I was on here a couple of months ago getting advice for a good performance off road racing car. With a lot of thought and advice i decided on a Db01r.Unfortunately i bottled out of ordering 1 because there is a lot of talk at work of strikes and job losses.

So for now until i find out whats happening at work i bought a cheep 2nd hand baja champ off e bay.I have heard some good things about these cars and i am sure it will give me some fun until i buy a Db01.

I won the bidding tonight so hopefuly it will come before the end of the week.

Welcome to the wonderful world of TL01B goodness. Great bashers these. You keeping it stock, or have some mods in mind?

Can heartily recommend sticking a HPI 'Cuda shell on it, or any 200mm body shell for that matter

Only things i am thinking of doing is putting a slightly faster motor in it and fitting ballbearings.

I will have to check the Cuda shell out.

Thanks Gruntfuggly for pointing out my silly mistake. I am a bit tired i have been working nights last 1 tonight for a few weeks thank god.

Anyway i am really pleased with my car.It has hardly been used since it was built and it also came with a few extra things that the seller never listed.

The only thing missing was the antenna pipe and the little plastic holder for the antenna pipe.

This is my sons car that i will be racing against as soon as i get hold of the antenna pieces.

Looks to be in nice condition - hardly run judging by the tyre wear!

Do you know if it's been ball-raced? If not, then I'd definitely recommend that as a first upgrade. Some oil dampers will improve the handling too...

those tyres are usually bald by about 5th pack

yes full bearings are a must (24pcs 1150)

when new if the pair of bronze 1150 bushings were over-greased they'll often seize & melt the chassis/gearbox

if keeping the shocks open them up and toss the rubber tubing. It'll be either rockhard or a mushy mess by now.

FUN in capitols this buggy! :) You don't even have to spend a lot of dough to have a lot of fun. A sport tuned motor and oilies with ball bearings of course and you will have a lot of fun. One of the best and cheapest fun bashers out there.

Good luck at work too, hope all turns out well for you there.

Great basher buggy there. Be careful if wanting a high kv BL motor. I've been told, and experienced myself, that you cant get low enough gearing.

Get ballbearings and a set of better dampers and go have FUN!

Here's mine:

Yeah Racing dampers:

...and you might add a skidplate to protect battery and motor:

Hi see from your first pic, that you ran it with an 8.5t brushless, did you have many problems? Like the idea of a skidplate, that should save the motor from any stones etc

D'oh cancel the above just seen your other post lol

I first ran it with a EZRun 8.5T on 50% punch and lowest timing but the motor and ESC fried. It *might* be because I didn't check what was behind a jump.... (a small "lake") The car ran ok for a pack after it was drowned and then died. Motors internal plastics melted. I then ran a Castle Creations Mamba Max 5700 kv and this motor died as well. Guys at CC tested it and couln't find out why it died so I got a replacement for free. I woun't risk that one though. That's why I'll test an EZRun 13.5T next...

With a BL motor the skidplate is highly recomended. Just make the "flaps" in front of the battery go higher up than I did.

Wow! you are like kryptonite to these BL combos! lol. That does stink that you went through that much monies' worth of electronics though..

I picked up the hobby after 15 odd years or so and discovered there had been "some" development.... I just had to learn the new stuff about BL and Li-Po. I go by the thought that "This will work"..., but it doesn't every time..

Bearing set is the 1st thing i am buying for it and then in a few weeks when i get paid upgrading the motor to a 23 turn motor.Maybe some decent dampers later.

I havnt got any big plans for this car it is just to have fun with racing my son and his mates.

I give it a spin today once i sorted out the antenna problem.

The suspension worked better than i expected. When i 1st inspected the dampers they felt a bit hard and i expected the car to spend a lot of time on its roof but it cushioned the rough terrain ok.

It kept up with my sons car ok probably the same acceleration and top speed.

Great fun slipping around on wet tarmac aswell.Love it definately not disapointed.

My only concerns with the car is it sounds a bit rattley( if thats a word) is this normal?

When i have driven other tamiya models in the past the only noise i can hear is the motor.

This is the problem i suppose when you buy a car someone else built.Always wondering if they put it together with as much care as i would.

Had loads of fun today racing my son and his mate.I feel like a kid again.

This afternoon i couldnt get my car off my son.He said his car looks better but the Baja Champ is much more fun.

I feel bad now i should have got him a tamiya for christmas.

Just ordered a full 24pc bearing kit for my baja champ and also i am going to sort out the steering tomorrow.

The guy that built it must have attached the steering parts to the servo when it wasnt in the neutral position.I could get it to go almost in a straight line with the trim all the way to the left.
