Vintage Re-release Question....

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I know this has probably been posted before, but I am new back to TC after a lapse of a few years (and it's great to be back). Anyway I was wondering what everyone feels about the Re-Release of vintage cars. Personally I really like it because now I can build a NIB Sand Scorcher for a Great price. But I guess if you spent a ton of money to get vintage parts than this might make some upset. It is nice to see everyone posting their SS NIB on the site, I read every one and you can tell how many of us are really excited about recieving theirs's in the mail (I know I was !!!)

You would think that with all the sucess of the Re-Release Frog, Hotshot,Grasshopper, Sand Scorcher etc, tamiya would also Re-release models like The Bruiser, Monster beetle, FAV, Blitzer Beetle etc....

Does anyone know if some of these very sought after models will be Re-Released?? I bet there are quite a few of us that would buy them....What do you think???

Cheers....

Dan C.

I must say that i would be tempted with a monster beetle. I am surprised that it has not been released already. How hard would it be now that the SS body is available, MB tyres are the sme as the BFextreme? and the frog is stil being produced? missed opportunity?

Which re re's could be left ?

Avante?

Fox ?

Monster Beetle?

959?

Wild One?

My credit card would get a spanking if any of these got released!!!

I think the best thing about the re-releases, is just seeing them around - they're almost the only realistic off road models to be found in most hobby shops. I find it almost funny to walk in and see the ugly modern cars, and in amongst them a few interesting models from Tamiya. I just find the rest SO boring, and the Tamiyas SO much more interesting with their individuality and great box art, I wonder how on earth "realism" and "modelling" ever became dirty words in the RC car world.

It's also been fun to pick up an RC magazine now and then, and find an article on a re-release Tamiya, especially when the magazines gush about them. It gives the impression that even some performance enthusiasts are a bit bored with the look of modern cars, and secretly wish for a return to the old days. The review of the Buggy Champ in the UK's RC Racer magazine, was absolutely brilliant and written by a true vintage enthusiast. That sort of thing might open the eyes of a new generation of kids.

Well it seems that there are enough of us that if models like the Monster Beetle, Fox etc were re released that they would sell quite a bit.....I know my credit card would take a beating as well but I wouldn't care....To have a NIB Monster Beetle shipped to my house for a good price (No offense to people selling originals) I would be so excited I couldn't stand it.....

I mean I look through my old catalogs and see the Blitzer Beetle right next to a Mad Bull..and the Mad bull is still available !!! Not that I would ever want one but I would by 3 Blitzer Beetles if I could still get them !!!!!

I see people every day posting 1, 3, 5 NIB Sand Scorchers on their site.....We love this Tamiya Stuff, for whatever reason...And I myself would really like to see more of it Re-Released......

Heck Re-Release all 1-100 models....I will buy every single one !!!!!!!!

didn't they just wreck the Monster Beetle shell mold to make the SS2010? :)

I follow RCTVLIVE on Facebook, and in one of their latest posts they are talking about a possible re release of the 58059 Porsche 959. "We were told they are looking into it.....and need to see if the molds are still good." I replied with a "Ha-ha! Who told you that?", and a few minutes later they said: "I don't see them paying to make new molds....but who knows. We have an insider that keeps us in the know".

I think it's a bit late for a April 1th joke, so now I don't know what to believe. Tamiya have already done the "unthinkable" re release of the SS......

is it possable they premade the shells beforehand.or

maybe later because they modified the mold before previously

or maybe they modified the mold in such a way

they can make either body?

Guys, this is a multi-million dollar outfit not a bloke in a shed - if they want new moulds they'll just make them!

Would love if that 959 re-re rumor were true. Especially if it come with the Technigold motor it came with back in the day. A friend had one and that thing was fast! I'd also love a re-re Fox too. Come to think of it.... just about any re-re Tamiya does from the era would gain access to my wallet.

They make new moulds all the time,

but everybody likes to save money

even mr tamiya. Its easier to start

with a mold that 85% complete.

Remember they like to interest

young people cause they'll

probley be around longer than us.

In the beginning how many 40+

year old were interested in

rough rider and sand scorchers,

frogs and hornets.

how many 60+ are tamiya enthusiest today?

most younger people will want vehicle

that are popular in thier time.(i mean 1 to 1 scale)

example: I like muscle cars from the 60's

my nephew likes hondas and nissans.

things change.

I'm sure there are fewer 60+ Tamiya RC enthusiasts, probably because RC was uncommon during their formative years.

But, Tamiya also knows there's a market for the cars that folks grew up with, and they also know the grownups generally have more disposable income than the kids. :( '

That s why my 10 year old has a boomerang and my 8 year old has a grasshopper. They were the cars i grew up with and now i have the money to buy them again.

Just my 2 cents;

I think the Avante is the only one of the "micro coffee models" they have not released to date, so that seems highly probable. This would be good because they could also they uses those tools to do a Egress relatively easily. That said it does feel like a Fox or Wild One could be on the cards next. I would lean towards the Wild One because it could also mean they could do the FAV.

I have a feeling the original Hilux is coming. I see many NIBs show up in Yahoo Japan and eBay. :(

I wouldn't say rc was uncommon.

Gotta figure they were 30 yrs old when the sand scorcher

came out.most people 60+ are into rc planes.

probley do to the popularity of real planes

when they were kids.

most kids today are into traxxas slash.so

I would imagine that will be a collector item 20 yrs

from now.

I think they just know grownups will spend

money on there kids.

If tamiya listening I hope the next rere

is the fox.Though I'm not putting any money on it.

They may go a completly different direction and put

a retro body on an updated chassis.think trf 201

with a superchamp body or something like that.

well maybe not trf but typre r version. :)

The Astute has not been done from the coffee cars either (come on Tamiya).

The Fox and the Wild One are the other two that I would personally like to see done.

I'd buy a re-release of the King Cab. I think they should re-release with a beefier trans and a brushless motor though. ESC. 2.4 etc. Or a 4WD KC would be sweet.

If only the other brands could do Re-releases as well!!! It's awesome!!!

Would anybody be so kind as to list the full re-release list so far?

I wouldn't be too surprised to see the Fox and Wild One make an appearance. Both are from the same "golden age of plastic cars" as many of the re-releases, and both were popular. And we haven't really seen many 2WD vehicles from that era come back.

The thing about those two is that there weren't that many cars released on that chassis. So if they bring them back they can only use the tooling for 1 or 2 releases.

Which is why they should re-re the Supershot. They already have all the tooling.

Besides, I've spend way too much on rebuilding my Supershot to dare run it and I want a runner.
