OH SNAP How did I miss that? :)

I was going to order another M04 I guess I will hold off ..until M06 is announced!

I don't mean to wizz on anyones fireworks but that says M05. The odd metalic blue M05 font makes it look like a 6 in all of the photos from the show.

Its a bit more clear in this photo...

There is no way a m06 will be out soon, the m05 has only just been released, unless its a rwd variation of the m05

M01 M03 M05 FWD

M02 M04 RWD so M06 would be right but after the new pic it's all speculation now :)

Also, thinking about it, if an M06 was near then why would Tamiya have released all those RWD cars on the FWD M05...(Datsun, S800, 600 Abarth etc)

This is indeed one point against the release of an M06 at this moment - Plus, it does seem a bit M05-ish - hard to see... I've searched and found no confirmation or other speculation about an M06 from what they saw at the Shizuoka RC Fair, so... I guess it's not what it looks like on the picture :)

M06 is the next logical rwd chassis, but as to the question of why release rwd models on a fwd chassis;

Tamiya have done this sort of thing throughout their rc history, The Ford Ranger 4wd prototype on a rwd swingarm chassis, Audi Quattro, 4wd prototype on a rwd chassis, Honda NSX, rwd released on a variety of 4wd chassis, plus a raft of rwd machines released on the TT01 chassis and......well, you get my point. :)

Just because they have released some classic rwd shells on the M05 doesn't mean they won't be producing an M06, I won't say the 05 lends itself easily to being converted to rwd, but it's far from impossible.

The M03 is still out there, which is very easy to convert to RWD - if one really wants RWD that badly, it's no problem - And actually, availability of the M04 is also good enough to get one and drive it :P

Don't get me wrong, the release of a new RWD M-chassis would be great. But let it please be a Fairly high end car - The public interested in the RWDs (I mean seriously interested, not people who discover it's a tad more difficult to drive than they expected and wanted) isn't a very big group, so why not then give them something that goes well with their level of driving? ;)

The M05 improves the M03 design by correcting its flaws. Mount the RX and ESC next to the servo on the M04 and you pretty much have a RWD M05.

What areas could be improved on the M04 to make that step to the M06 ?

If it could accept 210mm bodies like the M02. That'd be enough for me

It would be the necessary improvement indeed...

But besides that, wouldn't it be awesome to see more options for damper placement, better suspension geometry and maybe (carbon or nylon like the TRF201) reinforced plastics?

And hopefully standard, but at least as a hopup: Turnbuckles for the upper arms (instead of the non-adjustable one-piece), adjustable toe (front and rear maybe too?), (good adjustable) ball diff, universals, TRF dampers and stabilizers? ;)

Oh and not to forget, the option to turn the gearbox around (for mid engine and rear engine layout).

And why would Tamiya do all this effort? To make a very good performing RWD M-chassis, get more people enthustiastic about driving an RWD M-chassis in competition and to show that Tamiya can do at least as good a job on an M-chassis as HPI did with their Cup Racer (You have to admit that the Cup Racer's engineering is pretty clever and seems well suited for competition).

And basicly, I think Tamiya could have done a better job as well on the M05 - It's probably a very good car, but I think it's time that Tamiya (and the whole industry) make the M-chassis' more high end - Either by making a basher and a competition model, or by making an affordable high end car (They did it with the TA05 - why not do the same thing with the M-chassis, with all the available hopups and an -R version, but then without the TRF model standing above it? :P

I would be very happy to see an M06. Out of all my "M" size cars, (Cup racer included), I have the most fun bashing my M04's.

Love the M04, but there could be some new features that would be awesome. A reversable rear pod for rear motor/mid motor tuning would be sweet!

Cheers,

Skottoman

please dont insult tamiya by comparing it to hpi. :)

I'm with Origineelreclamebord

My Tamiya garage includes, TRF801X, TG10 Mk.2, TRF416WE, DF03-RA, 3 Speed Hilux, Re-re SRB. The Cup Racer is the only HPI I have ever bought and it was bought to replace my M04 and believe me, it was a VERY hard decision, because I always looked down on HPI. Having now owned a Cup Racer, I have to say, Don't knock the Cup Racer, until you try it :)!!

The fact that Tamiya even released the M05 after the Cup Racer baffles me. I recently built an M05 for my friend son and I find it a waste of re-engineering... zero adjustability out of the box and very heavy! So until Tamiya does release an M06 with a sensible / adjustable RWD layout.. I'm going to keep an HPI in the garage. It's all up to you Tamiya!

Yeah the Cup Racer is a nice chassis especially when upgraded with the graphite chassis hop-ups. I like the fact it has adjustible wheelbase too...and the bodies are very nicely detailed.

Anyway it would be nice if Tamiya updates the M04 with a M06 with a narrow double deck plate chassis and flexible gearbox placement option ie front/mid/rear.

A bit like a combination of a reversible FF-03 and the adjustable wheelbase and the width of the M-chassis? :)

+1 for HPI. I went from an M03 to a Cup Racer, and it's a miracle any of the Tamiya M cars even sell given the existence of such a superior offering.

I can think of one reason.... the price. An HPI cup racer kit is twice the price of an M-03.

Don't get me wrong it is a nice piece of engineering and I would like to try one out.

For now I am happy that the body kits are available seperately. :)

M-06 PRO Chassis Kit # 58460 Yen 17,800

No kidding, where did you find it? :D

One thing I don't understand though... Why didn't Tamiya wait for those few months with their Fiat 600, Renault Alpine and Honda S800 releases? :P It doesn't make sense releasing RWD shells on FWD chassis' first, abd after that actually making an RWD chassis.

I hope it's more 'Pro' than the M05 Pro - more like an FF03 gearbox bolted to the back of an M-chassis
