Hi Folks,

Just thought you'd like to know that the 2010 Retro Racers vintage buggy series at Hinckley Radio Control Car Club (HRCCC) in Leciestershire is back for the Spring/Summer season.

If you missed us last season, here's the details:

When

Every Saturday afternoon from now until September.

People start turning up from 11:15 to help lay the track and book in. Racing starts approx. 13:00 with a 18:00 finish (all packed away).

Where

On HRCCC's excellent outdoor grass track at John Cleveland College, Hinckley (Leics). Here's the HRCCC address for further directions:

http://www.hinckleyrccc.co.uk/index.htm

Cost

Just £7 a race meeting for non-members or £6 for members (annual membership fee is £16 inc. BRCA insurance).

Class

The Retro Racers series is open to all, whether you're a novice or national racer. The class is orientated towards having fun rather than serious racing. You can race any 2WD or 4WD electric buggy or truck that was first released pre 1996 (this includes subsequent re-released models (e.g. Frog, Hornet, Hotshot etc.) or chassis variants). The motor must be a sealed silver can 27T motor as typically found in Tamiya kits - for example Mabuchi RS540SH. You can use either 7.2V NiCd/NiMh sub C cells or 7.4V 2S LiPo (hard cased only).

If you have any questions - just ask.

Facilities

There are light refreshments available, large pitting areas, a Club Car (available for use free of charge - ask for details) and a mobile model shop.

More Information

Here's a YouTube link of the racing from last season...

So if you're interested and would like to give your vintage runner a race - come and join us at HRCCC.

Cheers

James

You must of been reading my mind James, as I was wondering today when the vintage racing would be starting.

I will hopefully be able to make a few meet`s this summer.

To anyone who hasnt been for the vintage racing, get it in you know it makes sense!

Hi Olly,

Bummer :) ...but on the birght side; what better way to spend your holiday than racing at Hinckley?

Let me know when you're intending to pop along and I'll make sure I'm there.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Sorry it's taken a while to reply - I've been without my PC whilst it was being up-graded.

It'd be great to see you and your mates on the 19th - fingers crossed the weather will be nice.

Cheers

I will be attending on July 3rd - so long as there is racing that day.

I really hope it doesn't pee down and get called off as the 3rd is the only Saturday I can get off for the forseeable future :)

Will be good to see you guys again.

If its not torrential rain tomorrow i'm hoping to come along and have a race... Jammer - do you know if its still going ahead - I imagine the track could be waterlogged??

I've got my old RC10 & my mate's got a B3... though they've both got 6.5 brushless motors so we'll have to join the regular 2wd class ;)

Don't do it mate - save your time and effort as there is no racing at Hinckley this weekend ( Saturday 28th August ). If you go you'll be there alone whatever the weather!! If you can make the following weekend ( Sat 4th September ) it's the last of the outdoor season and the last chance to run those off-roaders before we all go inside for the winter and race on-road cars.

Thanks Eddystone.... I've only just read your post, was just about to leave! Typical isn't it, i've been poised to come along now for a few weeks now, but thunderstorms & rain has put us off, fingers crossed for September's meeting :-) Ps; I don't suppose indoor buggy racing could be considered?

Glad you read it in time - just!! On some of the wet weekends this summer we have taken the buggy racing indoors into the school sports hall and raced on mixed surface of carpet and polished floor. Complete with our wooden jumps and table tops this made for an interesting combination of grip levels. I know the club did trial running an indoor buggy class, can't remember now if it was last winter or the one before but take up was low and it got dropped. They would consider it again if enough club members wanted it and raced in it. Why not source yourself a cheap on-road chassis - TT-01 is perfect and join us for this winter's Quicksilver class. Good fun racing with a stock 540 motor limit as a leveller. The best drivers end up at the front rather than the ones with the fattest wallets!

Yes we've raced a fair few times at Hinckley during the winter with my tourer, but i've only recently got up & running with an off-roader and haven't managed to get over to sample the out-door track yet (though I remember racing at the outdoor track at the youth club many moons ago)

When touring car racing was in its infancy I used to love indoor racing with a buggy.... i'm sure with the current popularity for off-road now, with the right publicity you could attract enough drivers - but then there are probably enough classes already?

Sorry mate - I'm absolutely useless at putting forum names and real time faces together. I'll have to get you a DerbyDan hat to wear and I'll probably still not link the two!! If you can make the last off-road meeting of the season this weekend then it'll hopefully be a good one - weather permitting ofcourse. I know the club are hoping for a good turn out to finish the season and the BBQ should be up and running for some grub as well. Can't make it to race myself as I'm working but I will try and get over there for a burger at least! Remember you can always check out the clubs own webpage HERE for latest information and also a race calendar HERE.

Finally got to race at Hinkley's off road track yesterday.... Its typical that its your last meeting outside for this year! We enjoyed the nice relaxed atmosphere & a tasty burger! Rather chuffed with my 3rd in the A .... not bad for a 17 year old RC10! (I think it suits grass tracks better than Astroturf) Roll on next year for more off roading, though i'm sure we'll be over during the winter for some T.C fun ;-) Ps; shame there was no 'retro racing' yesterday?

Hi Dan,

Pity all the vintage boys were away this week, but I'm glad you made it down and had a good time. Let us know when you're coming down next.

Cheers bud
