I keep hearing how bad the out the box tyres are and didn't think anything of it...

But I took out my new Slash yesterday and on wet grass it just span and span, I'm loosing so much traction on different surfaces, its a waste of battery power and massively reduces my run times....

I've only got 3 types of surface locally where I can run my cars..

1. Really big concrete area (at work)

2. Huge Park, all grass wet is the biggest problem

3. Some gravel paths...

look forward to hearing your opinions, ideally its tyres for the grass I want the most...

I'll just run the originals on the concrete until they are bald, then get new ones......

proline dirt hawgs for that mix, although grass is always going to be a problem.

i run dirt hawg's on my 4wd manta ray and it's good on most surfaces.

a good deep spike is the best for grass, but will burn off fast on other surfaces.

I've got 2.2 Proline Gladiators on mine. Traction is awesome on pretty much any surface. Plus they are very durable. I have had little-to-no wear on mine so far, and that's with motors like 5.5t, and 6900kv.

Simple answer chap, yes :)

I thought you might say that... its just me being tight, £14 wheels + £12 INSERTS + £18 Tyres loads of money (when you haven't got it)

Any ideas for cheapest options...?

I have some Switch tyres (with inserts) that you could have for £15 posted, part worn but not much use.

You just need 2.2 truck wheels for them then. Which I may have will look later.

The more I get in to this hobby, I'm realising I probably can't afford it and the family....

stock tyres aren't that grippy but will last forever, even if you run on tarmac roads

Prolines, JConcepts etc make fancy race rubber for SCTs but any treadpattern like micropin or bowties

may last only 1 raceday on a buggy track, or bald in 1 run if bashed on tarmac.

Don't forget there's also ample suspension tuning you can do; out of the box they're setup with soft springs/oil and high clearance.

If you don't need all that clearance, jack down the car (spacers inside shocks) and thicken the oil... handles heaps better.

As for cheap-2-run tyres... try some BF Goodridge pattern stockers off a 4X4 RTR perhaps.

They bite better and last just long, plenty are offloaded cheap from fleaBay chopshops.

Stock kit tyres off a HPI Blitz are pretty good & cheap too.

Proline's beadlock rims may help if you replace tyres often; but they're like 2-3X in price to buy  heavy too.

I prefer stock tyre width; putting wide sticky rubber on SCT is no-fun - they're MEANT to be overpowered outta control rides

I'll probably get a hole of some Proline Trenchers and the 6 pin wheels for my 4x4, but that's nothing to do with lack of grip from the stockers, but just because the after market ones look cooler
