The KO Esprit Vantage II is thought of as the best. It's easily the most popular and used by loads of the top drivers, £315 for the combo new though. There's also the Sanwa Super EksES or Futaba 3VCS, both again pricey.

Unless you need all those extra functions and take your racing really serious there is the Sanwa Gemini II which Modelsport sell for £119 for the combo. This is the ideal club racer setup as it has all the functions you need for a fraction of the cost of the others.

It might also be worth looking at the Spectrum system now 2.4Ghz has been okayed by the BRCA.

I've got one but they're not exactly user-friendly. I bought it so I could use the same transmitter with different models, and just switch between the model in it's memory for the relevant ESC settings etc.

It does it, it's just that everytime I get it out I have to hunt down the instruction manual too!! It really is NOT intuative with the menus. However, I haven't had a decent Futaba or Sanwa, so can't compare it directly. But if and when I sell mine, it does put me off enough to want to try a differnt make.

I also use it for my 1/10 touring race car, and its obviously good for that. I like the settings which allow you to have the power fed in smoothly when taking off from a standing start. - good for those frosty mornings on the race track when you're all set for the final (otherwise I have been known to spin out [:I])

I have run KO Vantage 2 in many forms since about 1990.

LOVE them !

I find the menu system great to work, and love all the adjustablity.

Many it just takes some getting used too?

I've been really pleased with the Spektrum gear, although I just use it for bashing and not club racing.

Interesting to hear its been BRCA approved now. Personally I think this is the future. AT the moment it supports 80 channels on the 2.4GHz band, so in theory 80 simultaneous users at a single event before the slots run out. Also nice that if no slots are free it won't let your receiver / transmitter combo activate so hopefully less chance of runaways when some numpty turns on their gear without checkin the peg board ;-).

With TC discount I think the Spektrum DX-3 setup (3 channel) which includes receiver, 3 model memory Tx with lots of adjustments plus 2 servos is about 150 GBP all in. I expect prices to drop as it gets more widely used, and as the system is the same worldwide you can order from the uSA too.

Just reread that and it sounds like a bit of an advert for Spektrum LOL. No connection other than a very happy glitch free user. I believe some other manufacturers have Tx's that can accept a Spektrum plug in module and use the receivers too.

Cheers,

Chris
