Nice! Would love to see some pictures of this!! Did you find it in a kit or as a spare?

It was definitely in one of my NIB Super Champs. I posted about it once, way back (here is that thread). I used to have pictures, but can't seem to find them...would have to get the kit out and take some more. But it's definitely a red version of the normal black bag, but doesn't have any writing on it (but neither does the one in the catalogue pic, seemingly). It's not just a "balloon".

Also, I think I had a second one in the kit, but it was melted/broken when I received the kit. So the first one has been preserved <_<

I know one other member who found one also, and has used it on his Super Champ recently. I only saw a photo of this one, but in his words "must be an original part as it fitted perfect". So it could be the same.

I have this vintage Dune Buggy Chassis by Tamiya, kit no. 7049. The kit includes a two speed transmission, factory assembled gear box with sterrable front wheels and rubber like tires. It has a roll bar, drive gears, gear shift lever, buggy tires, UM3 battery box, a front bumper and an Ackermann steering system. I have not seen any others around here on the club.

I have one of these too! ;) It's a beautiful little kit. And you're right, it is quite difficult to find now. It took me quite a long time to locate one.

I actually had many memories of reading the 1987 Tamiya catalogue, and while the RC pages were the best, I also liked the pages about the little educational kits, especially since many of them were introducing car concepts - 4WD, Front wheel drive, Formula 1, etc, and of course Dune buggy. The thing I loved about it was how (somehow in my young mind) I imagined this Dune Buggy was like a "lost" little brother to the RC cars, but one that never made it to RC level. I guess I was just obsessed with Tamiya buggies.

This kit was later re-released with different parts and different box art - not as nice (and the later version is of course, much more common).

cheers,

H.

A new-ish parts tree of the Audi Quattro rallye with the driver and spotlights on it. That must be about it. Maybe also the little box from the Bullhead kit that has the motor and other metal parts in. ;)

Many nice items ;) Vanquish and SRB Sand Rover are particularly impressive.

I do have 2 complete sets of Jet hopper tyres new in the packets, though.

Very rare indeed, though I must be lucky as I have lots of those :D However Raymond, I can say...

...this is one you have, that I think nobody else has. This Porsche was made by Yonezawa and sold in D i c k Smith stores here in 1986. Yours is the only example I have ever seen on the internet.

I have a silver/grey nylon Tamiya Off Roader Trak Pak bag that came with my Fox bundle (kit, battery, charger, Acoms radio and bag) when it was bought new in 1986.

It is the same dimensions as the more common canvas Tamiya RC Bag but did not have the plastic insert to make a small lower section.

I have not seen another one since the late 80's but would like to get hold of another as mine now has several holes and the screen printed logo is very warn.

This would be my rarest vehicle. A scratch built sand scorcher with an MIP 4 wheel drive kit.

Do you ever run this? I have only ever seen one other MIP 4wd conversion and again that was pristine. I would love to know if they are any good did they ever win anything back in the day?

Your a lucky man, not that you would but my guess would be a price tag of £1,000 - £1,500 GBP to the right person should you ever sell it.

If your talking about the one I had, that was also Jim's. All totally NIB when I got it. From what I've heard the MIP stuff was quite fragile on the track and the drivers spent allot of time retrieving parts after races. Those UJs relied on thin flexible plastic discs which were all that bridged the drive shaft and hub shaft. I think they would have barely lasted a race which is why I never ran mine in the end, even though I was just SO curious as to how it would drive. All the used parts are probably buried around old tracks now.

Having said all that I miss it, and still search ebay for that stuff alot. Tiny bits and pieces pop up now and then but not full sets of late.

as you can see form the pics it's ready to run and I sort of ran it. Just a quicky in the street around my house but never in the offroad. The speedo cable connecting the two transmissions has a fair amount of drag. The later chain drive was improvement. I have the parts to do a conversion but staid with the cable as it's more vintage

Parts for these are just unobtainium and when you do see them, they go for several hundred dollars.

For some reason I just can't resist posting on this topic, but I'm here to show off, so I figured why not? :);)

First up is my random find in Jason's store -- Listed only minutes before I snapped them up, I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw them listed at the same price the normal 53155 'pink' dampers are typically sold at :o Believe I've posted these before, but here they are again:

I've actually collected most of the touring car dampers Tamiya has made, including all of the TA03 'Super Low Friction' dampers, with one exception: I have never seen the #49069 Blue set in any condition. (PLEASE email me if you know of a set! )

My absolute rarest item is probably the 49578 'Super White' TA02 chassis tub; I have it posted in my showroom here.

Never seen another like it, and believe me, I've looked! :D

I do have a pair of Blue Low Friction or Super Low Friction Dampers on one of my project cars (they are unused), but I don't know if it was the #49069 - I think it's more likely that the dampers are actually a limited event release (Sold in Japan only and often sold on ebay by Jason's Store - The dampers are just in a bag and a clean white label without anything printed on it) as one of the sets I bought was. Here it is:

Anyhow... I thought and thought... thinking everything I have is also owned by someone else... But that's not true! :D I do have something nobody else has; Nimrod Racing Dyna Storm Rear Wheels, Custom made to fit the original Spire Spike Tires!

And of course it's showroom entry (with the new and clear body back on it). Nimrod Racing mentioned it would be the only set of it they would ever make, and it's a lovely feeling that they are owned by me ;):o

There are a few differences between the two; The 'Super Low Friction' dampers have the teflon pistons and guides, mirror polished inner bore, and a painted set of springs.

I bought a set of the blue event release dampers, but they are identical to the 49037 'low friction' shocks. I thought about doing a mock-up of the 49069 set with the blue bodies, but since I never have seen a picture of them, I don't even know what color springs they came with! It's been a question I've trying to answer for years now... :):o

I do recall that one set of the dampers came with gold painted springs (the red or the blue set, I don't know) - I changed them for these silver ones ;) I don't know about the inside, I just assembled them and poured in the damper oil :P

Anyway, I didn't know Tamiya made so many different types of a damper that on the outside essentially looks the same :P

most likely the blue shocks were part of a special TFR version kit originally then as tamiya does released very limited onto the parts market, tamiya always puts in a weird colored set with high end kits the Ta03F TRF came with Gold colored parts, and the ta03R trf came with Blue colored parts.

In my parts bin i know i have the pink and gold verisons of those shocks, and i know i've seen the Blue ones somewhere else, but i just can't place it at the moment. i keep thinking maybe they came on some TT-01 kits?

ah i think i just remembered i have a ta-05 kit with blue shocks, i think its called TRF hard black coated or something...?

Make no mistake --The 49069 dampers are not the same as any of the later released sets. They are of the 'Super Low Friction' series, and were made for the TA03 cars.

Here is a complete list I have compiled for that particular series:

53280 Super Low Friction Set, Gold

49069 Super Low Friction Set, Blue

49070 Super Low Friction Set, Purple

49089 Super Low Friction Set, Metallic Black

49099 Super Low Friction Set, Blue and Silver

49100 Super Low Friction Set, Pink and Silver

I have all of these except for the BLUE!!!

You can tell the difference on the outside; The painted springs are an obvious indication, but you can also see the white colored teflon guide peeking out from the bottom cap. I can see in your picture that the guide is made of regular black plastic, telling me it is a standard 'Low Friction' damper.

Only the recent 'event release' damper sets have the gold springs. They are the same that were included in the Lancia 037 re-release and possibly a few other later TA03 kits.
