Hi,

I really fancy buying/building a Clod as I always wanted one in my youth. I want some speed and fancy the challange of upgrading the clod over time. What is the simplest way to increase speed performance and what is realisticaly feasible? Is it possible to install a twin brushless setup (nothing too extreme) or just get the lowest turn esc and run Y connectors for zero advance brushed motors?

I know i could just buy a emax or revo just wondered what motor options there are for the clod.

Cheers

Do it! You'll eventually end up replacing every part of it except the gearboxes (which are invincible) with aftermarket parts, and you'll spend a small fortune by the time all is said and done, but your RC life isn't complete until you've built, trashed, rebuilt, upgraded, trashed again, upgraded some more, and finally retired a Clod Buster.

The gearboxes will handle anything short of a Hemi V8; but the rest of the truck will eventually have to go if you start adding horsepower. Steering first, then suspension links, then main chassis. With something like an ESP chassis, or one of the crawler chassis available now, the sky is the limit.

But build it and drive it completely box-stock first. It's quite an experience.

Speed and performance do not belong in the same sentence as Clodbuster. If you want brushless speed with good performance just buy a Traxxas.

Not to dis the Clod by any means, but I just don't see it holding up under the high speed abuse that a brushless system will make possible. It was never designed for it. If I can destroy a thick Lexan shell on a bone stock BRUSHED E-Maxx I wouldn't bet a nickel on the hard bodied Clod lasting more than a few battery packs under brushless power.

Just my 2 cents worth. ;)

Im a tamiya man through and through, but when it comes to basher's traxxas are my favorite, i have a stampede and a slash with a 8.5t ezrun brushless setup fitted and there great and very tough, having had an e-maxx before i would say the traxxas would be better suited to brushless punishment.

If you want a scale 80s looking monster truck with dated ride and handling then the clod is your bag. Any sort of desire for modern performance requires lots of money to be thrown at it. Traxxas however is the way to go for performance. Brushless stampede will be great value compared to a modified clod. As you mentioned Traxxas I assume you arnt into crawling, which the clod once modded is awesome at. Ergo Traxxas stampede or emax is the best way to go. A clod is for the love of it.
