So you guys out there with numerous 4WD cars should be able to answer this one.

You take your Super Shot and your BigWig and line them up together and hit the throttle, which one will get off the line the quickest (both have Technigold as standard and SuperShot needs to change battery holderto fit 8.4v Gold Power)? You could include your Avante's or Top Forces, or Egresses in the line up as well (but I suspect 8.4v + technigold would trump 7.2v + Dynatech 01/02H)

Just some fun nothing more because no doubt many of you have upgraded your Super Shots with brushless systems and lipos, but this is purely for complete standard vintage setups, no new/high tech

So a sraight dash to say 30m or 40m Top Gear style, who crosses first/last?

No one has thought of this except me? I can't be the only 'petrol-head' (maybe that should be electric-head) amongst us, surely someone out there watches Top Gear besides me and likes to see straight line speed tests???

So if I said the Avante was as slow as a brick and could never beat a Super Shot or BigWig, would anyone reply and flame me down??

If I had a Super Shot I'd answer my own question and post the results here, alas I only got a BigWig this week (2+ decades after first release  ) hence my post.

I would say personally speaking the supershot would be quickest as BOTH the Big-Pig and Avante are slow!!!!, fanning those flames even more! :P

Well the Super Shot had the Technipower as standard and was originally concieved to run on 7.2v power (although a later battery holder upgrade made 8.4v power possible). The Big Wig used a Technigold and it was "designed" to be paired with 8.4v power. I too am curious if the lesser powered but lighter Super Shot could outrun the hefty Big Pig.

I think the answer is in the gearing and weight no? What are the ratios with the kit included pinion?

Well seeing how they are both variations of the Hotshot (same gearbox) I think their gearing would be similar so if you chose a smaller pinion you'd have faster acceleration for sure (is 13T the absolute minimum for these cars?). The deciding factor could be the weight and according to Tamiya101.com they have the following:

RTR Weights

BigWig - 1750 grams

Super Shot - 1720 grams

Does this mean that the BigWig is kitted out at the start with an 8.4v and the Super Shot only with a 7.2v? Is the difference in weight between the batteries 30g??

I think those weights are without batteries?, can tsee the big pig weighing less than 2Kg with its 8.4V battery, which on its own weights probably 400-500g

does sound a good race. :P

i make it 13 tooth pinion for BigWig and Supershot (all shot series cars)

technituned/power 21t single with 0.7mm wire and (23dg timing unsure if technituned or technipower has this as a standard setting?)

technigold 21t single with 0.8mm wire and 15dg timing as standard

possibly 8.4v for both?

on paper it looks to be close even with 8.4v each?

as for the weight difference? i would imagine most of the diffence would be in the extra BigWig cell....the extra plastic bits wouldnt add up to that much surely?

Dynatech 01r 19t single 0.9mm (option rotor 17 single 1.0mm)

Dynatech 02h 13t double 0.65mm (option rotor 10 double 0.7mm)

Avante2001 would be less of an advantage with its Sport Tuned 23 single 0.8mm on 7.2v

(motor spec found on TamiyaBlog.com)

why not put the same motors and batts in them?

if you did that the topforce would destroy them all.

(i think even if you didn't the top force would still smoke'm)

Seems probable:

Top Force

RTR Weight = 1690 grams

But can you fit an 8.4v in a Top Force?? I don't think so.......!! :P

And for comparison:

Avante 2001 RTR Weight = 1770 grams (Heavier than Super Shot by 50g)

Couldn't find any details for Avante but it must have been heavier than this but even so neither of the Avante models nor the Top Force could use an 8.4v (unless someone out there has done this..!) so I'd still bet either the Big or Super(Technigold/8.4v) would smoke the newer Vintage models :(

I was gonna say the Avante2001 would get smoked but i thot id be nice an say "not advantaged"! :P

ive got a Top Force and a stick 8.4v wouldnt fit in the shell, the chassis is cut to take 6 cell saddle but comes with stick pack mounts?

i like the idea of "out the box" spec tho...the TopForce would have to do with a silver can! :(

If out the box was applied then the Egress and TopForce Evo would sit motionless (neither come with a motor) ;)

just incase non standard is allowed....my TopForce currently sports Touring car all plastic gears and an Acto TRF tuned 12 single (not 100% on full spec but rumoured to do the 30,000rpm magic-ness) and on its 20 tooth 0.6module flourine coated pinion (for a F201) its bonkers fast off the mark and top end is borderline unuseable on low grip surfaces! :P

not to appear a Tamiya snob...a Top Force evo would be better still....(dont have one)
