Hi

My first post here on TC Forum!

I have a re-realease Hornet that I have Hopped up with an Mtroniks RV11 ESC and a 15 Turn motor. It really flies!!

Does any one know if there are some tyres to fit the Hornet rims that will give better traction on tarmac/ashphalt.

As it uses the vintage style style hubs I am having trouble finding some different wheels.

So either a conversion kit from vintage hubs to 12mm hex (I have only seen this the other way round! :) ) or a new set of wheels and tyres??

Anyone done this before?

Thanks.

Welcome to TC :)

The obvious choice would be the Subaru Brat rear wheels & tyres as they are a direct fit on the Hornet hubs, and coming from the same period, look similar.

Failing that, Tamiya part number 53913 (Aluminum Wheel Adapter) will let you use wheels with the more common 12mm hub fitment ;)

Grasshopper with Brat wheels/tires - I think they work great and bolt right on.

Hornet with HPI 12mm hex adapters - 2.0 Prolines on DT-02 wheels in back; Tamiya QD wheels up front with standard touring car rubber.

Hi Stevepic

I'm also new and have done the 12 mm hex conversion on my Grasshopper (check my post).

Got some special tarmac tyres which give it great grip (especially compared to 25-year old originals).

Here's a picture.

The street tires really make it stable - as stable as any Hornet ever can be that is. :)

Finding that QD wheels fit on the front was a fluke. Just happened to try them one day out of curiosity and they fit!

Hey, I have a re-re-Hornet too.

I just ordered a set of Brat wheels & tires , and am glad to see that they slide right on.

I'm also wishing the front tires I have from my old F.A.V. were in better condition so I could use them on asphalt.

Hi Stevepic,

Check out the attachment and following link; http://www.ultimatetraxxas.com/projects/cool-cat/

Wheels are Dyna Storm with Pro-line 4 rib buggy tyres on the front and Traxxas Bandit or Pro-line road rage rears. The tamiya wheel hex adaptor is also required. I have fitted this combination to my Hornet but I haven't run it so I can't advise on performance. I am also undecided about the cars appearance as those large wheels don't really look right with thoses tiny little front shocks :) .

Singleseven

Hi all!

Thanks for the replies I was hoping that they would do a 12mm adaptor so thanks for the part ref.

Also interesting about the Brat wheels as never thought about using them.

I have used the dynablaster wheels and found that the hpi v groove tyre goes on and gives great road grip. I used it

on a itzer beetle and it works well. As they are also 12mm hex that might be a strong contender.

So thanks again for the replies

regards

Steve
