Anyone looking for a car they just can't find anywhere?

Perhaps you're looking for an obscure RC car that's so rare, you've never even seen one.

Or perhaps it's something that's not ultra rare, but rare enough that you've tried to win one several times in the past, but always missed out.

Either way, what's your story?

Personally, there is one toy shop car that would mean a lot to me if I found it. It's a little buggy from the late 1980s called the Nikko Night Stalker. It's one of those cars that nobody else would even care about, but it has special significance for me. In fact I still have my original one, boxed with manual, but it needs restoration. I would dearly love to find a NIB one, and there HAS to be one out there somewhere. So if anyone knows of one, then PM me! In the past 5 years or so, I've only ever seen one other used example come up on eBay (which I won).

Over the past 10 years I have searched for a number of other rare cars, but have slowly ticked them all off my list. As Darryn showed with his Optimas, good things come to those who wait. Most things do come around eventually, but some things seem to require endless patience.

What rare car do you wish you could find?

I wish I still had either the "Funny Firebird" or the "Tandy Ford Cobra" from my childhood. Both were terribly underpowered and steered by way of having only one rear wheel (a motor apiece) turn at a time. On the firebird, the front wheels were fixed, and on the cobra they were on a swivel and only turned because the rear wheel would pull it to one side. I can't even find pictures of either, but it would be nice to get a hold of them again, even if they'd both be scuttled by standard carpet.

Vanity Fair (Kidde) PerFormance Chevy 4x4 truck model 4620. Basically an all-black Chevy Stepside style truck.

I got it when I was around 8 or 9 years old circa 1980.

It was my first store-bought radio control vehicle that wasn't a single push button controller. It had a steering wheel and lever for control. Forward, reverse, steering only while going forward. Steering was proportional, motor was not.

Only one of the rear wheels actually drove the truck. It wasn't really 4-wheel drive or even 2-wheel drive.

I literally ran it until the motor brushes wore out. I replaced them with bent metal I had from some old mechanical relays. The motor was NOT supposed to be user-serviceable.

Then the gears wore out, and I used some ever-so-slightly larger gears as replacements which of course wore out the other gears and I finally gave up.

I still have the truck, but it's in pieces. Not sure I could put it back together again.

If I could find another, it would be rather special.

Back in 1980 or so Radio Shack [Tandy] sold an R/C van with 2 speeds and working headlights that looked a bit like the Hardy Boys van from the TV series - kind of a multi-color tan, custom street-model Chevy van with smoked windows if I remember correctly. It actually was fairly quick for a toy and I drove the wheels off it - literally. When the axle/spindle broke and a wheel went rolling off it was the end because parts were not available at any price - at least not where I lived. It ran off 6 or 8 C batteries and maybe a 9 volt but I'm not sure about that. It certainly ate the batteries, that much I do remember. I would really like to get one for pure nostalgia reasons. I've never seen one since though.

I'm not exactly searching for it because I know the chance is pretty much 0% that I'm ever going to find one even if I search hard... And even when I would probably be unable to afford it...

This is my small list:

- The Ryuz FF FWD Competition Buggy (Custom build I believe, likely not for sale)

- One of these 2 other FWD Competition Buggies or a similar custom built Buggy.

- Any Pre-Dyna Storm (TRF211X) or Post-Dyna Storm Competition Buggy Prototype.

However off course, If ANY of you know the or a owner willing to sell one of these cars - just ONE of these would do... Before I'd be able to buy two, I'd need to win a decent prize in a lottery...

For me its the Avante and Egress I see them want either one but think its just a pipe dream to own one

Mine is not actually RC but it is something that is haunting me ever since my stupidity caught up with me. Many years ago, no wait maaaannnyyyyy years ago I got a Tin type friction Volkswagen Beetle in red. It had all the chrome trimmings of old. From the trim line on the sides of the car to the bumpers and nice chrome dome hubcaps. It had solid rubber wheels and I remember it was really something to behold. And then the panel beater in me took over and I stripped it and took a hammer and flattened the hole body. The rest is just a bad memory. I met a guy at a Bugfest in 1990 or there about who collected all Beetle models. First time I saw the Tamiya line-up of RC Beetles. Didn't have any impact then but he said of all the 10 000 and how much Beetles that he had the one that he still needs to get was a tintype Friction Beetle...bla, blah, blaah. I said, "yeah right, I know what it looks like" and carried on with the story of my childhood stupidity. He broke down in tears when he heard the story. In serious collectors circles it was like the Holy grail of tintype VW's. He said that it was worth about ZAR15000 then. :o Yup and I flattened it 'cause I was a panelbeater. :)

That is the one I want so dearly to own again, and a NIB Clod with bowtie grille and the Chevrolet tailgate off course.

For me it was a genuine Kyosho Turbo Scorpion. Was looking for 3 years. But now I finally got lucky! Results soon to come in my showroom.

Another thing is finding a complete Tamiya Willy's Wheeler.

For me it is the Porsche RSR turbo Martini in 1/8 Scale once sold from Otaki, Eidai or Entex.

I have the plastic kit version with a body with cracked A-columns (can be fixed), but I would like to get the Lamborghini Countach of this Brand.

And to increase rarity, they have been sold with an RC chassis as well. Mark from TC has the Porsche, click here:

For me it would be a Avanti.

Evert time i see one i want it but goes for silly $$$

On top of that i want it to be a runner and its alot of money for a very Horrible handling machine that apprantly breaks too easy as well.

cool buggy, looks like a prototype to me....

It was a custom built Buggy, I believe from Japan, it has an RC10 front gearbox I believe and apart from that is practically a full custom build, that's all I know really...

that kyosho FWD buggy, the maxxum FF, can't remember the name exactly. That would of been a weird one to own.

The Kyosho Maxxum (FF) indeed. I currently have a restored version, It's now just waiting for a Repro body and decals from Tamiyoman (repro body not available yet) and similar tires as from the original (preferably repro) :) Pretty inventive rear suspension I have to say.

All of these are custom built, why noy just build your own.

You read my mind ;) I currently have an FF01 converted to a Buggy with DF01 suspension arms and 70mm shocks. I will test drive it some more to further develop the current designs I have for a custom FWD buggy :P And I'm waiting for parts to arrive from RCMart to make a good front suspension unit. I was planning to use a Dyna Storm gearbox, but the recent rumors for a new TRF 2WD buggy have me thinking whether I should ditch the current plans with the Dyna Storm gearbox and wait or not. (My buggy for financial reasons on the amount of custom parts will however probably have Double wishbone suspension on the rear).

I agree that the avante goes for stupid money but they are not as weak as people think they are. Check out Lemmings video of our last meet and see mine and his avante's jumping and taking some awkward landings

one car thats on my near impossible to find list is the Cambria Trakstar. we used to race these round like mad until the wheels fell off but it didnt matter because the kits were only around £18 each. Scalamon has one in his showroom but other than that i cant find any good examples anywhere.

Can-am Lola RM Mk1 for me. I have most of the parts for one, but it's near impossible to find all the bits to finish it.

If I bought another example, I'd probably be able to complete one car, but then I'd have enough parts that it would make me want to find the bits to put a 2nd car together...

TRF411X, I'd pay really, really stupid amounts of money for that one. But it doesn't matter, I can't find one.

I have always wanted another Tamiya Porsche 959. I had one way back when but being a kid I wrecked the thing, painted the chassis in blue paint and ended up taking it all apart when it could no longer function. All thats left of it is a few parts in my spares box and the Technigold motor currently installed into my wife's DT02.

My mum ended up throwing the suprisingly intact shell with full cockpit and lighting system in the bin when we moved house.

I have searched Ebay for Nib's or well looked after built examples but they are alway out of my price bracket :[

Maybe oneday when I find £1000+ on the floor I could buy one *fingers crossed*

The main one that eludes me is the Avante. I saw it years ago and loved the way it looked but didn't buy one because I was only 12ish and couldn't afford one. Soon after I stopped being 'into' RC's and packed my cars away. After I got back into RC's a few years ago I started jonesing after an original Sand Scorcher and an original Rough Rider but I've pretty much built one of each now. Just got the bodies to do. Then it was my current project which is a Monster Beetle and I'm hoping that I'm going to be done with that soon. So now, for me, besides an Avante it's currently a 49207 TA04-Pro Blue Collection. No one on here has one in their showroom so I only have a vaguely rough idea what it's supposed to look like because of the other TA04s I've built up over the years. I've got in my collection a standard TA04, a TA04-SS, a TA04-Pro, a TA04-R Tuned and I've even managed to put together a TA04-TRF so adding a TA04-Pro Blue to my collection would be awesome. First things first though. Gotta finish all my current projects completely.

My old cars that I had as a teenager. Nothing particularly rare, but just 'my' old cars back.

I'd pay over the odds to get any one of them back.

What I really want but I just cannot find, is part of a car. I need a brand new Kyosho Peugeot 205 Bodyshell for the FF 1/12th chassis. Does anyone have one? LMK

I'am sure once again Rayman will not mind me using his showroom entry.
