Ok, so as always, I'm scanning the web for good Tamiya bargains. I come upon this deal:

"125.00 ko pro po servo s f201 4 wheel drive indie car thats so fast, with a lot of hop ups like steel diff alum, rockers alum, shocks heveay duty arms front and back, all the HD BRACES that go on the bulk heads 3 motors a 15 turn and black sports tuned and a stonk plus a novak pro no moter limet ESC and a traxxa 2.4GHZ radio this car is ready to go and it comes with a extra airtronic servo that sell new for 75.00!!! plus look at at all the spair parts that come with it AND!! I HAVE an extra body new in the bag with wing and nose i will include."

$80 bucks takes it all. It's tempting, although I'm not sure where I'll be able to run this type of car.

80 dollars seems very cheap to me, IF the car doesn't need parts replaced and all electronics are in good order :)

Trust me - being tempted by offers just because they seem too good a price to turn down just ends up with you having a lot of RC cars in storage which you don't use. And will that make you happy - probably not! If you've nowhere to run it then leave the bargain for someone else - you'll only end up selling it again - and do you really need the hassle?! Save your cash for something you genuinely want.

$80 for a ready to run Tamiya F201 with extras and upgrades is an easy good deal... remember, these F1s are 4wd, so you can run them wherever you would normally run a touring car.

I personally would pick it up, give it a try, and if it's not your thing, then take some better photos and sell it on.

Failing that, get it and send it to me, and I'll pay you $80 plus post :o:)

That's a great price for a lot of F201 fun. I have tons of the cars, so I don't need it, but I do think they are a lot of fun to mess with.

$80 is a deal. Try it, you might really like the F201. I do.

A lot of good advice here. Still on the fence about it.

The same guy has a Subaru 2008 WRC shell which I can paint up and put on my DF03 RA for $30 and a TA03F with Alfa Romeo body for $40. The draw on the F201 is all of the electronics it comes with. I can easily swap out this esc and motor into another car when I need it. The TA03 I would just get for comparison with the DF03RA. I might just leave it until I get there tomorrow. I'll bring enough to either buy the Impreza shell and the TA03F or just F201, but not the whole lot.

Buy it & then sell it on. You should make money on it, or raid the electrics for another project sell it & you should still get more than what you paid for it. It's a good price. They are fun to drive though, you may like it.

+1000 I can't begin to tell you how many things I've ended up with just cause it was a good deal and I had a balance in my paypal account. Honetly and I'll probably get roasted for it but those F201's suck big time. I have a fully hopped up one that i ran around for a while. I just couldn't get the gearing right and the 17turn motor would overheat constantly. It now sits in a box with all the other F-1 cars I don't use.

+2000 stay away from deals outside of what you want to collect, i made a few mistakes like that as well. +1 also on the F201 handling it stunk, i mean it was a 10000000 times better then the older F1s that were only RWD. but the F201 basically fits into no current racing class parts are a pain and its basically a Shelf queen, especially the TFR carbon version. i made the mistake of getting into Onroad pan car collecting just because it seemed like a deal at the time, I really had no interest in it at all and i'm stuck with them now.

Since I don't race them, I quite enjoy my F201's. My 5700 brushless "TRF" version handles great. Better than most of my other cars... Except maybe the 415TRF. It has sticky tires on it and ALL hopups, including alloy A-arms. Lots of fun and infinitely adjustable.

True, finding parts is harder, but there are still a lot of parts available on ebay.

Agreed though, if you don't really *want* the chassis, doesn't matter what it is, don't get it.

So I actually passed on it. turned out that it was not the same seller selling all 3 things I talked about in the start of the post. Only the Impreza shell and the TA03F were for sale by the guy that I saw today. I could have pursued the F201, but I think you guys are right. Might have been a novelty for me for a bit and then just bored me. Although the electronics in it were pretty tempting. I just picked up the Impreza shell for my DF03RA and am looking forward to painting it up. I actually can't wait until people start stocking the Datsun shell. It looks pretty sweet.

So rather than start another post, I decided to piggy back on my older post because it's the same question: Is this a good deal?

Up for sale near me is an apparently original Porsche Turbo 934 RSR kit from 1976. The guy claims everything is original and not a re-release. Problem is, I can't tell if the guy is being honest or just very desperate for cash. In our email correspondence he noted that his mortgage is past due and he's in danger of getting foreclosed on if he doesn't come up with some cash quick. I'd love to help the guy out if he's being honest, both about his problem and the authenticity of the kit. I'd also love to own a piece of Tamiya history. Question is, what do you think this kit should go for if it's genuine? Can't find any on ebay. And also, does anyone know how to tell if it is real?

Colour of the plastic material of the body can give you an idea but doesn't rule out if it's original or not, but more importantly, the parts number(s) on at least the main body (and maybe the small parts as well). Take a good look at the mint examples in the TC showrooms to see how the shell and chassis looks when complete, get the parts numbers from the original shell of the 934 and go visit the seller I'd say ;)

Had a look through the showrooms, but I'm not sure what to look for really. No one really specifies whether or not their kit is original. Maybe I'm just not searching right. The search only yielded 33 results and it seemed that that most of them were TT. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the page you are looking for: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/car.asp?id=1

Click the 'Members' Rides' tab to see examples.

The only re-release kit that came with a styrene body was the re-re 'Black' 934 kit: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/car.asp?id=943

The common TT releases only included a Lexan body, with a completely new and modern design chassis. If the guy has an original with re-re parts, they can only be the body pieces that have been moulded in black polystyrene. The only chassis pieces that have been re-re'd is the W parts tree that contains the driver: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...24&sid=2400

So the 934 was never reproduced in it's original form? -The seller gives a list of things to look for, but he could have authored these things himself according to what he had. Here is what he says:

** How to Identify an Original c.1976 Tamiya Porsche Turbo RSR 934 **

An original c.1976 issue of this kit is a little harder to identify than most early Tamiya kits. Even reissues use the same box art, so at first glance, there are two key things to look for. First, look at the corners of the boxtop. If they are stapled, rather than glued, you have an early kit. Also, first issue kits were Pre - Bar Code. If you see a Bar Code, the kit is a later issue.

<< the corners are STAPLED and there is NO BARCODE! >>

The Tamiya address on the corner of the box will read 628, Oshika, Shizuoka-City, Japan.

<< It shows the CORRECT ADDRESS for cir. 1976 >>

Internally, original kits and later re-issues are nearly identical. A few subtle differences are the Silver painted parts tree in the original kit will have a slightly dull appearance. Re-issue kits have "Silver" painted trees with a very bright Chrome appearance.

<< The silver parts have a DULL appearance! >>

The original issue kit will have a 4 digit date code in the lower left front cover of the instruction booklet of 7701 (January 1977).

<< 7701 appears on the instruction booklet! >>

The original decal sheet is printed on "White" decal paper, and on the rear is a date code of '76 11' (November 1976). Re-issue decals are identical, but are printed on "Blue" decal paper and are not date coded.

<< Decals are on WHITE paper, DATED and in MINT condition! >>

As with many Tamiya kits of this era, beware of Tire Degradation (i.e.; a mild case of tire-melt to all 4 tires). A set of replacement Front & Rear "Slick" Goodyears and a second set of "Treaded" Dunlops can be found on the internet but the cost is very high.

<< These tires are still in MINT condition! >>

These are specs for the 1/12 STATIC model... Not the RC model!!!

7701 is the part number for the static model kit, and not 58001 which was sold as 'Suitable for Radio Control'.

The static kits have been re-released, and the information the seller provided is cut and pasted from this eBay guide: http://reviews.ebay.com/1-12-Tamiya-Porsche-Turbo-RSR-Type-934-Collectors-Guide_W0QQugidZ10000000007353737 ://http://reviews.ebay.com/1-12-Tamiya...00000007353737

Coincidentally this guide was written buy a Tamiya Club member, so I suspect it is a fairly accurate review of the static kit releases.

I'm taking the award for biggest fool this week. No, I insist. I deserve it. Here I thought I was on the threshold of owning a piece of history, only to realize that I'm a fool who needs to learn how to read better. I'm going to crawl into a hole. Tamiya's first rc didn't come out until '77 right?

if you can pick up the static model kit for around $100 then all you would have to do is pic up a chassis. most used 934's have a hammered body as the hard plastic doesn't hold up to curbs and retaining walls very well.

Yeah the static model is being sold for $250. I guess because it's original. The rere models are going for around $150. I'm going to shelve this whole thing I guess.
