Just stripped the 3rd set of bevel gears in my M05. I run a combination of sport tuned and HPI 15T sealed can motors and I guess either the quality of the gears has gone down the pan or they can't take the awesome power of my 15T (£7.50) motor. They only seem to last for about an hour at most.

I see 3 Racing do a spool to replace the diff and obviously this would fix my problem. Also it should tame the loss of traction when exiting corners under full power BUT does it screw up the handling in other ways ie, cornering on a trailing throttle etc? I mean, diffs are there for a reason, right?

Basically, does anyone use a spool in the M-car and if so do they rate it?

Have you considered using the manta ray ball diff #53070? You would have pretty bad turn-in with a locked diff/spool in a FWD I'd imagine...

:edit: not sure if you can use the #53070 in a M05, somebody else please clarify?

Haven't run the 3racing spool myself but I have seen a few cars running it and i've run a spooly diff (tight ball diff) myself.

Basically it gives you MORE under steer on entry and loads of snappy bite coming out of the corner under acceleration. A spool only really works on long open corners. Forget it on a tight twisty circuit.

If you’re blowing Gear diffs I’d recommend a ball diff. TA03, not the rubbish M05 ball diff.

2 reasons...

1) your less like to blow it up

2) its adjustable, so you can get a spool action by tightening it right up.
