Very odd. I wonder how Tamiya marketing decided this was a good idea? My best guess would be for pleasing the RTR crowd.

I was looking at towerhobbies.com and ran across the, Exclusive Edition Tamiya Buggy Champ Off-Road Buggy Kit, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti00...=LXZXB9&P=7 Anyone here anything about this? I just bought a new buggy champ last night to keep my new sand scorcher company.

Its just tamiya's way of selling more kits. Got to admit, those marketing guy's are good. They know how to make that chedder$$. B)

So there's no picture of this up yet. How'd you guys figure it was gold?

Under "Features" in the Tower page:

Body: Molded plastic painted in Tamiya TS-84 Metallic Gold lacquer

with helmeted driver figure

Now it just says:

plastic body, ESC, tires, wheels, oil-filled shocks, metal roll bar

decals, 20T and 15T pinion gears and instruction manual

What is wrong with gold

Yes, but that's painted so at least looks like Gold :)

I see from the pics that you fancy the expensive whiskey.

I spent a couple of minutes examining the pic for reflection of a whiskey bottle, but, nope, I give up

I am not much of a photographer, some of the other photos came out grainy, so using macro which doesn't come out badly, I did this close up. It is good to have some detail in there, this was close at hand. It could have easily been a Cognac which I prefer  I make my own now though, so no brand name on it!

BTW, you can just use the bodyshell and the parts from the tree you want in chrome, like the roof, which is a must in my opinion, then the rest you can easily strip like all Tamiya plated plastics to brand new and finish in your own way. Dishwasher not recommended by me, although others like it, but you can use caustic soda, which whips it off in seconds.

Paul.

PS : Looking at the whole set picture, I would certainly use the body, the roof, the dash and both sides of the spots, which would look great, as spots can be in chrome. The driver and the wheel you can leave, but I did the whole tree, as it is easy to strip if you want to and gives people the option to have a T-1000 driving their Buggy Champ

Johnny Walker Blue Label. top Shelf Scotch, even for a blended. If I could afford $150 a bottle, I'd give it a spin.

Single cask Malts are great, but whilst they can be complex, blends are often superb drinks and surprisingly consistent over the years. Grand Marque Champagnes are almost always a blend of grapes, some of the best Cognacs are a blend of casks from the same house over many years, giving 100 year old barrels the chance to exist in a bottle that is affordable (well, at least one that doesn't need Christies or Sotherby's to sell it)

OK, well I have really derailed this thread now...

Was looking at Tower Hobbies' website a few minutes ago and came across a "Tamiya 1/10 Buggy Champ Kit Exclusive Edition " which Tower has for preorder and lists an ETA of September. The only thing I see being different is that the kit comes with a pre-painted body - "Molded plastic painted in Tamiya TS-84 Metallic Gold lacquer with helmeted driver figure". I have not seen any mention of this kit on Tamiya USA's website. Anyone have any additional info on this?

EDIT: My bad - I didn't realize this had already been started as a topic. I apologise. Mods - please feel free to delete this topic. Next time I'll search before I post. Don't know how I missed the original....
