I bought my son a Lunchbox for his birthday & after the first outing both the springs for the trailing arm setup broke. I dont want to replace with the same cos they will probably end up broken after a few jumps as well. Anybody got any alternatives? I was thinking of getting my mate to knock up some heavy duty 1s at his works or is there a better solution?

If you have broken the coils springs in the pivot blocks you have over tightened the screw that holds them in place and pinched the spring to the last coil.

I've never broken one and have a 5700Kv MambaMax on Li-Po punching on them (standing backflip amounts of power).

Add a small tube over the screw to give the spring something to pivot on and you will never break another. This shows where to add the tube so the screw cannot be overtightened and pinch the spring:

Interesting idea Mark. Do you do jumps with it & give it a decent bashing? My son wont be killing his by any stretch of the imagination but the 1st springs broke cos we built a small ramp in the garden. I think I will try it before I go for the 3rd shock idea. I like simple fixes!!

That's very interesting Mark - I bet that's how everyone (inlcuding me!) ends up with broken springs!

Regarding the third shock mod, I must say that the brackets which Tamiya include in the LB kit for oil shock upgrades come in very handy for the third shock mounts - neither of my 2 LBs have oil shocks fitted apart from the 3rd shock (small Ansmann damper unit). We actually have 3LBs in our family, but my son's is stock (with those broken springs!)
