Hey all,

Just wondering if people have particular ways that they suspend their cars off their tyres.

I'm feeling slack in that i don't do this as well as i should and kind of do it haphazardly and wondering how people do this in thier own collections.

thanks

I use upside down margarine tubs painted with body colour. They also double as a parts tub when you need to service the model. If you need to wait for parts you can leave the screws in the tub, and sit the model back ontop of it on the shelf. My larger models (1:8 and 1:5) get 2 large blocks of wood with an old tv stand swivel bolted between them for ease of servicing.

I've seen people use decorated/varnished pieces of wood, some use the cap from the pressure pack can, some even went to the trouble to make scale axle stands. Imagination is your only limit.

My wife buys tons of resealable semi-disposable containers for food - kind of like cheap Tupperware from Wal-Mart. She keeps wondering where they go because she has the lids but not the containers....

I'm a dead man if she ever gets curious enough to look under the Tamiya collection, but they work like a charm. :)

The only car I've bothered with suspending so far is a Wild Willy M38 - three bits of 15mm perspex rod, angled & slotted to fit the chassis ribs ... advantage is they're difficult to see, disadvantages are the time & hassle in making them, and the delicate balancing act to install them ... I wouldn't do it like that again :)

I use the spray can caps from Tamiya paint cans with brown packaging tape to make the caps the same color.

Stacks of Lego blocks works too;

Cut inner tubes from Al foil or Glad wraps;

Sewing threads spools

Look around the house, kitchen, bathroom and let your imagination go to work :)

If you have the bucks, can always buy those tiny jack stands found on ebay

I found a post or article some where possibly here that said to use shelf brackets the type that has the 2 tracks that you screw to the wall and what i did was screw the tracks to a piece of plywood with a leg on the back so it doesent have to be on the wall heres some pics

I use spray can lids Tamiya ones (Usually) when I have finished with the can they work really well and if placed upside down can accomidate a rear diff nicely without unbalancing the car, bigger lids for cars/buggies that are higher of the the ground.

I have raided my son's lego boxes for stands. One time I built a whole lego workshop to suspend my bruiiser chassis. Complete with little dudes and computers. I should have took a pic of it before I got broken apart,.

I like it! What a cool project and idea! :unsure:

I use empty icecream tubs or for road cars the cardboard boxes 7.2v batteries often come in.

I just use whatever is at hand like a iPod box for my Dyna Storm and a roll of packing tape for the Blitzer. Some great ideas have been mentioned above though :unsure:

I bought a load of clear acrylic stands that fitted everything from Clod axles to M-chassis Minis. They are very smart if you want to display rather than purely store. I had some listed on my Trades for ages but ironically recently removed the ad. I still have a few left, and they were only a couple of quid each. If anyone is interested, please feel free to email me rabiedmushroom@btinternet.com and I'll check the remaining ones for a deal.

Hope that's some help! Suzy.

I got some timber cut up at work into blocks. 3" x 3" x 100mm long. I sit our scalers and crawlers on them. We bought two oh those kit selving units and that has our collection on it. When I get back home I will be looking at making something up for the Scania and Ford aeromax to sit on as well. The trailers will get the same treatment. even tho the std tyres are hard as, they still get good flat spots over time. I didnt worry about my tt01 as it has hard drift tyres on it... no flat spots!

I use music casette tapes - even keep the tape in them for onroad cars - holds them just high enough off the shelf - some the tires are still touchng just. I raided the kids toy wooden blocks which my father made for them for the like on Blackfoot and Monster Beetle as needed more height.

As already mentioned I use the spray can lids.

I also use the containers that KFC use for their small coleslaw and potato and gravy or yoghurt containers once the original contents have been consumed. These can be sprayed with the left over body colour or black to help them blend in.

I have stands made of three pieces of thick clear perspex, screwed together with counter sunk holes/screws. Got them in several different sizes also for touring cars or off road stuff.

I even have small ones that can double as " axle stands" so you can use 2 or more for really big trucks.

Ill try and get a picture up as i might have some for sale.

I'd love to see pics of this (and the others) I am hopefully getting a mancave when I move within the next few months and have been mulling about a few ideas for displays.

I turn my car upside down.

I use old jelly tubs , the really small individual ones- one at the front and one at the back .The axle diffs fit into the top 'cup' part of them so its stable. I use a similar idea for my 3 speeds but 2 across the back with a length of wood across them underneath the rear bumper irons- very steady .Sometimes if I have small enough boxes I use them on cars like Holiday Buggy / Wild One which have flat bottom chassis .This way I can leave all of the wheels on :(
