If You Were In Charge Of Tamiya?

Recommended Posts

As the topic states, if you had the power over the worlds greatest company for one hour and got the chance to do one thing. What would you create.

No re-re. But parts for kits or complete new kits.

right now It would be some super grip tires for the sand scorcher. (I know I can fit some on but I would like the to fit the SS or RR wheels)

These tires are just so awesome.

No hit me with your ideas of what you would make.

A really mad Drag Funny Car with big rear wheels and small fronts and a big wheelie bar with a 5t brushless

Or

The Batmobile either the Keaton one or the Bale one!

1/10 or 1/8th scale County 1164 4wd tractor with 3 spd box. Great for crawling as front wheels are driven from rear wheels with dual propshafts (no front diff). Gives far better traction than front and rear diff system used on nearly all 4x4, as you have have to lose traction on both wheels on 1 side for the diff to spin (Ala dukes of hazard style :P ). selectable diff lock on 4th servo (No rear suspension so easy to put dog clutch across rear axles to lock diff). Also use 1 motor for transmission either side for optional skid steering. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look for county tractor on U-tube. Could use brushless motors for scale tractor pull competitions, hill climbing. etc

Thinking about building a monster truck with similar transmission myself, but it would be a lot less effort to buy a NIB off ebay :(

Either that, or my 4x4 Lunch Box.....

Ladies and Gentlemen, shareholders and shareholderz.

I'm truly honoured to be the new CEO of the Tamiya Plastic Model Company.

In accordance with the current policy of our company I will immediately give the go ahead for the following re-release:

- Sand Rover and Holiday Buggy (oops, my predecessor has just done it: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=57259 )

- Toyota Hilux and Blazing Blazer

- Toyota Bruiser

- Super Champ

- FAV and Wild One

- Monster Beetle

- Fox

- Porsche 959 and Celica Gr.B Rally Special.

- Avante (in it's original form and none of that rubbish my predecessor came up with) and Egress

This will ensure a very profitable future and the support of millions of screaming fans around the world.

Thank you.

Chain Driven, CEO for 5 minutes.

Sorry about the no RERE but I could not resist, I'm the CEO after all.

Jokes apart a CC02 chassis would be nice along with new hard bodies for it.

Where to start?

+1 on the tires; Tamiya has needed some new scale tires for a decade now :P IMO The last decent set they've created was the Goodyear and BFGs from the XC series, and nothing else until the Highlift 1.9s, which really aren't that scale at all. What the RC line really needs is some realistic HIGH PROFILE tires for both the trucks and the rally car line. While they're at it, it wouldn't hurt if they could do some fat on-roads as well, made to fit 1.5 mini wheels. Not all cars have 19 inch wheels FFS!!!

Then there is all of the dead-end models that Tamiya could have continued making hop-ups for, but instead abandoned the mark for the new additions. Why oh why did they never do more hop-ups for the XC? Why did they never finish developing the features in the Highlift series? I remember hearing rumors that Tamiya was going to do a winch upgrade for the MFC, (which incidentally appears to be provided for in the MFC) but instead they just made a Tundra and then apparently gave up on the line altogether??

If it were up to me, I'd go full-tilt and give the XC a full line of useful hop-ups, including tire options and a real limited slip diff! I could understand if it's not economically wise to bring a new XC chassis to the market, but why not continue building on an already popular platform? If turned loose on the Highlift, I'd have a winch made available, a scale frame conversion kit (think of the fun!), and maybe even a new model for the platform in the form of a towing truck or Dakar rig. :(

Oh and the rally car line up - well, there would have to be some new tires made for sure -- especially considering that I'd do a full line of rally classics. I'm thinking Lancia Stratos, but the list could be endless. While I'm at it, I would create an 'all weather' rally specific MFC that's cheaper and simpler than the MFC-02. I would have these units sold individually as a hop-up, or included in a special line of 'premium' rally car kits if the market seemed receptive.

Wow - So many things I can think of! 70s muscle cars, JDM classics, Kei cars, ATVs, a motorcycle? 1/8 scale brushless F1, excavation equipment, and on, and on, ... You're only limited to what people will fork over their hard-earned cash for!

-S

Yep that's very true.

Yep that's very true.

Seriously though, how hard could it be? I'm not even asking for a new tire convention -- Just make some bigger tires in the 1.5 size and I'd be a happy camper :P

Very good. I think in a few days we can send this thread to SanTa Miya. So if they ever run out of ideas they could use some of ours.

Keep em coming. :P

Well I would make a couple of kits:

Land Rover Defender on a CC-01

Range Rover Vogue se on a CC-01

A Volvo coach on like one of the 1/14th truck chassis (would be great to sticker up)

Mk 3 Ford Escort phase one RS Turbo on a TT-01

Thanks Rizzo

I would release a 1/5 scale gas powered 2WD buggy that looks like a big SRB to compete with HPI's 5b.

Sell all rc kits for just £1 each!!!

Well with business sense like that, I'd only last 1 hour before being escorted off the premises.

I agree so many 100's of % with the 1,5" wheels with tires for non-mini cars that it can't be written by mere numbers...

x = 100

while x > 99

(

x + 100 = x

print x

)

:P

 Very good idea!

- I'd set a few people to work to find me a TRF211X and possibly a 411X

- I'd want to find out if Tamiya ever worked on making a Front Wheel Drive Buggy

- I'd make sure Tamiya would release some proper high profile Rally Tires and more Scaler Tires (like mentioned before by others)

- And speak with the people who arrange the (modern/double wishbone) Buggy Designs to design a bit more like the late 80's to mid 90's again, They looked much better.

- As for the 'scale' buggies - A modern but true-to-scale version of the Wild One. That means very close to the Wild One's design in the looks, different box art, gearbox with slipper clutch, place for LiPo... I think you get the picture :)

All of that in one hour? I guess so... :P Leaving notes for Mr.T and making sure the workers want those projects to be done... And there's one more thing:

- Re-release bodyset of the Subaru Impreza Mk.I - but now with light buckets.

Problem is, I can do only one... Hmmmm :( I think I'll just make sure Mr.T got stuck in a traffic jam, keeping me in his place just a little longer :P

I would arranged for a Tamiya museum/mega store to be opened outside Japan.

One in major capital cities of USA/Europe/Asia etc....

Fantastic display of all their products in one place. - would be a mecca for those with the Tamiya Bug.

better variety of off road competition wheels and tires.

better pricing on trf products.

bearings in every kit, even the hopper.

cvd's standard on all offroad vehilces.

kit speed controllers should be able to handle tamiya's entire range of brushed motors.

550 motors on monster trucks with esc's able to handle them.

deans connectors. the tamiya connector has over extended it's stay....by 20 years lol.

heavier guage wires and 4mm gold plated bullets for motors / esc's.

All points are well thought out and I especially nominate the bold ones. They went 'Deans' on the super levant, it wouldn't kill them to develop their own plug again, this time with future currents and longetivity in mind :)
