I had recently upgraded my silver can to the sport tuned motor but the speed demon inside me was just not quite content. Just ordered myself the EZRUN 8.5t brushless setup. Problem is I don't have a wheelie bar at the moment and was thinking of building up a custom one. Anyone on here have any ideas on where to start with this one?

Cheers ;)

thanks guys, I ended up ordering a new wheelie bar (backordered though) I'll for sure customize it though :-) thanks for the ideas, both look great

put the EZRUN 8.5T brushless setup in my LB last night, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Trucks is just super nuts now, HUGE HUGE difference over the Sport Tuned I put in last month. Truck is absolutely ballistic now. Can't wait for that **** wheelie bar on back order ;)

Got my wheelie bar working good today with a little bit of drilling and such. I used two model airplane wheels, they are aluminum and rubber, and some other bits to get it all mounted. Seemed to work pretty good

I'll be interested to see how long the gears last running the brushless motor. I have been running a 14turn brushed motor in my LB since the start of the year & its has just chewed up the gears. Also the strain on the wheely bar caused the original gearbox case to split around all of the screw holes.

I have decided to tone it down now witth a 21 turn motor.

one very nice thing about the EZRUN system is that it allows you to put a delay on the reverse to forward so that help with the gnashing of the teeth. So far so good honestly and I abuse the **** out of my Lunch Box and drive it at least 2x's daily. So far the list of broken parts is:

1. original shell.

2. Right front A arm

3. numerous body mounts, I have now installed the parma body mounts in the rear as you can see from the picture I believe.

4. Steering servo mount and steering servo. I fabricated a metal mount from some aluminum I picked up at a local hardware store.

5. Front wheels..numerous times. They last about 2 days before I end up breaking them doing something silly after doing things that don't break them but should. Go figure.

6. Original friction shocks.

7. more things i can't think of right now but that gear box is seemingly not breakable. I think the key thing is not to be "gassing" it when you land from a jump =)

another thing is I'm only running a 7.2 volt 4000 mAh battery. i was thinking of modding it to take either a 8.4v Battery or just simply going LIPO but the faster it goes the faster it breaks so I've decided in sticking with the 7.2 =)

wow, very annoying! add something from the gearbox to the list. Incredibly I was just tooling around and I here a distinct "clicking" sound coming from the truck. Mind you I wasn't abusing it at all here!

I may have tweaked it though over the weekend when it was raining out and I was driving it indoors and I'm not admitting to the wheels getting locked up briefly in a blanket! B)

You are right, the LB is only good upto a certain speed. After that you break something almost every time you run it. I find with a bit less power the wheelies are longer too.

I noticed last night when stripping down the gearbox thet there was an excessive ammount of play in the small bearing in the counter gear. This I believe has also contributed to the cogs slipping, I have new gears to put in but I'm now wating on a new bearing.

To be fair to the LB, this is the first gearbox rebuild i have done & i have had the car since 1989!

I bought replacement gears and a new pinion from eBay. I did a tear down of the rear end just about an hour ago and I only ended up replacing the pinion gear. The gears in the transmission where fine just cleaned them up a bit and re-greased. The pinion wasn't really noticeably worn but everything is working as it should again =) woot!

I take my hat off to you running a LB with an 8.5t EZrun! I have a 9t in my fire dragon and its mad :) The hornet I guess is about as stable as a LB and with a GT tuned motor mine is on its roof more than its wheels :D

How long do you get from your 4000 battery btw? My Mtronics 3700 seems pretty poor, I think I'm getting about ten mins max.

I get between 30-40mins from my 4000 mAh 7.2 volt. It runs just about as long as it did when i was running the Tamiya esc with the sport tuned motor. I'll see if I can get a video of it tooling around the yard too in the next few days.
