Noob To Rc And To Trucks

Hi all,

I say noob, but I was in to RC planes and stuff about 15 years ago. Had one or two basic cars as a teen, but i'm back into the hobby again now and find a lot has changed with the times. That was to be expected of course.

Now, I have built a Knight Hauler, very happy with it and using an Acoms Techniplus 4 TX. No problems, works fine. Well, I had one or two small issues, but found answers/ideas from trawling through this great forum. Clearly there are some very skilled and experienced enthusiasts on here who are very willing to help. I am loving this forum already, totally immersed in this stuff now and have a list of things I want to do with my truck. Just wish I had more spare cash and time to dedicate to it.

Anyway, my query is this. I remember years ago being able to open up a TX and add on a shoulder switch or two on the outer casing and there being a simple extra plug on the main board ( I had Multiplex gear back then). So you could quickly and easily add one or two channels to a TX in little time. So, I opened my 4 channel TX with the hope of adding two extra shoulder switches for some planned extras on my Knight Hauler. For one, I have ordered those Carson flashing amber beacons that some with an RC switch, so certainly wanted an extra switch for that. I am happy enough with this radio gear and don't really want to cast it aside for a native 6 channel. So the problem is, when I opened this thing, there are no extra ports or sockets to simply plug in an extra switch. Does anyone know if it can be done, assuming that you may have to solder the switches to certain points on the board.

I have however, found a nice trick on this forum, to add a little shoulder button to cheat the trim pot into thinking it's at end point, so you can just cycle through the lighting mode at the touch of a button. Nice.

Have a search on google mate. There is a post somewhere on the net to add extra channels to futaba radios. All futaba 4channel sets have a 7 channel chip inside.
