Hi, I bought a CEN GX1 from LHS Vulcan Hobbies several years ago in absolutely used and knackered condition (another stupid mistake of mine, I was ripped off in my personal opinion) for 50 quid  , anyway it's a Tamiya TA-01 chassis but glow engined (basically).

I am itching to get the thing going but I need a complete manual. I have the Nitro Handbook from CEN which shows the GX1 chassis but it reads like a RTR manual and is NOT a guide or help for re-building it.

Does anyone know of a proper official or home made manual for the CEN GX1 or a website showing steps to build it etc.?

Cheers,

Alistair G.

Here's some pictures of the skanky twisted used chassis. I've got the suspension and engine and other bits in a bag in my spares boxes somewhere, I'll have to dig them out ;-

Pic's of the restoration will follow if I can get up the enthusiasm to actually fix it. LOL.

Cheers,

Alistair G.

I found some scans and web images on my HDD of exploded views and parts views of the CEN GX1 chassis. The advert is from the 2003 Irvine Catalog, as are the 2 pages of exploded view, the parts layout image I must have found on the web ;-

Still can't find a construction manual though. I may have to make my own and post it here

Well I might as well post pic's and description as I go of the restoration. OK step 1) I suppose is to get hold of the rear differential by taking the rear gearbox rear cover off. Upon examination of the teeth of the diff. there seems to be moderate to more severe wear but with luck might get some life out of it before it strips and becomes FWD only. Next is to remove the 3 off, 2mm dia. x 6mm long self tap countersink head screws from the diff. cover. Then I am presented with the problem of how to get the diff. case to open. I put a larger sized Tamiya stock kit Allen key into the diff. outdrive hole and pulled and it was a bit awkward but hey presto we have the diff. apart.

It's a geared diff. with metal bevel gears. Looks Tamiya-like. Inside the diff. was typical Chinese grease going like toffee like in my old Optima.

Pictures tomorrow. Plus pic's of my CEN Focus bodyshell.

Now I remember why I bought the GX1, the 1:1 Ford Focus WRC '01 has a transverse mounted engine, and I wanted a glow engined car with transverse mounted engine, and Tamiya's chassis' such as TG10MK1, TG10 MK2, TGX, etc have all got longitudinal mounted engines. Plus this was a copy of a Tamiya chassis.

If I could only fit reverse to it I would be over the moon LOL... oh yeah and a 4 stroke OS engine! I wish! Wonder if it can be done?

I just noticed that there appears to be two variants of the GX1, one is 1 speed, mine has 2 speeds, and the exploded views that I have are all of the 1 speed design. Does anyone know of an exploded view of the 2 speed variant ?

As a result I don't even know what the parts numbers are that I have to order for the spur gear etc. ;)

Help?! :D

Hi, I had a look for the manual today but i couldnt find it sorry, The spur gear goes on what colour you already have as the colour means what tooth it is, Seeing as you have a green one which is the same as mine the part number should be 84302-32
