this car will be a talking point for years to come!

That's not a good thing - I had a boil on my butt when I was 7 - 34 years later my mum's still going on about how it ruined a holiday in Somerset.

LOL, now theres an image for everyone :D Mind you that Holiday Buggy may well be the boil on Mr Tamiyas butt, its sure ugly enough!!

How can they take such a great bodyhell and fit it to an unsuitable chasssis. Maybe if they had spent a bit of time to change front suspension (laydown??? to fit under shell) and changed suspension arm lengths, provide a method of mounting original wheels and it would, in my opinion, be much better. But no lets take the quick route, cut a few holes in the body and fit it on an existing chassis.

Lets hope Tamiya are having a huge joke with us all.

if you don't like it, buy an original

not exactly hard to find.

Pretty sure discussion and opinion is allowed, regardless of original's availability :D

Funny it's probably not the first time it's been pointed out to 30cms in this long thread...

Here's a point to consider...

ive got the parts to have a good go at "re-adjusting" the HB 2010.

Do i commit to purchase a BH2010 and by doing so chalk one up in sales.(to suggest its been well received)

OR

Do i get DT02 parts and start my own then crown it with the shell once its out?

i wouldnt dream of using an original shell, its not my style, but im impatient and ive found thru experience that its better (if poss) to get it all in one box.

guess Tamiya may have pulled a stroke of genius...i wouldnt have even bothered with this model if it wasnt so "different"

loved it back then and loving this one just as much, this for me is the most exciting modern Tamiya release in ages as its not really a re-re is it, this is tamiya seeing just how much nostalgia sells regardless of what they do to it

which rear axles are you using?

30cm i have a cunning plan..........

im gonna use either chrome finish tg10 regular axles (as per touring car etc)

or

dark colour "hard" versions as per Thunder Shot/Top Force

either way i will have to use Parma wheel adapters.

Ive tried re-re Frog axles in the past but for most hubs they are too long..(long in the area where it sits on the bearings)

to get it to fit without HUGE side to side play..its shim time...shims in this instance think more along the lines of metal bushings!..thats how much gap there is to fill.

the Parma things are pretty good..instead of a 2mm pin to transfer drive, they have a 2mm screw that goes through the adapter and axle.this makes it very thin compared to the original version i would use on a Frog axle.

to round it off the axle of choice is too short to reach through the SRB style wheels....the Parma jobs come with a cylinder type nut thing that threads onto the wheel axle where the wheel nut would usually go.

this runs an outside diameter that fits the SRB wheels perfectly and has a hexagon on the end to allow you to tighten it up and of course, stop the wheel coming off!

Im sure CRP on ebay in USA do a similar "tube nut" type thing with the Grasshopper/Hornet monster truck adapter.basicly extends the axle length with a stopper built in for the end.

Im also sure the Parma things were bought many a moon ago and prob wont be readily avail...but if you were to use a wide axle TG10 version, then that would take the original plastic thick disc type wheel adapters.the wide version is made to take the longer hex for cars that have wider tread on the rear.

nice

i was thinking tg10 axles, or some aftermarket frog ones too.

i used tg10 axles on my Willy's Wheeler conversion on a WW2

the real considerations are lowering the shock towers, and filling those holes up.

Funny you should mention a big red pustule - I was just thinking what a Sand Rover re-re would look like.

Alas,im pretty much accepting that the holes are a done deal.

that PE material is not gonna fill without a fight so im thinking more about maybe cool shocks.if im gonna see the tops they might aswell be nice tops?

shocks might be a wait an see item tho.

in my mind im thinking 60mm dampers from say a 1/18th.slim damper cylinder should be cool for scale-ish effect.

springs might be a worry..dont know how much the 1/18ths weigh...and i sure dont have anything else (Hornet/Grasshopper front springs may do?)

there will be a way :D

you are right on the shocks though.

i think it will be a trial and error thing.

maybe some tamtech shocks?

the back end needs to drop a bit too.

I can assure you im not a tight wad scottish git! but the Tamiya alloy Tamtech shocks are abit of a pricey dice if they wont do as planned.i was thinking more along the lines of GPM rc18t or losi equiv.

think Asiatees show the GPM's with more than one spring as standard also?

combined with Tl01la arms and hubs..should be quite narrow in comparison.

here's an example of how volatile modding is in my mind.....

im already thinking that i might put a PAIR of 1/18th dampers per side at the front..if im using the Tl01la im sure its got mount points for shocks on both front and rear edges.

then the bonnet holes might not be BIG ENOUGH?!! :D

could mount a shock to the front and rear of the front tower....brain....is...melting....in...skull....

Im sure someone at tamiya right now is sat with there head in there hands, thinking what have i done lol.

and behind him stands a man with a samurai sword laying across outstretched arms, guesturing him to "do the honourable thing!" :)

It's not too late to pull it (I hope) for the sake of Tamiya's reputation.

They should go back and do this re-release properly and ;-

1) make it like the original but fix the problem of the front suspension snapping off,

2) put a cover over the gears,

3) give us the original wheels and tyres,

4) a box art unchanged from the original,

5) and fix the roof pillars problem by making them thicker and make the roof a separate piece,

6) injection mold the body in blue Styrene so it doesn't need to be painted and has a gloss finish as is

7) have blister packs just like the original, make the box a little smaller if they really have to but preferably not,

8) make the manual in spot color instead of black and white (yuk),

9) give us the original grey SRB bumper,

and if needs be increase the price to make these things possible. Then it would have much more appeal to the (I still think fairly large) vintage-buggies-adored-by-30-somethings market. I'd buy 2, plus spare body sets, there's the neck end of 300 quid income for Tamiya for a start. And I would be a LOT happier :)

Just my 2p worth.

Cheers,

Alistair G.
