Hi guys,

I've been slowly but surely making my Lambourghini shell with full light kit and spoiler kit. It was all going so well until I drilled the holes so that it would fit onto the TT-01 Type E chassis that I purchased for it, but the holes do not line up at all!! :P

Even when I look at drilling the other available holes in the shell, it still would not line up it would appear.

Has anyone tried this shell on the TT-01 Type E chassis and can advise?

Also any ideas what I can use to fill in the now redundant holes I have drilled, or am I best leaving them so that I can use the shell with other chassis should I so wish in he future (although very doubtful!)

Thanks and any advise really would be great! ;)

Shame about the holes in the shell. ;)

I always line up the unpainted shell on the actual car before drilling the holes.

Is it the Tamiya shell that you are using?

Hi there, yes it is! I REALLY thought I had lined everything up, now its got holes in the wrong places, 6mm ones at that!

The weird this is, if I line the shell up with the front chassis pins, it would appear that the shell would be perfectly lined up with the front wheels, but then the rear of the shell with 2 extra mini dents for drilling positions at the back, would not line up meaning I'd have to guess myself - is that right?!

I hope that makes sense?!

hi,the Tamiya Countach shell for a TT01 should have the front holes on the lowest edge of the windscreen...perhaps the rear are curious.they are shaped like a "tic tac" for want of a better description.

kinda like two holes with the joining part cut out.

i think its poss due to the big foam bumper.it allows some degree of shell movement back to front when impacts occur?

the rear kinda run next to the raised edge on the engine cover.my shell had the holes already? i think it may have come from a split kit?

hope it helps

Hi there,

Yup I drilled the 'tic tac' shape part at the rear of the shell, and have since realised that had the wrong body arms (where the body clips go into) on the rear of the car, so I have changed those and now the back lines up with the holes ok BUT the front do not. could change the body clip arm thingies on the front, but you would still need to really tug on the shell to get it to pop over those arms at the front, so I'm wondering if something else is not quite right?

When you say the 'lowest edge of the windscreen' do you mean the holes are literally by the windscreen so where the windscreen wiper decal is? Mine are nearer the bottom of the bonnet towards the front bumper, so is this wrong?!.....

Also any ideas if the front holes ARE wrong, how I could fill them in at all?

Thanks :)

Normally, the holes near the bumper are for Tamiya's "racing" chassis. The TT-01 and other "scale" chassis use holes that are usually just in front of the windscreen.

DOH ok so I defo need to drill another set of holes then, thanks for the update! OK think i'll start a new thread on body shell repair! :)

show us a pic of what you've already done

TT01 has provision on the front bumper for posts, just get some off a TGR or TA05 sprue.

TT01 also has 2 available positions for rear holes, choose either straight posts of the Z ones.

chances are you don't need to poke more holes...

Hey Willy, hope you are well! Cheers for the suggestion. So what am I searching for exactly? TA05 body ars? Not too sure what they are actually called or what to look for on ebay

If I were to put the extender ones on the front that came with the kit, they miss the front body shell holes by a matter of about 5-10m that's all

they're just straight posts, with screw going in their base. TA05/EvoIV/Evo5/TB03 & TGR/EvoIII/TB02 use them on the front.

have you checked if your front holes line up with those on the TT01 bumper mount first?

How far out are you?

Can you not get a lighter and heat the stalk and bend it to desired shape, I have done it a few times on random shells - but you will can only get a little play 10mm max!

Hi guys, here is the body shell sitting on with the most extended pegs I can fit from the TT-01 chassis. As you can see its almost there but not quite! When I push the front down, the back end pops up!...

Hi guys, please see attached pic of the longest rear pegs that I have fitted to the front bumper end...

*update it appears I cannot upload any more date onto this thread??

Can you not cut down the front posts and bond a spare bit of styrene onto them and then use some velcro for a 'hidden' front mount?

Will save drilling extra holes!

Errr would not have a clue how to do that!

I dont want to sound rude but have you checked the pictures, manual, box, internet?

As far as i can see from several searches on google images and within the tamiya club show rooms you have clearly made the holes in the wrong place!

The chassis as stock should be built with the stock body posts and the front holes to be made just after the windscreen and the rear holes in the engine cover area.

I know it probaby pains you to do this as you have made a nice clean job of your shell but i would either make new holes in the correct place using the normal straight body mounts or continue to ******* around with various creative options listed above. ;)

From your photo it looks like you have placed the holes in a place that really doesnt suit any option of any body posts. If you melt bend or modify the chassis your only going to encounter issues if you wish to mount other shells as normally the tamiya bodies are pre drilled and fit the normal TT01 body mount positons.

You might be able to use the TA05 posts as suggested as they mount vertically on the front plastic area of the bumper with screws that go up into the bottom of them rather than from the side like the stock TT01 type that mount in the suspension mounts

Also i maybe wrong but i think to fit some of the wide bodies such as yours you have to mount the rear lower arms backwards to give it a longer wider stance, i recall my friend mentioning this to me when he built his Porsche 911 TT01E, as i have a Skyline GT-R 34 on a normal TT01

A tip for the future mark your body mount hole positions when your shell is clear and unpainted, you can use a permanent maker on the protective film. If painted align you wheels up and shine a lamp or light through the shell and mark with a very soft lead pencil. Or place blue tack or double tape on the top of your posts and carefully get it to stick to the inside of your shell for a fairly accurate mark to make a hole.

Hope this helps

thanks

Hi there, yup you are dead right, my mistake for messing up the holes!! Will try alternatives first and if I get no joy I will just drill some more holes where they should have been drilled in the first place!!

just put some posts on the front bumper mounting & it'll line up with the front pair of dimples

4950344584130_2.jpg

although have no idea how boxart got it to sit so low on a TT01

usually the shell will hit the front shocktowers early with plenty of daylight between tyre and wheelarch

to sit that low you'd have to lose the springs from the shocks and let the chassis tub sit flat on the ground

Yup not too bothered about that it'll mainly be a shelf queen with the occasional use I think, I just want to try and avoid drilling the extra holes seeing as they are rather large! Thing is, I can only see hop up ones at the moment, does anyone know where I may be able to get the standard plastic black ones from? Ebay is not good unfortunately!

Try searching RC 1/10 SCALE CAR BODY POSTS on ebay (not allowed to post ebay links) you should get somthing that should fit i think :)

Fitting Tamiya shells made for the proper chassis like your lambo and TT01 Type E is pretty straight forward, drill the correct dimple guides.

Though I had the same trouble when fitting Tamiya body shells made for another Tamiya chassis, i.e. An enzo ferrari(TT01/TB02) to a TA02 chassis. They do not have dimpled guides on where to drill.

So what i now do is buy the ABC stealth body mounts: Here it is in my TT01D Type E with 240Z body and BMW Z4 M coupe body:

A sample video:

It does not only make mounting body post easier, the main bonus of the stealth mount is making your R/C look like the real thing!

And the body mounts are study, i have run my car hard without the body going off the chassis. Just don't hit something, for sure it will fly off.
