I am going for a holiday in Australia and want to take a car or two with me.

Just a quick question, are NiMh batteries ok as carry on luggage? Or, should they be checked in?

If anyone can help, it would be greatly appriciated.

As laptops, mobile phones used to have NiMH packs and most recharable batteries are NiMH dont think there would be a problem.

You'll be fine, I travel to Australia three times a year and usually take a couple of cars with me when I do. I've never had any problems []

my charger is the other problem, it is big, bulky and 110V, will NiMh batteries charge alright from an old style "hot wire" car charger??

Nope, get a NiMH capable with peak detection cut off.

It will charge your NiMhs no problem, but you will have to be even more careful about overcharging. As you aren't racing you don't actually need to be fully charged so you can get away with it if you are careful. Disconnect immediately if you feel the battery starting to warm up.
