinion attached to the motor had split. The guy at Pacific mall was more than helpful, and after testing another of the Lancers (to discover that the remote didn't work) he gave me a Ford focus free. (which then donated its motr and spur gear to fix the lancer)
