Hello there, new to this forum. I need some advice on building a pick up truck to run around a patch of ground;

What I want to build is an old fashioned truck, 4x4 or rear wheel drive, realism is a factor. Was thinking about a F150 chasis, the TA-02 I think it's called with a Pumpkin body or the like. I saw a Tourag? pick up but did not like the profile as the clearance looked wrong. I have a few cars, but have put effort into them and now don't want to run them. All I want is an old fashioned truck on a relative budget that can be broken and used without me worrying about it. Any suggestion and help much appreciated..... A Brat would be great, but a don't like the Subaru body. Also I dont want to do a polycarbonate shell.

Thank you....

Greets,

i think a hard bodyed, scale looking pickup on a budget could be a tricky ask. What about doing an SRB with a Blackfoot body?[could be a bit pricey too] or some kind of later Blackfoot and lowering it with more scale size wheels.Options are quite limited really IMHO but someone else might be able to think of something.

The Pumpkin body is well short for a TA-02 chassis unless you chop the chassis and fabricate a propshaft somehow.A TL01 would be easyer to chop for the Pumpkin body but the chassis has it`s weakneses.

Maybe a later BF body on a TA,i`m not sure, anyone else got any suggestions or showroom entrys to point too?.

Saying that, have a good look through the showrooms, there is some great cars and trucks been built.

Also look through the Special SIG`s,there is plenty of inspiration there.

Good luck and let us know what you decide to have a go at.

Wasn't ment to "quote" just this forum set-up's a bit tricky for a new user. Just want to know what hard bodies will fit what chassis at a budgt price, ie. Brat Chassis & a Blackfoot body etc. Any help is much appreciated, I would happily sacrifice performance for realism.....

Any help appeciated....

For realism you would look at getting a Blackfoot shell or Clod shell. Most would then suggest a CC01 chassis and you can modify the wheelbase to suit the shell. That is an easy route to follow and would make a good scaler. Then there is the Axial chassis to consider as a base for a hard shell. Seen some pretty awesome Highlift Hilux trucks in the not to distant past.

You can mod most chassis to some extend to fit a shell or vice versa. TL01 cut shorter is the easiest way to make a base for a Pumpkin shell.

Good luck with this and lets see if you get any suggestions.

Thanks for the replies, all appreciated as I don't know a great deal about this stuff. A mate has just given me a pile of bits and a chassis? called a FROG, the thing has some broken bodies and one a bit intact that looks like a SWB Landrover, though the wording on it says HANGOVER. Maybe I'll have a go at this...... Didn't cost anything, if it's ruined it can go in the bin... At least I haven't spent any £s yet.

i have a project in mind that may or may not be close to what you want to do. back in 90-91, rcca had a buildup of a hotshot with a parma 57 chevy sedan body. i always loved that car, and have wanted to to my own version ever since.

also, back in the 80s, there was a guy that used to desert race a 55 chevy and always won his class. i'd kinda like to do my own take on that.

so now, i'm thinking of building a frog (or maybe a 4wd chassis of some sort) as a vintage desert racer with a mcallister 57 ford bomber body, done in vintage style. rc4wd makes some 1.55 tires that are dead ringers for bfg all terrain ta tires, and at 3" would be perfect for such a car. they also make adapters for 2wd trucks to run 4x4 rims up front, and they also have some sweet 1.55 rims.

doing the same thing with a truck body would be no more difficult.

Thanks for the advice, I have been working on a Blackfoot shell that is looking alright in my humble opinion, stripped back, rusted, primed & now yellow/orange. The chassis is a mis-match but is looking to scale..... I've built from bits a cc01 chasis, just deciding on wheels and details. At least I like it! Any advice on wheels and lighting would be great... Thanks.....
