My wife's moaning I spend too much time trying to escape from her and the kids to build my SRB projects, which once finished won't be used much at all...

She said why can't I get a car (there's a positive, I hear that as an order to do so) that after I've played around with it, stripping down re-building etc, that I could take to the local park and bash about and the kids can come with me to watch (they are 19months and nearly 3).

I've only ever hear good things about the slash, and that its a beast.... I'd only buy an entry level one to start with, I think its the Mark Jenkins RTR I've seen quite cheap.

Would like to hear from anyone who's got one, on what you guys think..

thanks

Steve

Oh boy... Wait till Zak001 reads this thread, you are going to get a novel. Be prepared for a laundry list of upgrades, followed by at least 3 pitches for a Mamba Max combo. LOL!! Anyway, I hear they are great cars.. Great runners even. I don't have one, I am a Tamiya purist and wouldn't want the mix of brand of parts with all of what I have already. Let us know what you get!

while i don't own one i have driven many. i don't like them, they are tough but they do not handle well at all in my opinion.

the hpi blitz and associated sc10 are much better trucks, the sc10 being the best (again in my opinion)

the slash dissapointed me too much. old tamiya's handle better.

also 1/2 the people i know with a slash have either sold them or are going to sell them so they can buy sc10's.

thats the problem with traxxas, there's always a laundry list of upgrades, most of which are needed.

Zak001 helped me out once before, I'll wait and see what he says, but I did see pages and pages of upgrades available on Tower Hobbies. But with that many upgrades is the original no good, I'll see what he says...

I must admit this would be my first electric car that wasn't Tamiya, and it does feel a little wrong. But people keep saying the slash is very very strong.. I don't want to be mending it all the time. Just charge and play when I want to entertain the kids..

Not so with the 2 WD Slash,I have thrashed mine for 10 months and only broken a rear hub at £1.70 it`s stock except i put a 10.5 brushless system in it,which is plenty of oOOOMPH for me for both racing and bashing.

Top car,a better all rounder than all the other SCT`s without doubt.

I have both and SC10 and a slash. Tru the slash doesn't handle as well as the sc, but then again it won't as the AE car is based on a thoroughbred buggy and the slash isn't.

I have a Novak Hvoc 10.5 b/l in the sc and that's plenty quick enuff, and with a 3600 LiPo I get the best part of 1/2 hr hard runtime, and the slash is running a Mamba Max 7700 combo and with a 4000 lipo I get about 15-20 min hard running.

The SC10 is a little more delicate and won't take the beating that a slash will (so far only broken a front wishbone, but upgraded to the blue GPM parts now) but that's not a problem as I run that and the kids take it in turns with the slash (only broken the rear shock tower, but then again the car was 2nd hand when I got it, so see how long the new one lasts)

You won't regret getting either, but if you just want out and out fast hard bashing then I'd go for a slash every time. You can pick a used one up fairly cheap now and parts are very reasonable should you need em. Also it'll be a great car for your kids to start with.

just my two penn'orth, but hope it helps

I started with the original Slash 2wd. Then got the RTR Slash 4x4 with 2.4 ghz radio. Now I have the Slash Platinum 4x4 with a Spektrum Radio.

All three are excellent performers. & I routinely use them all with the young fella.

Enough said  .

Thinking about a Slash?

Get one.

Tough as nails, more than fast enough bone stock, absolute hoot to drive, and plenty of upgrade options should you WANT to go down that route.

I have a 4x4 and put LiPo in just to get some extra run time. It's fast enough as it is for me.

I will almost certainly buy myself a 2WD at some point.

yeah, get one! 2wds are bullet proof and 4x4's are bullet retardant! I have 3, just can't get enough of them!

Never had a slash but do have a Traxxas rustler VXL, they are very tough and loads of fun, yes there is better for handling but they really aren't that bad, no good for racing. hard to beat for bashing. Its not true you need loads of upgrades to make them good, they are very good stock, people that say this usually dont own one. The VXL series have all metal gears with a planetary diff, very strong gears. I put a mamba max 6900kv in running 2s lipo, over the top for the rustler and found the motor was to hot, geared 14/90 and with the alluminium tranny case thats the sweet spot, now everything is fine.

I guess it depends what you want, the rustler, pede and bandit share lots of interchangeable parts, I made my rustler into a bandit (same chassis) but prefered the rustler so when back.

For bashing you cant beat traxxas, very good value and you can get parts anywhere, if you want something a little better for handling then Id get the HPI firestorm flux, I have both but Id pick my rustler any day

Sorry I cant help more with the slash.

My rustler vxl upgraded with rem and rpm....... the chassis has made a great difference, metal bearings in the bellcrank and a digital servo have made it handle pretty well.

Get a Slash. They are great for bashing, spare parts are easy to get hold of and aren't too expensive. You can have loads of fun with just the stock 2wd version. Use a 8.4v Nimh or a Lipo and its even for fun.

1. All those upgrades are because of the slash's popularuty and high sales (much like the clodbuster many years ago)

2. Yes, it's traxxas and not tamiya but it is entirely different, it is performance based and built for fun racing & bashing you won't feel bad beating the tar out of it.

3. Get one !

I've always been a tamiya guy but traxxas sure opened my eyes up for straight from the box fum years ago with the e-maxx. I still by Tamiya's though .

Consider a Hong Nor SCRT10 4wd, I have just got one to compliment my SC10.

A most impressive piece of kit, with 3 diffs and very strong!
