Hi Folks,

Thought you'd like to know the Quick Silver touring car series starts again this Saturday (25/09/10) at Hinckley Radio Control Car Club (HRCCC). For those you don't know about the Quick Silver series, let me take the opportunity to fill you in...

What is the Quick Sliver TC Series?

Quick Silver is an entry level 1/10 scale electric touring car class catering for all abilities. The class is intended to be a low cost and fun route into R/C racing due to the 'race what you brung' philosophy and 27T sealed silver can motor (e.g. Mabuchi RS540SH as found in Tamiya kits)) requirement. HRCCC also have 2 club cars available for use - free of charge.

What is HRCCC like?

You can expect a warm welcome at HRCCC - our aim to make your Saturday afternoon's racing enjoyable. The club facilities are excellent with our large indoor track, pitting space, refreshments and model shop support.

When do we race?

We race Saturday afternoons - booking-in opens from 12:00 with racing starting at 13:00. We aim to finish racing and have the track packed away by approx. 18:00. The format of the meeting is 3 qualifying rounds and a 2-leg final.

If you'd like to know more - send me a PM :)

Cheers

James (Jammer)

Hi Dan,

I'll be popping by at the begining of the meeting so I'll look out for you...unforunately I can't race this week B)

You'd be more than welcome to race with your M03 in the Quick Silver class - we had some guys running them last season - they performed really well amongst the TCs and were very entertaining. I'll be having a go soon with my Xevo conversion...

Cheers for the post...

OK - I'm ready to race!! After a weekend of prep I've got a few cars raceworthy and ready to hit the track ( and the barriers, and the other cars .... and quite possibly the walls ;) ). Three cars should be enough for me to be able to finish the meeting with a working car still - shouldn't it? I'm really looking forward to getting back to the racing this coming weekend. It seems like FOREVER since last I had a chance to race. Hope to see as many Quicksilver racers as possible in Hinckley this Saturday afternoon. See YOU there!! Richard

Ah, seemed I missed you last Saturday James.... was you the guy setting up Neil Overson's son with the club Ta-01 car? We were pitting with Neil & Charlie Ware :)

I finished 2nd in 13.5 class but the first place guy was leagues ahead! Should hopefully be there for next week too, so I've got to do some serious thinking on my car's set-up. Would be good to see your Xevo Mini if you are racing then?

Hi Dan,

Yes that was me - sorry I missed you. Sounds like you got a good result - hope you enjoyed yourself? I'll be there this week for sure, hopefully with the Xevo running - but if not I'll bring it with me so you can have a look.

Catch you later...

Hi im new to the forum and rc cars in general, very interested in some beginner class racing so if i get my new car built by Saturday I might come and have a look. It's the tt01e merc I've got hopefully on it's way. Hoping it'll be a little bit able to keep up with the others!

Hi Mate, Welcome. Great to see you here as a newcomer. Good luck getting the Merc built in time for the weekend but even if you don't finish it you'll be more than welcome to come along for a look at our racing, meet up with myself and James (Jammer) and some of the other names you might have seen bouncing around on the forum. If you fancy trying the racing without risking your new built car then we have a couple of club owned "club cars" available for people to book to have a go at racing. These are both TT-01E chassis cars, fully set up, batteries charged and ready to race at no extra cost other than the clubs standard race fee. If you're interested just let us know and we'll reserve you one.

Hopefully see you Saturday - Racers start arriving from about 11am to set up and build the track. Check in from about 12 with the racing starting at 1pm. We aim to be finished and out of the hall about 6pm. If you need any more info or directions just give us shout.

Hi there WB...

As Richard said, hopefully we'll see you on Saturday. If I were you, I'd have a go with one of the free to use club cars first...you can get the feel for it and it'll give you more time to build the Benz.

Cheers

Hi Baz, The club cars are fully prepared and ready to race. Radio gear, batteries, even the charger are provided by the club. The idea being that anyone can come and have a go at racing without needing to own any RC kit of their own. I have one of the club cars here with me right now as I've been baby-sitting it over the summer season. It's unlikely it's been allocated to anyone else to race as the club chairman doesn't know when I'm bringing it back!! It ready to go though should you want it.

The club runs a mixture of classes indoors for the winter - from Mardave v12s up to super duper fangled brushless touring car race missiles. The Quicksilver class though is the one for the best fun!

Hi Baz, Was good to see you and your daughter. Glad you enjoyed the club, the racing, and the use of the club car. Can't be long before your daughter will be wanting to get out on track too. I see another modelshop purchase coming for you. I hope you've stocked up on pink paint!! Looking forward to seeing you for some more racing in the coming weeks. Having watched you race I fear my A final placing is in some real danger of being lost to you.

Good news for future club car borrowers, after some feedback from Baz and a quick poll among a few club members I've ordered a new 2.4Ghz stick radio gear for the club car to replace the steering wheel type system Baz used. It should hopefully be fitted and ready to be borrowed to race with this coming weekend. If anybody else wants to do like Baz and have at go at racing with us at the Hinckley club then give us a shout. We're always happy to see new racers however bad you think your driving may be.

Richard.

perhaps the buggy racing next year for my little one, if she can get her lunchie round in under a minute i might let her pick a new ride! and yeah it will probably end up pink i guess!

i've just finished my TT01 - too pretty to race alas! did make a couple of mistakes with the decalling but i prefer to call it personal touches (bodges) :D

thanks again guys for the rescued shell that will though, its definitely not too pretty lol

photo.jpg

so roll on the next time i can get down there!

i've got my pit equipment all ready, basically its a sandwich, choccy biscuits and a packet or two of cheese n onion.

ok i'm probably gonna buy some tyre additive, and a set of the wheels and tyres in the club shop, might get a fancy dan charger as i can see the need for one. anything else I could really use apart from basic tools? havent really got any spares to swap out. have got the spur and pinion you guys recommended winging its way to me but apart from that its totally bog standard, ideal for a bog standard driver lol.

Hey that looks great... I don't blame you for not running it, though it would look cool going around with its lights on :D

Was good to say hi, I was watching your (borrowed) car in your last final - it looked like you'd really got the hang of it, keeping it cool & steady & carving some nice racing lines. I think the 'silver can' is a great class & ideal for the beginner as it gets you to learn the basics of driving without being too fast, meaning that there is less likelyhood of breakages when the inevitable mistakes occur - Also with everyone running the same motors there's no temptation to get the latest & fastest equipment, so it keeps it reasonably cheap!

Hinckley is lucky in that there is a wide spread of abilities, so there's always someone to have abit of rivalry/banter with, so it keeps the racing friendly & relaxed. Where I normally race (Kettering) there are a couple of beginners - but then theres a big gap to the top drivers with no-one in-between, which can be off-putting for newcomers I think?

Anyway have fun... thats the main thing!

P.S; James it was good to meet you too & chat Vintage R/C.... i'm going to be missing it this coming Saturday but myself & my mate want to try & get the 8 rounds in to count for the series :)

Hi Baz,

The beamer looks cool...

Just some basic tools should do fine. If you get a new charger, it would be a good idea to get one that can charge LiPo and LiFE cells as well as NiMH as you may up-grade cells at some point. There's plenty of choice for chargers on Ebay for less than £20 from HK - something like an iMAX B6 should be just the job - it would be useful to get one with a mains adapter.

I've not broken anything on my TT01, but I know the front knuckle arms can break. A cheap set of 50mm long alloy bodied oil shocks (such as Yeah Racing or 3-Racing - approx £10 a set) would also be useful, but not essential. You really don't need to chuck money at this class - a standard TT01 with the appropriate gear ratio is all you need.

Looking forward to racing with you again soon...

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the nice comments about HRCCC, we very much appreciate the support.

Yes it was good to meet up last Saturday - your RC10 was great - seeing it reminded me of my teens reading copies of Radio Race Car. I there this week, but not the next - so I'll no doubt catch up with you and your mate in a few weeks time.

Cheers

Just a quick update on the FREE* to borrow Hinckley RCCC club cars. Club car 2's radio gear has now been upgraded and is now fitted with an Etronix Pulse EX3GPRO 2.4Ghz with a sticks type controller. The car is a Tamiya TT-01E. It's ready to race and looking good...!!

If anyone else fancies doing what Baz did last weekend and coming over to Hinckley for a Saturday afternoon of fun racing then it would be great to see you.

Hi Baz, Yep - business as usual at the racing tomorrow. Have you got your own car ready to race now? Unfortunately spare tables are a bit sparse despite it being a school so I'll bring a spare folding camping table I've got that you are welcome to borrow. Have you thought of returning the dwarf table to Argos, haven't they got a 16 day exchange promise?

Thanks in advance for the table, will get myself a proper one after tomorrow. I'll keep the other one for my dwarf to do some colouring on i think. Carwise yep I'm all sorted. Might buy a set of those sweep wheels tomorrow tho as the ones I've bought online look a bit small

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic afternoons racing today. Turn out was amazing - over twenty racers for the Quicksilver class, many racing Tamiyas. The success of this class meant we had three heats worth of Quicksilver racers and A, B & C finals for the first time. Quicksilver today was the best attended race class at the club. The racing was very close again with the border line qualifying time between the A and B finals being just a fraction of a second. Our club meeting results are available to review online here HRCCC RESULTS though sometimes it can take a few days for them to be updated.

Already looking forward to the racing next week. We're all having great fun and enjoying the good simple racing. If it sounds good to you and you fancy giving racing with us a try remember you don't even need to use your own car, club owned cars are available on loan. See you there next Saturday!

As a latecomer to racing and rc'ing in general I'd heartily recommend hinckleys quicksilver series to anyone toying with the idea of giving racing a go. The facilities and club are excellent and the friendly support, advice and encouragment from James, Richard and others are even better. Great work guys, can't wait to get down again :)
