Ok this topic has been on my mind for a while.

So i put it to you as what do you think tamiy's most succesfull chassis is.

Two come to my mind with one very clear winner.

Number 2 to me is the Hot Shot series.

Hot Shot.

Super Shot.

Hot Shot 2.

Boomerang ( same drive train)

Big Wig.

The number one platform Drive train is the Manta Ray Chassis.

Manta Ray.

Top Force.

Top Force EVO.

Terror Conqueror.

Dirt Thrasher.

Blazing Star.

Than all the on road versions which was lots.

This has to be the most milked out chassis ever.

What do you think?????

sorry forgot to list the models:

brat

frog

mud blaster

monster beetle

blackfoot

king blackfoot

there are more, i think!

maybe not as much as the ta01 series, but it sure has had a long production run.

in fact, has it been in production continuously since the brat?

How about the Pajero/Lunchbox/Pumpkin chassis? Got to be one of Tamiya's most produced chassis of all time! :D
Just what I was going to say. If it is the best chassis I guess it's a matter of tastes, but it really is Tamiya's longest produced chassis ever. The Pajero chassis has been out since 1984 non-stop until today and it still goes strong -no end in sight.

You all have a great week! :)

DF01 would be second in line for the longest chassis run Tamiya have made. Starting with the Manta Ray and still being produced under new bodies (Cayenne). It's also the longest lasting (number of runs without needing a new gearbox) of any of Tamiya's shaft drive 4WD buggys. Having owned all the 4WD shaft buggys Tamiya makes, I know which stands up the longest to the silly power I bolt in them.

Lunchbox and Pumpkin would be the one. Had Tamiya really stopped making these fun trucks?

i'd have to nominate the clod. just it, the bullhead and super clod... but a virtually unchanged chassis still in production since 87? that's success

lancia rally

bush devil

super blackfoot

I think that makes 27 year run and still going, not bad.

are they really "in production" or just a big stockpile of kits in the warehouse? :)

methink the outright title for continuous production would be TT01

its now 9yrs since its release and has eclipsed the TL01

As said, the clodbuster was released in -87 and it just changed name and got new colors...still produced...

The Hornet/Grashopper is also quite sucessful, IIRC, the Hornet is Tamiyas most sold kit ever and there's quite a few kits based on it...

Surely one of the "longest run" chassis would be the Super Hornet. Kit #124....lt was in production for a very long time - up until a few years ago.

Most successful at the track - depends on what you define as success. Club racer - undoubtedly the Hotshot and the Frog. Serious competition - can only honestly say the relatively recent on road TRF 411 series.

Well I have at least some incarnation of all these chassis listed above so they all have been around the block a few times. Most loved for me is the tub on the Pumpkin and Lunchie though.

+1 for the Clod also. From 1987 to 2:55 pm local time LOL.. yes, still going unlike the others mentioned. There is something special about the Clod, the Jugg could not replace it.

the clod is like a B52. newer trucks will come along, and they will go. the clod is forever.

back in 99, i remember the clod vs usa1 debates. now it's clod vs emaxx or whatever else is "cool."

I'd have to agree with the Hot Shot series chassis, i always wanted the Hot Shot as a kid but ended up with the Frog which i still have haha..oddly enough as has been mentioned it has enjoyed a fairly good production run too over the years.

Interesting comments guys.

Still as TA Mark said the Manta Ray Chassis would have to be the NU 1 chassis.

This dates back now 19 yrs in production.

Clod set the standard for monster trucks. It made an IMPACT on all Monsters that came after it, thats special and successful.

With respect to the DF series among others mentioned, name a more Iconic Tamiya model other than the Clod with more WORLDWIDE recognition outside of us Tamiya fanatics. The Blackfoot/Frog, Grasshopper and Lunchbox would be next on my list for the same reasons, worldwide recognition. Argument for number 1 is close :)

Mr Anderson, would you care to elaborate on your post? Being a recognisable figure (and probably the most knowledgable with regards to your stature and position) within TamiyaUSA and sales and service within America. :P

You said so much, yet so little with one word :)

for example:

Bingo = Longest running unchanged chassis?

Sales, if you had to place the Clod Buster chassis on a podium in regards to sales, where would it place? and other notable mentions/chassis's you care to divulge in?

I realise Tamiya America doesn't negate worldwide sales, but much like Tamiyaclub showrooms, it could give us somewhat of an indication of how things may have panned out for Tamiya globally.

Cheers :P

I do also wonder if America being the home of Monster Trucking, and both Clod chassis shells being American based (Chevrolet and Peterbilt?) did or didn't sway sales figures within the States compared to the World. It would be easy to say yes, but I cant help but feel that the whole world was in on the Monster truck buzz aswell in the eighties :P

I suppose regardless, Tamiya knew what they were doing when they tooled up for the Clod. :P

I also recall that the clod is the only model you can build entirely from aftermarket parts due to the fact that every part has been remade for one purpose or another?

That just adds to the Iconic status, love and the true test of time of this truck.

I hope this does not turn into a "USA" vs the "World" thread.
