Hi all, im rebuilding my Astute and have no Ball Diff grease. I use Pronatur Triflow Grease in regular tamiya diffs, and it works no problem. Is this ok to use in a ball diff?

Many thanks

Balldiffs need a fatty grease, which is not the same as regular grease. So you need to use a grease intended for ball diffs.

Hi, just found a new pot of AW grease that came with my tt01 ball diff, good times indeed!

Cheers

The Asture ball diff (same as the King Cab one) is very "delicate" and you have to rebuilt it carefully following the manual. You have to use only specific Ball Diff grease you can find Tamiya one (#53042) or you can use one of the other on the market. I use the Associated Ball Diff grease (#6591) and it works wonder.

If you don't know how much use your diff has, would be safer to buy a rebuilt kit to be sure to rebuild it with new parts. This way it will work for sure.

Like WWD said, I'd really go for some type of ball diff grease, preferably even the one from Tamiya.

Ball diffs are pretty delicate pieces of engineering on itself, not just the Astute one. The amount of grease mustn't be too little, because lubrication will be bad, the friction too high and the ball diff may heat up and/or prematurely wear down. Too much grease will cause the balls too slip too easily and wear down very quick because it tends to slip easily. The wrong grease may also cause one of these two problems, which will also damage the ball diff

Im using all new diff internals, the housing is the only "used" part. Although to be honest, the whole car seems in pretty good condition.

The diff grease im going to use came with my tt01 ball diff, but i never opened the tub. Ill try and get the amount i need right and go from there, wont be running the Astute much, not even got a body sorted yet!

Thanks for the info guys

Actually, scratch that idea!

Just realised this AW grease came with my tt01 universals, not my ball diff. Def going to get some proper grease.

Ok, went to my LHS today and picked up some stuff.

Silicone Diff Lube for the "runner" bearings, the larger ones.

Hi-Pressure Black grease for the smaller "thrust bearings", just wanted to check i had this the right way round....

Any help would be great!

Kind Regards
