hi, i have been playing with my original ss today, trying to put a newer 540 in, it does,nt seem to want to go, I dont think the old perspex cover will marry up, any thoughts? I would like to drop a sport tune in, how is it done?

oops thought you meant the re-release

i believe the older motor casing has something that blocks anything but the supplied silver can. You can shave it off to fit the other motors

Very few modern motors fit in the original gearbox without modifying it.

Very few modern motors fit in the original gearbox without modifying it.

I have also done this mod, but I took about .3 off the motor itself instead of adjusting the vintage gearbox, I found the problem to be the black coating on the motor is very thick.
