No worries

Reading through the triggers, there's a few possible reasons, including selling items in 'high risk' categories, I assume to mean iPhones, iPads and anything else 'gotta have' at the time

You have been on eBay less than six months and sell an item for more than £50

You have a feedback score of less than 98% and sell an item for more than £50

You have received less than 100 eBay feedback

More than 5% of your transactions result in dissatisfied buyers

You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 4.5 or less

You have received less than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings

You are listing your item in a higher-risk category

Now, if eBay/Paypal do hold your funds, I guess you're equally entitled to not post the goods, as they're deciding who should be paid and who shouldn't - something buyers could easily avoid by reading feedback!

Since October, I've been selling as normal (phones, PC equipment, RC stuff etc.) and never had funds held for any of them

Right , Just spoke to my mate , And he is saying . That paypal , have started too hold money , While they do a checks on your account . So this might happen too all of us . It seems they have held money back for three sale's , And wait . To see if you get good feedback. Once you have the good feedback, They let you have your money . Well , Don't know what too say about that really. Has any one else had this happen?

The original reasons for this were basically poorly performing sellers - so sellers that'd received significant bad feedback or were overall 'not that great'

Does your mate have particularly bad feedback?

The "average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of 4.5 or less" can be seen by hovering over the stars on his feedback page - mine's 4.9/5.0

From the original thread, it sounds as though eBay would only hold funds on sales which they had reason to believe may result in buyers being 'unhappy' with the item or service received from the seller.

Just got off the phone, His DSR is 4.8 , Ebay 100 % feedback. Just had a look at it my self. And yes it all good. Very strange . LOL

Last year I bought something from an eBay seller and he emailed me a few days after shipping the item to ask me to leave feedback as soon as I received the item because he said my payment was being held until I left feedback (and he really needed the money fast). I don't remember any particulars about the seller, and certainly nothing negative - I don't buy from sellers that do not have a very good rating and feedback. I think the seller may have been somewhat new and/or with a low number of transactions, but enough for me to feel comfortable buying from. In the end everything was perfect and I left positive feedback and I never heard from the seller again.

I think it's been covered in the other posts above but it certainly happened with me in the early stages when I opened a business account. They held back money until the feedback was left as we had no feedback or transaction history. It was only for the first month, or maybe until we had 10 stars, but it soon changed then we got paid in realtime. I guess it was just another way to stop all the dodgy traders from starting again.

I assume this is for new accounts as my personal account which I've used for over 5 years has never been affected?

Ebay are still doing it, any new account linked to ebay or new ebay account they are holding money util the buyer leaves feedback or you can prove with tracking that its been delivered, its fair enough to protect people from scammers on fee-pay but it also affects honest people too.

Yep. Still occuring even on none new accounts. My wife sold an item this past week BIN. She has 100% positive feedback, but not sold or bought anything for over a year. She is still waiting for the payment even though the buyer received it a couple of days ago.

alot has changed since my paypal days back then the seller was the ultimate scammer, but now its the BUYER who is the ultimate scammer. Typical buyer scammer:

buyer pays, claims he didnt get product, paypal sides with buyer, even with tracking and signature, buyer gets product and money. Awesome just awesome

Hi there

I know what you mean. It is getting bad for the seller these days .

Paypal will only side with the buyer UNLESS the seller can provide tracking showing its been delivered or signed for, once that happens paypal dont give a "Bad Word" (inserted by myself to save TC doing it lol), if you claim as not happy/not as described all they will do is ask you to return it (at YOUR own cost) for a full refund (including the original shipping costs you paid), so what happens is you BOTH lose money.

Paypal sucks but until someone else comes up with a cheaper more flexible option its here to stay.

P.S. what I do know is a LOT of sellers have contacted ebay about the huge bias towards buyers (I must get a request for custmer service/ebay policy feedback every 3 weeks so they are looking at it, so i actually called them about it and they said it was due to the HUGE amount of complaints from sellers), they will no doubt be making further changes later in the year to address some of the issues, as the guy on the phone told me "We made changes to address the issues buyers were having but the changes went too far and now the sellers are having issues, buyers and sellers are symbiotic, without buyers sellers wouold not exist but at the same time without sellers buyers could not actually buy anything!" and all that came from an Ebay Powerseller customer account manager.

Cheers

LOL :)

They sure did make some changes... How 'bout this brilliant idea:

http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2010/06/...pricing-changes

"Refund Prices – Starting August 10, PayPal will retain the transaction fee (typically $.30) when a seller issues a refund (U.S. and Canada merchants)"

Now they plan on charging you to issue a refund!!!

Not sure about this , Was there not a case , Where a TC member sent a Sand scorcher , He gave tracking number , The buyer signed for it . And the buyer said it was a empty box, So buyer got his money back ! So far as i can see. It dose not matter weather you can provide tracking number . Or if the buyer signs for it . I think its on the forum some where .

There was a huge amount of doubt on the forums that that story was true. The original poster of the thread subsequently removed all his contact details from TC and has never posted again.

thats where you have to look at all the factors and same for ebay when it comes to buying from a seller.....I myself (rare moments) would not buy from a TC member who has lets say 50 posts and espeically if that first post is "FOR SALE xxxxxx"...with ebay its slightly different with the payment holding thing as a buyer you have some protection with new ebay members, but then comes that day when you have a scammer buyer out there and ruins the sellers rating goes down hill from there. I know from personal experience that buyers have buyers remorse all the time. I sold something once on ebay and then the buyer had buyers remorse because they claimed their signifigant other bought one for himself behind her back and now they have two of the same item, but the item already shipped and she wanted me to refund her her money and pay for her shipping it back.....long story short paypal sided with her....for BUYER REMORSE.

No problem mate, i was going to post that was an almost certain bogus case but you know me i dont like to say things out loud :) plus twinset beat me to it.

P.S. all the information came from paypal policy which you can read if you ever have a spare 5 hours (look at it in paypal next time your signed in, nah seriosuly dont bother i have shortened it somewhat already for you all!).

@ jocktheglide, paypal policy states that is someone wishes to return something, that they do so at their OWN cost (Buyers cost), however they will then insist on you refunding the whole amount (as said in previosu post so you BOTH lose out)

Cheers
